BB Bench press vs BB biceps curl

Question: how much should you be able to lift with BB bench press compared to BB biceps curl ?

because with both exercises i can lift about the same... i think i'm doing ok with my biceps, but my chest is really extremely weak :s
talking about 40 kg here for the chest; so that'd be about 90 lbs... while i lift about up to 80 with biceps...
i have no idea how this comes, perhaps i've been overtraining chest all the time and didn't make much gains because of that, while my biceps could handle the training twice a week, i dunno >.<
hopefully i'll start noticing difference with my new training scedule... and phaps i should do those dips for a change... guess i'll just have to live with it otherwise :x

A healthy male should be able to bench press his body weight for 12 reps or equivlently do 50 non-stop pushups. You also should be able to do 15-20 pull ups, which is a better measure of pulling stength than curls. You are correct you should be able to bench press way more than you can curl. The bench press is a compound movement (involves 2 joints: elbow and shoulder), while the curl is an isolation movement (involves only 1 joint: elbow).

dswithers - id say those stats would belong to an above average male! your statement 'healthy male' makes it sound easy like everyoje should be able to do that much!

anyway..yeah u shud be ablt to do much more on bench - keep training!
