I had a good day food and exercise wise.
But first..i just had some thoughts today.
I have a lot of willpower when it comes to food at home. I can make something that excites me (also I'm not that picky...I -have- been eating egg whites + cheddar cheese for many days now...and I still look forward to it everyday!! lol ). I love grocery shopping, I love fresh fruits and vegetables.
The second I go outside though, the temptations come from all sides. My friends were at the beach today after work - but I knew that if I went after work - I would A) not have time to exercise B) eat something bad with them and C) i needed to work hard for this weekends festivities.
I decided not to go, but it feels kind of bad because I am missing out on a part of summer. Diets + exercise need a lot of time as I'm sure most of you know. It almost comes down to being social vs. being healthy. That's just how I feel. I know a lot of people here also have young ones to take care of so I really admire that you can fit in the time to focus on a diet with such a tight schedule.
Food for the Day w/ commentary just because I have some pictures today
Almond milk + cereal + banana ~ ~300 cals - picture attached! I made 2...just wanted to show how little cereal is actually in it. It's just what is floating in the first picture. It's kashi crunch - which is awesome, but it's got a bit of sugar in it
. I also LOVE almond milk - it's only 70 cals a cup vs ~110 for milk and I think it just tastes better
cucumber/carrots + hummus, blackberries + handful of seeds/raisins ~350 cals - I was quite busy at work and didn't get to eat till about 3PM and I wasn't starving yet surprisingly. When I eat, I don't really count vegetables as part of my daily calories unless its cooked in oil. It fills me up and gives me nutrition which I think is key to my body not being hungry. There's more to food than just calories! These blackberries were plump and sweet. Awesome!
1 Orange ~100 cals I always try to eat a light carb snack 30min-1h before working out. I was tempted to eat more blackberries but I chose this for variety sake.
50 min bike - said 300 calories burned
4 Egg whites + cheddar cheese + sauteed mushrooms/shallot, cucumbers+carrots ~500 cals
I absolutely love egg whites! It's a dieter's (is that a word??) dream - 4 egg whites = 68 calories!! That's a really good, fluffy, satisfying, low calorie component to cheese or meat or vegetables. It's much more nutritious than bread or what else you would compliment cheese or cooked meat with! I sauteed some mushrooms and shallots to go with the cheese omelette as well - i tried to put them inside the omelette but it was too much. And a helping of vegetables to fill me up. I do use regular olive oil when cooking so I guess there is some added fat. I don't use a lot though!
As I said I don't really count vegetables as my daily calories because I just think its pretty much negligible in the grand scheme of things. They are low calorie, full of nutrition and full of fibre to help me feel full. So this would be just egg whites (68 cals) + cheese (200 cals) + 2 tsp oil (60 cals) = only 330 cals in my mind but I just bump it up a bit to allow for the vegetables and just to be on the safe side.
TOTAL for the day - 1250 cals + 50 min biking
I think this was as perfect as it gets for me for a diet day.
It's on the low end, but I feel good. I never felt hungry today which was pretty amazing considering I didn't get to eat lunch until about 3.
I feel great after biking and showering. I want to walk my dog but I am a mosquito magnet at this hour...time to be lazy! And most importantly - my feet feel great right now. Even after biking, I feel no discomfort which was more common before. How great it is to walk with no pain.
