Bad Feet Has Ruined My Life - Need to get healthy again.

40 minutes bowflex, 40 minutes biking, 20 minute walk with the dog.

Good stuff!

I ate an egg white and cheddar cheese + mushroom omelette after the workouts and before walking. Also a handful of blackberries. ~ 500 cals

Also sat with my fam and had some chinese broth soup ~ 100 cal (a guess)

1450 cals total + a lot of exercise!

Probably a bit low on the calories, but I felt pretty good most of the day.

After 40 minutes bowflex and 40 minutes biking, my stomache area felt funny. Like it was empty/hungry with a mint-ish feeling in there. I ate my cheddar cheese omelette and blackberries right after but still had that feeling. Probably was running low of carbo-stores or something...

Love how i feel after a good workout + shower. I can lounge around without feeling guilty of being a lazy shit! I EARNED THIS LAZY TIME!!

Back on track!

190.4 and 27.5% BF
-3.2 lbs.

Quite the drop..but I don't feel so good today. My body feels really weak. Not sure if it's because of all the working out, or maybe I don't have enough carbs yesterday.

I ate a bigger breakfast this morning because I just felt like I needed it.

almond milk + cereal + banana = ~350 cals

I feel better after eating my breakfast but still felt like I needed more energy.

I was thinking I needed more proteins/carbs after all the working out which I didn't get much of. When I weight lift and eat enough protein after, my muscles rarely feel weak all over. I didn't have enough proteins this morning and my prepacked lunch was vegetables + blackberries + hummus so I decided to order up 2 fried eggs and had a little bit of curry chicken on a little bit of rice. I only ate the egg whites. (I manage a restaurant so I can order/eat anything...talk about an enabler!) ~ 500 cals.

So I'm up to about ~850 cals today so far.

I'm not sure if I should still bike today or just let my body rest.

Hiya Ken, :grouphug: This forum is amazing, I know for sure that without it I would have LONG been off the bandwagon.

You are doing great and you seem to have a really good attitude to dieting. I can't believe how much you eat for so few calories! Guess all that nutrition education must help in that respect.

What sort of food does your restaurant do?

Heya overtherainbow!

Thanks! Yes I think my nutritional education definitely helps me eat better. I used to eat microwave, canned and instant everything before going to university!!

I should take some pictures of what I eat as I'm sure 'curry chicken with rice and 2 fried eggs" does not sound like it is 500 calories lol. It was only 2 small pieces of cut up chicken with skin removed!! And a small helping of rice!! I usually round my calorie totals up just because it's safer that way ESP if I'm eating out. I will take pics next time!

I love food so much that I can always find something exciting to eat - low Cals or not! I love cooking too so I was thinking of learning some Mexican stuff where a lot of flavor is from the chillies and isn't filled with carbs/fat. yum!

It's a Chinese restaurant/bakery, so it's very bad! Very high in carbs and greasy ! And of course bakery stuff is never diet friendly!!!

Thanks for saying hi :)

Oh dear, that isn't good. I hold the bakery soley responsible for my weight gain. Ahem. I guess there are healthier options with Chinese, but I love duck and seaweed nomnom. I really don't envy your job :)

I've just started taking pics of what I'm eating (I'll upload them every few days I think), I love seeing peoples pictures of food, it sorta sticks in your head more than when you read what someone has eaten in a second or two.

I love cooking as well, and my favourite ever recipe is mexican.....
I do it in the oven and add peppers (could add tomatoes as well). Its high-ish calories, but low gi. And you could cut down on the chorizo (I use 1 chorizo embellished normal sausage), and use fry-lite.

What are your favourite mexican recipes?

Overtherainbow - that recipe looks so good. I'm definitely a meat and potatoes kind-a guy!

I actually have never made anything mexican before..it's always been on my to-do list.

I had such wonderful authentic mexican meals in dallas and san diego (I'm from vancouver, canada where our mexican isn't that great) earlier this year that I have fallen in love with the mexican chili flavors. I had quesadilla's and some seafood soup from taco trucks, freshly made churros and all sorts of fillings with tacos. So good! Love all the punch in the mexican flavors.

I love cooking from scratch so I always have in my mind roasting some chili's and pureeing them and then go from there...!

So many things I want to do..so little time! C'est la vie!

We'll looks like I ended up eating more today and didn't do any exercise. Okay..we'll I 'tried' to get on the bike when I got home at 11:30PM and biked for 3.5 minutes ( 3 minutes warmup , 0.5 minutes with resistance...) and just gave up!

I just didn't have much energy today. I ate okay today except for sharing an apple pie with ice cream - it was my friends birthday and we went out for dessert. =] and =[

Breakfast:
Almond milk + cereal + banana = ~350cal

Lunch:
small amount of curry chicken + rice + 2 egg whites ~500 cal

Dinner:
shared a chicken enchilada, a chicken mole torta sandwich ~ 900 cal (guess)

Dessert:
shared a apple pie with ice cream ~ 500 calories (guess)

So all in all about 2250 cals for the day. Apparently I need 2450 cals to maintain my current weight of 190.4 so ..it wasn't overkill...? Okay I'm justifying bad behavior! I'm bad! I've been naughty... ><

AND I couldn't get any exercise in. Just bad.

I have a tough schedule ahead of me.

Thurs: $50 omakase at a japanese restaurant.
Sat: Surprise birthday party for a friend - dinner +
Sun: Hosting a BBQ.

It's really really hard to eat properly when you're out with friends. Especially as a guy - guys aren't 'supposed' to be on diets. Guys aren't supposed to eat salads and pass on anything greasy. That's just how it is!

Anyways... off to reading a couple other diaries - it's therapeutic - and off to bed for me!

Hey Ken, welcome to the forum and I agree with the other guys, you have a great attitude towards nutrition and trying to balance what you are eating. There are a lot of areas we can fall down in re going out and social events in restuarants but I always try and step back and say to myself that at least I tried to make the right/best chioces and that wind back...before I changed to this path...I would have eaten twice or three times as much! Damage limitation!

I was also a climber before i got fat and one of my main ambitions is to get back to it again. I have my rack all clean and waiting...bought a junior harness and helmet for my daughter to introduce her to it gently and have been checking out a new bolted quarry to take her on rather than trad climbing straight away (which is what I'm used to). I reakon another stone and I'll be feeling good/strong enough to get back to it.

somedays you just dont have the energy to workout outBut you are doing so well and you DO work out so i think there i no harm!
Good luck on the bad days coming!!!!:)

Morning weigh-in :

191.0 (+0.6lbs)
26.3% bf

Overall, I'm satisfied with the weigh-in. I notice my weight fluctuates quite a bit so for no exercise + apple pie and ice cream, I'm happy!

@jjjay: Thanks! That is true. If I wasn't coming home to be accountable on these forums, I would of eaten more for sure. I used to write a food diary on paper and it helped..but it's nice to have other people give their perspective on things too!

Aww...you're gonna be one of those families that have their little kids climb with them..so cute everytime I see a young family climbing! I've mainly done indoor climbing...I'm not sure if I can climb anymore unless I find some really good orthopedic climbing shoes.

@jasper: I guess it's more of a worry that I'm falling back into my old routines when I stop working out, and eating a bad meal. The last time I had a prolonged diet, I was biking everyday for 1 hour...so I guess I figure in my head that I should be able to workout everyday or my diet is not succeeding. BUT IT IS!

@all : this forum is awesome! love you all! we can doooo it!

PS I need to work out hard today. Make up for yesterday and also...this weekend is gonna be rough!!

LOL - I think my daughter might scupper my plans Ken...she loves pretty dresses and dolls and making things...rather than rough and tumble (I was a right tomboy at her age). However, last time we went to see some friends climbing, she was itching to have a go so I'm gently introducing her to it...

I had a good day food and exercise wise.

But first..i just had some thoughts today.

I have a lot of willpower when it comes to food at home. I can make something that excites me (also I'm not that picky...I -have- been eating egg whites + cheddar cheese for many days now...and I still look forward to it everyday!! lol ). I love grocery shopping, I love fresh fruits and vegetables.

The second I go outside though, the temptations come from all sides. My friends were at the beach today after work - but I knew that if I went after work - I would A) not have time to exercise B) eat something bad with them and C) i needed to work hard for this weekends festivities.

I decided not to go, but it feels kind of bad because I am missing out on a part of summer. Diets + exercise need a lot of time as I'm sure most of you know. It almost comes down to being social vs. being healthy. That's just how I feel. I know a lot of people here also have young ones to take care of so I really admire that you can fit in the time to focus on a diet with such a tight schedule.

Food for the Day w/ commentary just because I have some pictures today :)

Almond milk + cereal + banana ~ ~300 cals - picture attached! I made 2...just wanted to show how little cereal is actually in it. It's just what is floating in the first picture. It's kashi crunch - which is awesome, but it's got a bit of sugar in it ;). I also LOVE almond milk - it's only 70 cals a cup vs ~110 for milk and I think it just tastes better :)

cucumber/carrots + hummus, blackberries + handful of seeds/raisins ~350 cals - I was quite busy at work and didn't get to eat till about 3PM and I wasn't starving yet surprisingly. When I eat, I don't really count vegetables as part of my daily calories unless its cooked in oil. It fills me up and gives me nutrition which I think is key to my body not being hungry. There's more to food than just calories! These blackberries were plump and sweet. Awesome!

1 Orange ~100 cals I always try to eat a light carb snack 30min-1h before working out. I was tempted to eat more blackberries but I chose this for variety sake.

50 min bike - said 300 calories burned :hat:

4 Egg whites + cheddar cheese + sauteed mushrooms/shallot, cucumbers+carrots ~500 cals
I absolutely love egg whites! It's a dieter's (is that a word??) dream - 4 egg whites = 68 calories!! That's a really good, fluffy, satisfying, low calorie component to cheese or meat or vegetables. It's much more nutritious than bread or what else you would compliment cheese or cooked meat with! I sauteed some mushrooms and shallots to go with the cheese omelette as well - i tried to put them inside the omelette but it was too much. And a helping of vegetables to fill me up. I do use regular olive oil when cooking so I guess there is some added fat. I don't use a lot though!

As I said I don't really count vegetables as my daily calories because I just think its pretty much negligible in the grand scheme of things. They are low calorie, full of nutrition and full of fibre to help me feel full. So this would be just egg whites (68 cals) + cheese (200 cals) + 2 tsp oil (60 cals) = only 330 cals in my mind but I just bump it up a bit to allow for the vegetables and just to be on the safe side.

TOTAL for the day - 1250 cals + 50 min biking

I think this was as perfect as it gets for me for a diet day.

It's on the low end, but I feel good. I never felt hungry today which was pretty amazing considering I didn't get to eat lunch until about 3.

I feel great after biking and showering. I want to walk my dog but I am a mosquito magnet at this hour...time to be lazy! And most importantly - my feet feel great right now. Even after biking, I feel no discomfort which was more common before. How great it is to walk with no pain.

Ken! I think you might need to come over here and russle me up some daily meals - it all sounds SO good!!

June 29 - Starting Weight = 195.0 lbs
July 7 - Current Weight = 189.4 lbs

Wooo...great weigh-in today!

189.4 (-1.6 lbs) and 27.9% bf ( i think i'm going to stop posting this...its really random so far..)

It hasn't been -too- long but I haven't been under 190 for about 2-3 months. I have readjusted my goal to 185.0. I have not been under 180.0 for over 10 years or so. At my 'prime' I was 215 lbs. I was misdiagnosed with diabetes during christmas time as I went into the hospital with my first painful gout attack - the blood test came back confirming gout and also high blood sugar because it wasn't my fasting blood sugar count. My family doctor diagnosed me with diabetes and I went on a roar of diet and exercise dropping about 30 lbs. Then I found out I wasn't diabetic...so it was good!!

Quite proud of myself today. :) I feel so good. I'm ready for omakase as my reward! I am still going to try to fit in a workout before then...if time permits.

I am finding I am having a hard time sleeping. I feel I roll around a lot more than before the diet. Not sure why that is or if it is related at all.

I know, guys aren't supposed to eat anything but big towering burgers, steaks and monster trucks :) Don't worry about it, get a salad/something healthy and just make a joke out of it, flutter your eyelashes, mince your hips and say "a moment on your lips, a lifetime on your hips" or something in a really camp way.

Glad you got your energy back today for biking :)

I might have a word with the doc and ask her to misdiagnose my bf with diabetes so he stops eating cake lol.

Hope your sleeping improves soon.

lol ruth, I don't think that will fly with my guy friends. It would most likely make things worse. I just started watching Glee, the first episode, where all the guys on the football team paintball this one teamate that joined the Glee club...

girls understand of course! That's why they are awesome!

I am so stuffed.

Just finished an omakase - haven't ate this much for weeks. For those that don't know, omakase is when you go to a japanese restaurant and order Omakase - which means 'it's up to you'. The chef makes whatever he feels like for you. The items are usually often not on the menu. It's fun. It's kind of like being an iron chef judge. You don't know what you're going to be eating. And there's a lot of flavors put together that you haven't tried before. Very memorable. I live in Vancouver where the food is just fantastic - fortunately and unfortunately!

Food for the Day:

Almond milk + cereal ~ 150 cals

blackberries + carrots ~ 150 cals

fried rice cake + rice noodles ~ 300 cals

Bike 40 min ~ (200 cals)

omakase ~~~~ 2000 cals

arugula + parmesan salad
tuna tataki
oyster shooter + assorted appetizers
figs + mascarpone cheese
pumpkin + lobster + cheese
red tuna, sockey salmon tartare, salmon w/ avocado
Black cod
deep fried quail + potatos
baked salmon in potato
bamboo broth
assorted sushi
black sesame ice cream

STUFFED. it lasted 2.5 hours of food!

I have really no clue how many calories the omakase is so it's pointless to give a total for the day! I did manage to get a good biking in before omakase which I was quite happy with.

Anyways..it's a bit late and I'm still stuffed. Expecting some bad news tomorrow morning!
