Burning calories

posted this on originally m2m's diary, but found some more to add.

ok now, this is pretty serious stuff. i found a study published on an mit website on the number of calories burned by various *shall we say amorous* activities (not for the faint of heart):

and from calorie-count.com:

Sexual Activity (For a 70 kg, or 154 lb, person)

Active - Vigorous Effort – 105 calories per hour
General - Moderate Effort – 91 calories per hour
Passive - Light Effort, Kissing, Hugging – 70 calories per hour

i’m sure this is net additional calorie expenditure over basal metabolic rate, but come on. is that all?????

Walked/jogged 42 minutes this morning. Mostly walked. I forgot I did some lunges yesterday. omg do my legs hurt. But it's a good hurt. I love that feeling when you've pushed your body and you know you did something good.

My quads, inner thighs and butt are sore. And all I did yesterday was 15 lunges on each leg, walking forward, alternating, sinking deep, but not extending knee over foot. Also did a minute of jumping jacks (usually about 65-70). Walked and jogged, pushing it a little on the jogging yest.

Those are some great stats in those links Patty! Thanks for the smiles.

Good day today! I always found that lunges hurt the next day too! They are a great exercise to do for the lower body. Keep it up!

Everyone seems normal

lunges, jumping jacks, crunches - my new best friends?!

Went to Memorial Park today. Have been trying to get there all week. I am always motivated by a visit there, but today it was hard. I was tired and walked too much. I was disappointed in myself. Did 3.15 mi (was trying to do and time 3.1 mi which is 5k, but couldn't find the marker on the ground) in 35:20. That's 11:13 min miles or 5.35 mph. Would've been about 34:48 for the 5k. Hope to get that close to 30 minutes by the 5k on October 28. ()

Came home and my friend wanted to walk. So we did for 38 minutes. So at least I got extra time in. Later we're going to use our bikes with odometers on them to measure the distance all the different ways we go through our neighborhood.

This site: is also pretty good, but we have a couple of lakes/detention ponds we go around that aren't mapped since they aren't on roads, so we'll get a more accurate gauge of how far we've been going.

Tonight I'm making a big batch of roasted veggies (also good grilled) - squash, zucchini, quartered tomatoes, red onion, mushrooms, asparagus, maybe red or yellow bell peppers - with a little olive oil, herbs, salt and pepper. With grilled chicken on the bbq.

EVERYONE SEEMS NORMAL UNTIL YOU GET TO KNOW THEM. :p

Well we didn't get to bike to measure distance yest because the husbs had to go somewhere, maybe tomorrow.

Am currently waiting for the rain to let up so I can jog.

Hi Patty! I've noticed a lot of people on here from Texas...and I know why....cos we have the best food ever!!! haha I noticed also you said you went running in Memorial Park...are you in Houston? around the Heights area?? I lived in Houston all my life up until 6months ago when I moved to London. And I worked in the Heights area for the past 2 years before I moved! Small world, eh?? (now watch--I"ll be totally off and there's actually a Memorial Park in El Paso or something.)

Anyway, it sounds like you're doing great so far and I coulda sworn I saw a ticker under your name just a few minutes ago that said you've already lost 20lbs? If so congrats and keep up the good work!!

x
Monica

These are a few of my favorite things

Oh boy. Thought I'd look up the calories for a few of my faborite fast food things. That should keep me eating them less.......

bagon, egg and cheese taquito - 432 cal (21 prot, 25 fat, 25 carb, 1 fiber, 1059 sodium)
hashbrown sticks - 140 cal (0 prot, 8 fat, 16 carb, 2.8 fiber, 440 sodium)
biscuit with sausage gravy - 491 cal (8 prot, 33 fat, 47 carb, .2 fiber, 1249 sodium)
Boy, was I kidding myself with that taquito. Husb likes them every day and talks me into going with him once a week or so (used to be much more often). Would get the meal, with hashbrowns and a coke (not diet). omg that's gross.

Their nutritional guide (flash) isn't working right. I remember a crunchy taco is 170 calories. I usually just get one of those. Used to get mountain dew, now get water. I know there are far bigger caloric choices on their menu though.

thanks moni for the encouragement. yes i've lost about 20.

well, i didnt get to jog because it kept raining. i did stretch and do some upper body weights though.

later in the afternoon my friend and i went out on our bikes. haven't done that in at least a year. she has an odometer on her bike. every quarter mile we stopped and i sprayed a small white dot of paint on the street.

we felt a bit like kids playing hooky from school, or maybe vandals.

anyway, we found our main route is 2.91 miles. one loop we also used to do adds 0.63 miles, but it's too dark there now (as sunrise gets later each day) and so we've been skipping it. so if we add one more longer cul-de-sac of 0.2 miles, then we'll be at our 3.1 mi (5k) distance. it's cool to know.

so we'll use the quarter mile marks to motivate us - jog to the next one, etc.

Patty yea its something trying to find something to eat at fast food places that wont kill your diet. Most of the time the individual choices aren't too bad but when you put it into a meal all together the numbers will knock you over.

Oh man Patty,
I can see you out there vandalizing the neighborhood!! LOL! That is hilarious :)

Isn't it great to know exactly how far you're going? Have you checked out

LOL - yes, you gave me the link, and I just saw what you wrote above mentioning it! I SWEAR that wasn't there when I posted ;)

I don't know where my head is!!!

hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

TGF Ca wine

M2M I think we were duelling posters last night, back and forth between diaries at the same time.

We did 3.1 mi (5k) this am. Made us jog as much as possible. Nice run. 62 degrees outside - very cool for a Sept Texas am.

Time 35:57, Pace 11.6 min miles, Avg Speed 5.17 mph.

We may bike again later.

Hey there Patty!

looks like you are keeping up the exercise work... now what about your goal of posting food?! =) hehe... just thought i'd check in on you, and thanks for posting in my journal!

yeah, not so much posting on the food.....

biked 4.25 miles today. not very far, but my brake was riding against my tire, so it was work the whole way. need a better bike.

Great job on your exercise today! As for the food, I rarely, if ever post my menu, I figure it's enough keeping track of it on sparkpeople, all I do is post my daily calories, etc totals.
