Before, after and a big question! 250-180

i would never stop doing cardio nor would i stop with situps you need to tone your stomach.
weight work will only effect things like pecs and biceps it wont address the main issue your stomach so my advise to you is keep eating well add more cardio and keep up the good work
I agree with Jynus. This is completely and 100% wrong advice. Please do not follow this.

Weight work - if properly done - is for your whole body. Read the stickies. I promise there's awesome information there to get you started on doing PROPER weight and body resistance work.

Hi again
completely and utterly false. You can't spot reduce. So doing situps will do absolutely nothing towards making your abs more toned. weight work can very well address things like your stomach due to the insane caloric burn you get from doing the big resistance exercises like squats, lunges, deadlifts, etc.

that being said, great job to the OP. Add in some resistance training to reshape yourself a bit now and you're golden. :D

I wasnt talking about spot training! What I said was, use cadio to burn the fat away, use the ab workout to tone the muscle, so that once the fat is gone you will have nice definition.

What you said was:

situps you need to tone your stomach.
False. First of all you can't "tone" your stomach. Either you're building and strengthening your ab and core muscles or you're not. Situps target one very specific set of mid-ab muscles and do nothing for your lower core, upper core, back, or obliques. Additionally, situps are very hard on your back muscles and your pelvic girdle, if you're a woman. Situps are the worst possible exercise you can do for building and strengthening your core.

weight work will only effect things like pecs and biceps i
False. So you're saying squats, military presses, bench presses, rows, lat pulls, deadlifts, lunges, and all those other "weight work" exercises will only work pecs and biceps? Totally, completely and 100% false. And telling someone that things like squats, presses, and deadlifts won't address your stomach? Also false. A properly executed squat works your core - both front and back - as well as your legs and butt.

add more cardio
Cardio does nothing to help maintain lean muscle mass when you're losing weight. Telling someone to forego weights in favor of "more cardio" is a stupid, stupid, stupid piece of advice. Adding more weight work will maintain more muscle, which will increase metabolism in the long run, which will cause more overall weight loss.

So yes, Jynus was right. Your advice was really bad. Cardio and ab workouts and no additional weight work is quite possibly the most inefficient way to burn fat and build a strong core that anyone could advise.

i appologise if it sounded like i was saying to forgo weights but i was trying to state that not doing any cardio is the stupidest thing a person can do from both a weight loss and a fitness stand point. abosolutly you should do weights but you need to do them in conjunction with a good cardio workout and diet plan
the main thing i was trying to say in my first post is that this statement
Running isn't going to do a damn thing for you and neither are crunches.
is bad advice.
im sorry that i didnt take the time to think more about the way my post might have come across to other people so for the last time im sorry about the confussion.

ps When I stated weight work will only effect things like pecs and biceps, I should have put, ect, but forgot. I appologise for that, I didnt want to have to type out -
pectorallis, deltoids, biceps brachii triceps brachii, wrist flexors, wrist extensors, brachiallis, rectus abdominis, obliques, quadriceps, rotator cuff, trapezius, latissimus dori, infraspinatus, lower back, glutes, hamstrings, soleus, gastrocnemius and, thats all the ones i know so if i missed any ect.

My main axe is a Mexi strat, and the previous owner had swopped out the pups, and put in ones from an '83 stratocaster. It's great for some killer David Gilmour/Pink Floyd/ and Hendrix/SRV tones :)

Just curious, what kind of Amplification do you use, and do you own any effects?

Oh very nice. Ive been so conflicted about my next guitar investment. Its either going to be a better amp or FAR better Acoustic (Thats what im leaning more toward), and then after that its a toss up between a Strat, Les Paul, Jazzmaster or Tele... I think its more than likley going to be a Fender though. I love my gibson and it is a truly amazing ax, but it lacks those really beautiful and luscious clean tones that you can get from some of the Fenders. BUT the SG has gone far and above my expectations. I absolutly adore it.

Anywho Im rocking a little Vox Valvtronix VT15 15 Watt Amp. Its a GREAT little amp but Im hoping to gig sometime in the future and I want something with a bit more umph. Plus it is far too digital to me. Its a tube/solid hybrid, but reguardless, it still sounds too computerized. I REALLY want that raw sound of the guitar coming through, not a computer generated sound. but even so, it sounds truly amazing for a 300 dollar amp and suits me perfectly for just rocking around the house. Its also modular so I have nearly endless effects and tones, but again, they are mostly digital. But for playing for almost a full year now, im not expecting the best out there, especially on a college student's salary :D

Back a bit more on topic, So it looks like I need to do a lot of training involving my own body weight, ie. push ups, pull ups, lunges ect. I ran out and grabbed an ""(and my first Led Zeppelin CD, BOUT TIME!!!) at the recommendation of a friend, plus no holes in my wall :D. Is this a good place to start? Ive managed to do 2 whole pull ups, which is 2 more than Ive ever done before!! Ha ha

Weights, weights, and oh yeah... MORE weights. Cardio is awesome I do it every day but also do squats (your whole body will feel it), military presses (best thing ever for your chest and triceps), and other assorted lifts that work multiple muscle groups. High rep is bla you want to lift heavy and do small rep numbers. You will see a change in a month or so and then keep trying to up your lift weights as you can. A pair of multi-weight adjustable dumbbells is an awesome investment. You can do most things with them and tuck them under your bed to save space when you are not using them.

Sit ups are great but try doing them while holding a 12lb medicine ball for new meaning of the word pain. Or tuck an exercise/yoga ball (not sure what size for you I have a 65cm one and am 5'8) between your ankles and lay flat on your back and lift and lower your legs holding them straight using your thighs and lower abs to control holding the ball between your ankles as you do this slowly for 20 reps to start. I promise the next day you will think a horse kicked you in the gut.

Also clean up your diet if you have not. This will go a long way to all your goals. What you have is not loose skin that I can tell just more fat that needs to be told to take a hike and get off your stomach. Sadly it can take a while they do not call it stubborn belly fat for nothing.

That said you look amazing. Really inspiring seeing your change so far you look very handsome!

Oh, be very careful with back exercises taken to the next level (w/medicine balls, weights, etc.) Make sure you've been doing core strengthening exercises for at least a month before playing with thera balls... we don't want brken backs :D
