bad technique?

whenever I do bent-over barbell rows i can never feel it hitting my back, and I end up failing the reps whenever my arms get tired. should I feel the strain on my back whilst I am lifting? the only strain I seem to feel is due to leaning forward and holding that position against the weight of the bar.

also, with bent-over dumbell flys, it feels like the exercise is hitting my shoulders rather than my back. Whenever I try them lying down instead, I cant seem to lift even a lighter weight to a decent height because of the angle that I'm at.

Well as far as bent over rows go, I'd guess we'd have to see your form to see if you are performing the lift correctly. Are you using a pronated or supinated grip? Are you pulling the weight into your stomach area ? The bent over dumbbell flyes ( I am assuming you mean bent over lateral raises) are geared to hit the posterior deltiods and the traps somewhat. They are not a back exercise, although your traps are part of your back.
