Been looking for a weight loss forum

And here I am!

My name is Preacher... ok, it's not "really" Preacher, but since my lovely wife and my friends all call me Preacher, it might as well be.

I used to be athletic, was military and worked out constantly. Since I got out, the last 10 years have been spent behind a desk gaining weight. My lifestyle and my eating habits were out of control.

I was at a big biker party at the end of last month and when my buddies pictures started rolling in, I was in a bunch of them and in every one, my belly was the largest object in the shot. Holy crud...

On July 7th, I got on our bathroom scale and broke it. No joke. The weight limit on the scale was 300 and when I stepped on, it went past the marker and the case cracked. Near as I can tell I weighed in at about 303.

When my wife woke up, I told her what happened and asked for her advice. See, she was once at 270 at worked her way down to a slim and trim 140 and stayed healthy and happy at that weight ever since (20+ years!)

I started that day on a pretty radical diet and exercise program. It was really hard for the first week but has been getting easier and easier. I am down 25 pounds now and feeling better than I have in a long, long time. I am shooting for 200lbs as my target and for the first time, it seems like a goal I can reach.

My biggest help and my biggest fan is my wife who is supporting me 110%. She gets sick of listening to me talk calories sometimes, but she just smiles and encourages me anyway.

I know I am bound to hit plateaus and wanted a forum where I could get suggestions to help me overcome those roadblocks. Seems like a nice crowd here.

You've certainly come to the right place, and welcome to the best damn weight loss forum spanning the universe !!

It's nice to have a hardcore dieter here with me. If you're like me (and I sense you are) you gotta hit it hard and hit it seriously or it won't get done. Some people have to do their weight loss this way to ensure they don't fail.

I'm sure we'll have some bs to exchange here after you settle in and get know the place. Get ready for all the Hotties on here to greet ya ;) You might wanna have the wifey leave the room when your in here :)

Peace Bro.

If I can take it off and keep it off like you are doing, I'll be a happy man. It has only been a couple of weeks for me, but I am seeing concrete results and that really helps keep me motivated.

As for the ladies, no worries there, I can be as friendly as the next guy but I am very happy at home. The only way my wife could be better would be if she were twins..;)

Hey Preacher,
Welcome to the forum! Good for you for taking control, and CONGRATULATIONS to your wife for losing and maintaining her loss! That is fabulous to have her support!

Welcome to the forum Preacher! :D Congrats on your loss so far! YOu're doing great! You are very lucky to have such a supporter in your wife! And congrats to her on her success in losing and keeping it off! Her knowledge will be of great use to you at ALL stages of this "trip" :D Keep your focus and on your plan - you're doing beautifully and I know you will continue to do so :D

Took a walk on Sunday to a "greenway" we have near here. the Greenway is 10-12 mile long path specifically designed for walking, running, even cycling and it wends its way through out the northern part of town, mostly following a couple of local rivers.

I have never been down there so I decided I would take my off-day walk there and see what the fuss was all about. It was nice... weather wasn't too bad and the path seemed to go on forever. I was only going to walk for a little while, but before i knew it, I was way out there.

I came to a bit that ran under the freeway and it was flooded... wait, freeway? The nearest freeway was about 2 miles from my house!

I ended up with about 5 miles under my belt and a sore ankle for the day...

All that walking and only weighed in at a pound lower than the day before... bummer.

Oh well, that is one less pound I have to worry about ;)

My walk this morning was a bit shorter than usual because the hills were giving my ankle fits... Guess I need to find a better off-day exercise.

Got up this morning and weighed in at 274... that's 29 lbs down the drain! I have gotten so I live for my morning weigh-in....

I have a Doctor's appointment on Friday for a physical and I can't wait to see if my new lifestyle has helped to bring my triglycerides down.

I have been fighting high triglycerides for almost 2 years. My doctor has prescribed every drug on the market and so far, each one I have tried has RAISED my levels. My Doctor is baffled and suggested that the only thing we haven't tried is losing weight. I am on Omacor right now and I am hoping that the pills, in conjunction with the weight loss, will show an improvement. I would hate to get thin and healthy and drop dead from a heart attack anyway :) :)

Howdy Preacher! Welcome to the forum & congratulations on your weight loss so far!!!

Your wife sounds inspirational! I would love to hear how she lost it and any issues she may have had maintaining those 20+ years!!! It is very encouraging to hear stories from people who have maintained for so long!

My wife did what she is encouraging me to do, changed the way she treats food.

She tends to graze all day long and never eats dinner. She'll have a good breakfast, a big lunch and small snacks all day (a couple of chips here, a cracker or two there) Even her meals in the morning and at noon tend to be healthy meals, with an occasional cheese burger to break up the monotony. It helps that she likes fish (yech)

She likes the saying "Eat to live, not live to eat" and lives it. She doesn't deprive herself, but she has a hell of a lot more self-control than I do (I am getting better...) and can stop at 3 potato chips or one small piece of chocolate, a single bite of ice cream etc.

Thanks Preacher! That is exactly what I am doing to LOSE the weight so that is what I will still be doing when I get to MAINTAIN!

By the way...do you have a chip addiction? If so, have you tried the baked chips that are all over now? Depending on the type, you can have about 15-20 chips for about 110 cals! That's pretty stinkin' good! And I LOVE the baked chips! I like them better than regular chips.

Nah, no chip addiction here... just an inability to say "Enough!" I love to eat!

I have to teach myself that "More" does not equal "Better"

Welcome to the forum Preacher. You will succeed in your weight loss goal. Your wife on your side is the bonus. She's been there, done that and bought the t-shirt to prove it. We are all here for you and will ride the tide with you just to bring you that much closer to your goal. Have a great day. :D

I hit the 30 pound mark today. Woke up, did a couple of miles and I feel great!

Chopped up some more cantalope.. I love that stuff and it is only 60 calories per cup.

Dinner last night I had a tuna-fish sammich... that's right, with bread and everything! first bread in a month....

Starkist albacore tuna (Whole, not processed) packed in water is 175 calories per can.
Lite Miracle Whip is only 20 calories per tblspn.
Add in some red peppers, green peppers, cucumber, garlic, onion and a dab of mustard and slap it on two slices of reduced calorie (40 per slice) whole wheat and you have tasty sandwich that is almost guilt free. Add a bowl of soup and you have a 330 calorie dinner.

Tonight is taco salad... 97% lean ground beef, Old El Paso taco sauce (jar, not dry, it is half the calories) on a mixed salad.

MMMMMMMMMMMMmm....add a couple TBSP of FF sour cream on that taco salad and it's a done deal!!!! VERY low in cals. YUUUUUUUMMMMMYYYYY!

I know what you mean! I think that when we all agree on a team name we should make our own thread so it will be easier to check up on everyone!

Sounds like a good idea..... I tried finding diaries for everyone so I could "bookmark" them, but a seperate thread would be best.
