I'm grown and my mom STILL doesn't understand me... she just doesn't get the "internet life" or "geeky" lifestyle that I have.

I'm 41 years old... and no matter how many times i've explained to my mother and father what I do for a living... all they know is I do ... something with computers like computers are some mystical force that only a select few people will ever understand...
 
Hey there- sounds like you're doing pretty good. I've actually gotten to a point where I don't find myself feeling hungry much anymore, but I've got to say that I think I owe a lot of that to drinking LOTS of water. I know you are trying to drink more, but you should definitely put a strong effort into it. Sometimes drinking so much water fills me up and I don't feel like snacking every 10 minutes :)
 
Checking in before work. (ugh)

Was hoping the scale was going to move for me again, but it didn't. Still at 214 :) I guess I can't expect miracles, 2 lbs in one day is really not the norm!

I don't know what happened with me last night.. but I was hungry... I had a cup of popped corn for 45 calories and that didn't do it at all, but I stood strong. I went to bed extremely hungry and I woke up with the same extreme hunger. I'm sipping water now but it's PANGS... like painful ones. It's just so hard to eat first thing when I get up!

I was a little dissapointed that I couldn't finish my workout yesterday. I did about 15 min of it before my legs were so rubbery that I almost literally fell down. My friend said I shouldn't be doing the workout everyday yet, that 3x a week should suffice till I get used to it...... I guess it's true?! I felt so guilty not doing anything, and I think the need to get thin is so strong, that I overdid myself. I'm doing my best to MAKE myself realize that I didn't gain this weight in a month... it's NOT going to come off in a month.

I think I'm a bit blue because I took some "before" pictures of myself. God. They are horrendous. I have this image of what I think I look like, and it's pretty bad, but when I saw the pictures I almost started to cry. It was far worse than I had ever imagined. I am saving them for a really great "after" picture to put up.

I also took measurements, because I'd really like to measure myself once a week or every two weeks or something. I've read that it's better to judge the measuring rather than the scale :) Don't laugh! they are bad!

o_O there's like not much fluctuation there ..... I AM THE INCREDIBLE BOX WOMAN!!!!!! I guess the good news is, that I gained weight consistently EVERYWHERE... not particularly in one spot. I hope I lose consisitently also.

Have you tried a fruit smoothie to start your morning? Something like a half a banana, chopped apple, peaches are in season now, maybe some strawberries and lots of ice. I don't add any sweetener because I think the fruit sweetens it enough. It's easy to get down in the morning and tastes great. If you're going to workout in the morning, you should probably put something in your stomach first, otherwise you might wear out faster. If you wear out faster, you might get discouraged.

Oh, and don't feel bad about your measurements, mine are fairly close.
 
Paper, thanks for posting in my diary. Just caught up with your's and see that you are off to a great start. You're making smart decision with your food and staying within your calorie budget. You've cut out sodas and are trying to get off diet sodas (which is the best thing you can do). You're drinking that water, and believe me losing water weight COUNTS as weight loss. So hooray for your loss!!!! And you're exercising. So you are well on your way.

But it's going to take some time. Just be patient with yourself and with your body. The being hungry feeling will go away as your stomach starts to shrink and adjust itself to proper portion meals. Whatever you do just don't get discouraged. Forget about what your before pictures look like. No matter what that scale says you are a beautiful young woman. And you are going to be a glowing diva for your 30th birthday.

It was definitely a blue day today. I don't know if it's because my TOM is coming, because i'm just missing my boyfriend so much, because I hate being alone here, or because I'm so hungry and wondering if I can really do this. Maybe it's all those things.

Only made about 2 big glasses of water dissapear. I'm working on my 3rd bottle but my head has been pounding all day... is this all just normal stuff, due to my body adjusting? or am I just a lonely moon.
 
It's normal doll. The more you condition your body to eat properly the easier it will come. I mean we obviously all taught our bodies one thing, to eat unhealthy and that's become pretty much like second nature with me. You have to undo the learning process. Hang in there. You'll do it.

I am feeling better. I went to bed super early and feel pretty well rested this morning. I did manage to get that one more glass of water in, but that only makes 3. This water goal is so hard!!!!!! It almost frightens me when I look back and realize there have been WEEKS that have gone by in my life where I drank nothing but soda and juice. No clear water AT ALL. That can't be good. Today will be different!! I will drink!!! I WILL PEE! Thank god the bathroom is close!!

Scale today read 213. :eek: down one more pound!!! Hooray for ticker movement!

Moon. Just thought that I would drop in and say hi. Hope your weekend it going good. It is stinking hot here so I am really trying to avoid the great outdoors. Remember to drink lots of water if you feel too hungry during the day but remember to eat properly. Congrats on your 1lb loss. That is totally awesome. You will reach your goal, there's no doubt about that. Take care and have a great day.;)
 
Howdy Ms. moon. the water thing takes some getting use to. I use to drink lots of water well ummmm coke has water in it doesn't it lol... now people make fun of me at school because I always walk around with a bottle of water in my hand. No worries you seem to be doing great.....lee

I've been keeping an eye on your diary and I just love your attitude.

I'm gonna cut right to the chase. My intent is an educational awareness with a touch of kindness, please take it as such.

I hope this make sense:

This menu is really high in carbs. Even though you ingested less than 1300 cals, your carb count (on this day) is not condusive to a weight loss style program.

The first component of understanding is when carb counting is being used it's based on a 2000 cal a day. So now you only consumed 65% of the daily required calories, you need to eat 65% or less of the daily recommended carbs too, and this is to just break even for the day.

The 100% is for active people. Dieting, inactive or overweight people have to comsume less carbs to assist a weight loss. I dont have complete data on all your foods but I came close to guesstimating you absorbed close to 135% to 150% of your carb allowance with this menu. You would need a substancial exercise day to break even with this kind of intake. Probably a 3 mile run or 6 mile walk or 2 hours in the gym at least.

3 of your 4 meals were pretty carb-loaded:

Wheat pasta - well first off, your portion was correct however wheat pasta isn't a very big carb saver, really 4 to 5g's a serving and I'm not discouraging the usage of the product because it is 'health-smart' and adds extra fiber that semolina pasta doesn't not to mention 5g's per serving over a years time will add up to a nice lil piggy bank.

I suggest you only eat one of those 3 on any given day:
pasta
enchilada
taco

Eat just one on that list and pick fruits and veggies or fish or chicken for the rest of that day. If you continue to stack up carbs 3 (or more) times a day, you won't lose the weight and get frustrated why a low cal diet isnt working.

Just on a typical wheat bread sandwich day for lunch, I'll make sure I eat a yogart for breakfast and chicken or salmon for supper. I would never come back with a starchy supper again, I eat 6 to 7 times a day, my 3 to 4 snacks a day almost ALWAYS catabolics and those always have near-nothing in the way of carbs.

I only type all this because I care. I don't want you to fail and sometimes the littlest of tips may make the difference in success. I'm just sharing what I know works for me, maybe it can help you too.

I sorta agree with T2 Trucker and sorta not. I do not advocate a low carb diet. But less carbs from starches will help. because starches are high in sugar and since it's processed there's little nutrients there left. Instead try getting ur carbs from veggies. Lots of veggies.

do you journal ur food at websites like fitday? it gives u calories but also nutrient breakdown. on fitday, it'd look like 50-65% carb, 15-25% protein. and the rest is fat (but ideally overall fat should be less than 30% per day and less than 10% saturated fat). My nutritionist told me that this kinda breakdown will physically look on a plate to be 25% starch (ie: potato, bread, rice, pasta), 25% protein (ie: chicken, beef, pork) and 50% veggies (ie: spinach, carrots, lettuce). I find fitday very helpful for this.

Besides that, keep up the good work. :)

hilbillylee: I know!!! I used to be like.. "oh soda is water... just brown fizzy water!" No one has time to laugh at me because I'm constantly in the bathroom peeing now :p

T2 Trucker: I don't mind advice at all. I am COMPLETELY new to this. I have never tried a diet.. fad or otherwise before. I've never even owned my own scale. The only thing I sorta knew is to drink lots of water, keep calories moderate, portion size control, and not a ton of fat. I wasn't thinking about the carbs I guess.

I've never really believed in diets that really cut back carbs. I used to live in Japan, and trust me.. I ate so much white rice, it would turn atkins green in the face. I literally had rice with every single meal when I lived there.. even breakfast... and I weighed 130 dripping wet. So it's tough for me to understand this whole "low carb" thing that America is all into. This sorta thing really doesn't exist over there!

I'm gonna try to do my best! Today was NOT a good day for me lol!!!!! After we have this big discussion on carbs I'm gonna admit that I totally blew it today :p

B: Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal : 260

L: Tomato Soup : 320 ( It was a large bowl )

I went out for dinner... here's where it gets ugly!
Dinner: 7 oz grilled steak tips: ( I'm guessing about 350 )
Small Side Salad no dressing: 30 calories roughly?
French fries: ( oh no!I only had half the small portion but it still was a big portion...) 350?

Total: 1310

I guess it's not a total "Omg I totally ate my weight in crisco" thing.. but I shouldn't have had the fries I know. I should have had a larger salad at least with the steak because I didn't really have any vegetables all day! Must... learn... nutrition!!!! :eek:

I am glad to announce that I am drinking water like a fiend!!! I've downed 6 12 oz cups so far, and I plan on doing more, since i'll be up for a while longer. So water goal is coming around!

Also on the excersize front, I walked for 20 min and totally cleaned my house for 2 hours. Believe me, scrubbing the scum off my tiled shower wall got me just as sweaty as Tae bo does :p my knees weren't feeling up to the jumping around today.
 
Today was pretty good! Scale stayed the same, ( was a little afraid it would go up because of my french fry escapade.)

L: Mixed Salad with Broiled chicken breast: 302

D: Tuna Salad sammich on whole wheat w/ mixed greens salad: 407

Snack: Cup of soup and 2 rice cakes: 120

Total: 1046

Water: 6 large glasses

Diet Soda: only ONE!!! Yay!!!

Excersize: Tae Bo 30 min workout

You sound like you are doing great so far!!

You and I have about the same starting weight too. I am on the Atkins diet and it sounds a lot like the one you are doing.

Also, that is very very cool you are from Japan!! Tokyo is my top place to visit if I ever get money! Egypt and Englad and runners up though, hehe ;-)

Rice is one of my favorite foods too- Up until the 6th grade I ate it almost every day. (It's all my mom cooked! Besides Ramed Noodles) And never got above 90 pounds. Then I moved to Erie, and just got huge. I think I cried the first time I got on the scale and it said 120 pounds! Sometimes the body just changes. Slow metabolism runs in my family on both sides, so I basically have the metabolism of an Elephant! But you are definately going in the right direction with Excersize and water!! Keep it up, if I can do it- Anybody can!!
