beer at night

Heys guys!
I was wondering what I could eat/do during the day so I can have a few beers at night without gaining weight/having a negative effect on me? As far as I know, or rather what I was told by various people, is, that beer has lots and lots of calories.. so would it be good to go for like veggies only maybe?
Thank you!

Veggies all day and beer at night? I don't think that's your answer :) Can you cut down on the beer? Maybe have one a night after you get home from work or something? I don't think one at night would be too bad. Do you drink light beer?

Actually I wouldn't drink beer every night... just like on the weekends, hanging out with friends and stuff. I'm a social drinker!

lite beers have about half the calories. Mich ultra has the least, I think, but not much less than Miller or Bud lite. I would just figure out how many calories are in your drink of choice and then eat a little less for dinner to compromise. Plus, keep in mind that beer is mostly carbs (maybe all carbs, I don't drink it, so I don't know.) so its carbs you need to remove from your diet.

You cannot "bank" calories for later. IE- not eat now so you can eat a lot later. Your body doesn't like that at all. Beer is carbs. Lots of carbs at night... usually means stored fat.

I know it's not the answer you want :D As some people mentioned above, cut down to one or two beers on the weekend. Be sure you are eating very well and working out regularly through out the week. Also try and change to a light beer.

Ok I see.. thanks for your suggestions and explanations. It's not that I can't live without beer.. I was wondering if there is a diet or so I could go for that would "neutralize" the unwated effects that beer causes- but apparently things like this wouldn't work ;)

If someone could develop that diet, they would become extremely wealthy!!

mr_afk, in moderation, a couple of beers on a Saturday night isn't going to reverse all your good work, just a tiny percentage of it - I say go for it....give yourself something to look forward to.

If you really want to cut beer out of your diet though, do what some people have suggested and switch to a 'lite' brand - they have no flavour so, you'd find it easier not to drink them! ;)

from what i know liquor has the same calories as beer just no carbs. a shot of vodka is said to have about 100 cals. also only the non flavored liquors are carb free.

I think what JMO means is that drinking shots makes you RELAX ;) faster so you need to drink less which means less calories. That is definitely true.

I don't think that's true. I think alcohol itself is a type of carbohydrate. I'd have to look it up to be sure, but I'm pretty sure that normal carbs have 4 calories per gram, and alchol carbs have 7 calories per gram.

I just meant that a shot gives you a buzz more quickly than a beer, so he would be drinking less overall. Plus, they're more expensive so he'd have to quit sooner! :p

It's not so much about getting drunk for me. It's mostly about having a good time with my friends so flavour is more important than the alc %. I think I'll just pay attention.. and don't go over the top.. too often.
