Barnold's Diary - Project Mediterranean 2007

Week 8: -0.3 kg

Slightly disappointed regarding the amount lost. Weight lost is weight lost, yes, but I still think it might be time to do something new to make sure the good trend continues.

I'm going to have to control my eating at home better. Best solution: eat when the kids do. They're eating five times a day, regular as clockwork - why not do the same? And NO sampling the ingredients while cooking! OK, you have to taste the food when you're e.g. making stew, soup or gravy, but there's a difference between tasting and hogging.

Gym days this week will be Thursday and Friday. Let's see if I can manage to go nordic walking at least once during the week as well.

Hi Barnold! Hey we got the same ticker!

Sometimes weight is not accurate measurement i heard. Could be building up of muscle?

Hope u hv fun with eating 5 small meals a day.... it takes a while getting use to this.:)

Hi there!

I suppose my muscle mass could have increased a little, but I doubt it can have increased very much after just a couple of gym sessions. The possible increase could be tens of grams, not hundreds...I think. I've no data to back this claim up, though. I read somewhere that sore muscles store fluids, but then again I'm not sore from the workout anymore. Would be worrying if I was...

Sorry you're dissapointed with your loss but, like you said, a loss is a loss and that's all you should think about!! I wouldn't worry about it if I were you! At least you're losing!! That's really great! :)

Week 9: -0.6 kg

Pretty good week - managed to lose a decent amount of weight, even though I've definitely been eating more than during previous weeks. On the other hand, I've been exercising more. I just have to remind myself to take it slow. I think this is definitely the right way to lose weight - eat properly, exercise regularly, don't try to lose it all at once. Perhaps this time I will be able to stay at my target weight and not bounce back.

See, I'm already so confident about reaching my target weight I'm talking about it as if it has already happened. Not by a long shot, man - keep working! One added incentive: our trip to the Mediterranean next summer is definitely a go.

Yep, it's simple. So simple I reckon many people think "Hang on, there's got to be a catch somewhere..." and try something else. What I've also learned over these past couple of months is that the second of those four words is perhaps the most important. "Properly" does not necessarily mean "less". Starving yourself just leads to losing weight the wrong way, i.e. from the muscles.

Yet another analogy springs to mind: losing weight is like a long-distance race. If you go all out right from the start (as in trying to change your lifestyle too drastically) you'll get tired too soon and never reach the goal. But if you start slow and increase the effort little by little (as in keep making small changes regarding your eating and exercising) the going is much easier.

Mediterranean sounds exciting! *can only think of the fooooooooood there!!!*

sometimes more doesn't do much harm. I had 5 huge dinners outside last week (sun had 2 dinners!) but the weight didn't go up. Ha maybe eat more lose more?:D

Week 10: -0.5 kg

Has it been ten weeks already? Doesn't seem so long for some reason. Time flies when you're having fun, eh? :D Have to be careful at the gym tomorrow, I might have a slight cold. I've gotten used to weight training again, the muscle aches are much more bearable and don't last for very long, although I'm already using more resistance. And the end of the week is going to be a real willpower test - the baby's namegiving ceremony is on Saturday, and we're making all sorts of delicacies for that. OK, on the other hand the couple of days before the ceremony are going to be hectic (a real thorough housecleaning, mainly)... Note to self: should go to bed sooner. During the working week I'm getting maybe 6-6.5 hours of sleep, and that's not enough in the long run.

Less than 20 kilos to go!
