Away we go

Thanks Tik!

I think it is a great way just to get away from everything else.... work... kids.... stress!!! Just go to the gym, crank the tunes and just lose yourself in your workout!

Totally agree!! It's the one time during the day that my mind is clear! The gym is like an escape!! hehehe....if I'm not careful, I might end up living there! :smilielol5:

Hey there Rider - I wanted to come over and check out your journal. Seems like you are doing a great job so far.

I can relate to a lot of the things you've gone through (losing weight, gaining it back, work, travel for work, stress, kids, etc...) and I think you're balancing things out well!

I have to wake myself up at 5:45 during the week so that I can get to the gym and back before everyone wakes up - it's definitely a challenge and I am definitely not an EARLY morning person (I can easily manage 7 or 8am, lol). But sometimes we have to make sacrifices so that we don't take away from family time.

Keep it up!

Thanks for the note DW....

I took Tuesday off of everything. I had meetings and running around with the kids... But ate well, so I thought it was a good day.

Last night I lifted... I thought I would jot down my routine. I am still working on my shoulders, trying to get them so I never have to have surgery EVER again!!!

I warm up by doing a 10 min mile on the elliptical.... gets my blood flowing.
I try to do this every third day... then when I get home, I finish off with a protein shake.

This morning I did my biggest loser on x-box for 45 minutes. I like the aerobics in the morning... gets my blood flowing for the day!

ARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

So I sit down to lunch with my shredded chicken breast, low fat cottage cheese seasoned with Italian seasonings... and in walks someone with bags and bags of burgers from the local home burger shop..... I can smell the greasy bacon burgers, dripping with cheese.....
It was almost more than I could take. It really looked good, but I was good!!!! I ate my lunch and ran to my office to hide from the temptation of stealing a burger ( or two ) and inhaling them in one quick bite!

Damn you Bacon.... why must you taste sooooo good?

wow, that's some good self control! GREAT JOB!

Ok... so the weirdest thing happened at the gym last night.... I was on the elliptical doing my normal routine.... 1st mile...no problem... 2nd mile... nothing new, my legs start to tighten up. 3rd mile... legs get loose again... heard rate starts to climb.... somewhere between the 3rd and 4th mile... my heard rate starts to drop..... goes from 159 to 140 and my legs.... nothing wrong with them... they feel great... so I keep running, and running, and running. I look down, I am at a pace of about 7 mph, normally I run about 6 mph and my legs and everything else are feeling great. I have some great tunes on so I keep running not even looking at the display on the machine. Finally my playlist on my Zune stops, I look up and see that I have been running for an hour and a half and my legs aren't killing me, I look at the display.... 10.5 miles!!!!! Granted, I am sweating, but my body is feeling fantastic...... WHAT IS UP?????

I thought I would really feel it this morning, but I don't....just still a ton of energy! Whatever happened.... it was a great feeling!!!!

wow, that is awesome! Sounds like a runner's high, the nirvana of all runners. When the temps go up a little you should start running outdoors, I bet you could really do some great distance running!

Omg - 10.5 miles - that is amazing!!! Well done!

It dies go sooo much quicker if you don't look at the display, I really struggle not to unless I have great music on though and at the minute I am
putting up with whatever the gym has on - really need to sort out my iPod!!

Well done on such a great distance!

Charlie

This weekend was better than expected. I took the sleds out for one last ride :( The trails were great and when we stopped for a bite to eat, I didn't opt for the greasy cheeseburger and fries.... I had a nice bowl of chili instead. A few of the people I rode with were supposed to be running in a 5k... but they opted to ride snowmobiles instead. The trails were pretty tight in the trees so I got more of a workout than sitting on the couch!

After my long run, my legs were killing me! On Sunday before I lifted, it was murder to even do my 10 min mile on the elliptical... guess that's what I get for pushing myself. Last night I did 4.5 miles...took it a little easier, so it took longer. I had to play with the resistance so I could maintain my heart beat, but my legs feel better today than they have since the big run!

Over all I am feeling really good about what I am doing, funny though... even though I continue to lose weight, I am feeling .....well.... how do I put it...? Fat. I have gone from a 40 waist down to a loose 36... And from my lifting, my upper body is in prob the best shape it has been in since high school, from my running, I have more stamina than I have again... since high school. Yet still feel fat. Don't know why.... just not feeling it these days..... Hopefully the scale tonight will make me feel better!

Been a while since I have put in an entry. I have to admit... it's been pretty disappointing that I have not been losing the weight like I had earlier. I have been going longer and further on the elliptical machine, and have been VERY religious on keeping my calorie count at 1800....

Last week I was at the Dr. telling him about it during a routine physical, so he wanted some blood work done. Turns out I have Hypothyroidism. So.... starting tonight I start taking meds for the rest of my life to combat this. I hope this will help!!!! I am kinda bummed by this, but all my other labs turned out great! So I guess I am doing something right for my health!

Ahhhh a new week!

Last week sucked! I ended up with a major sinus infection that took me down for the whole week. Started feeling like crap on Tuesday, missed 2 days of work, went back on Friday only to end up with a fever of 102 by the end of the workday, which set me back for the whole weekend!!!!!! I still have a nagging cough, but am going through gym withdrawals.. I would like to go tonight, but don't know if my lungs can handle it.... still have a nagging cough.

I am interested to find out how the Thyroid meds are working with my metabolism.... Would like to see the scale moving again!

Funny how when you are sick, you end up in such a fowl mood.... and it was catchy! By the end of the weekend, our whole household was just in a bad mood. We all need to do something as a family to get us in the same game plan again.

I felt sorry for my youngest son this weekend. I made burgers for supper one night, and my youngest ( who is overweight ) had his one burger and veggies, quietly put his plate away when he was done...looked at his older brother ( who is a stick and must have a tapeworm ) and told him.... it's just not fair! My oldest was scarfing down his 3rd burger, Baked beans and chips and still hungry. My youngest ( 11 yrs old ) told me how it isn't fair that he can eat like that and not have a weight prob.... I had to tell him that I understood.... I have gone almost my entire life not eating like everyone else also. Not much consolation for him, but at least he knows that he has to work on it.

Well.... here is to a better week.... Hope to get to the gym!!!!

Ok....feeling better.

I don't get the whole weight loss thing... I can work like a dog, diet and do everything right, and not drop a lb. Then take a week off of the gym, sit around the house and do nothing, then after one day back to the gym boom..... weight loss. Really frustrates me to no end. Happy to say that after a week of a nasty head/chest cold I made it to the gym two days in a row. I don't feel like my something in my chest is going to pop out like in the ALIEN movies. Before my workout last night.... weighed in...... down to 204!!!! Yup Dropped 4 lbs from the week before.... Like I said, just don't get it.

Must have slept wrong last night, my neck and shoulders are killing me today. I can't seem to find the right position to "work". Oh well, just keep the fight going!

Back again... It has been a long long month..

Well... the day after I wrote my last post, my neck, arms and hands hurt like H#!!..... So after leaving work early, sitting in my recliner for a day, I thought it was just a pulled muscle, but when I got up to go to bed, the pain dropped me to the floor. So at 10:30 my wife ran me into the ER. Turns out the pain that I had earlier, was a buldging disk in my neck, which in turn turned into a herniated disk. Let me tell you, I was never so happy to get a shot for pain in my entire life.

So it's been a month since the ER visit, My fingers are still numb, but I am starting to get the feeling back in the tips of them. I haven't taken any pain meds for 2 weeks and I have started to get back to the gym this week. When I got on the scale, I was worried that I would have gained a few lbs..... but I had stayed the same weight!!!!

Earlier this week I had blood tests done to see if I had the right dosage for my thyroid, and it's right on, so Maybe my body is working the way it is supposed to now!

Plan for the next few weeks...NO LIFTING!!!! but continue to us the elliptical. Funny how not working out for a month can set you back.

Ok.... where did June and July go?

Been busy camping and fishing and doing all the stuff that we are supposed to do when it is summer time. Having a BLAST!!!!!

Weight wise...... doing great. I am back in the gym and lifting and doing my elliptical sessions 6 times a week. I am now down to 192 lbs, so from my start on this quest, I am down about 50 lbs!!!!!! The last time I lost weight, I dropped 80 lbs in about 6 months, this time it has taken a year to lose 50. That gets me very frustrated at times, but then I know that I am in much better shape this time! Lifting weights has helped in that department. I know last time I lost a lot of my muscle mass, while this time I am much much more in shape!

My neck, 100%.... My thyroid levels... well, they are actually too low, so now am on a different med level. So we will see how this goes.

I am down to my last 15-20 lbs to lose. These I know are the hardest to lose, so need to work harder to keep going.

Things have been going great the last few weeks! I haven't been to the gym as much as I wanted, mostly because the lawn needed to be mowed. So I break out the trusty mower, put on some good tunes and mow mow mow. It's a good ol fashion push mower, not even self propelled, so it is a good workout. Takes me a little over an hour to mow, so I guess I can count that as gym time!

Last night we had some friends over to the house, was really nice to hear people comment on my weight loss. I don't want to sound vain... but it is always good to hear.

I am posting my pictures... but they are kind of deceiving. The first picture of me is at about my heaviest, that was 8 years ago. I did lose a lot, but gained about 50 back.... now I am 50 down again...:D The second pic is of me over the 4th of July weekend. I don't have any since then, but since the pic have lost another 10..... Just need to look at where I came from to keep me motivated!!!

I did my 45 min on the elliptical last night... then came home and mowed the lawn. Funny how the kids are never around when you need them.

At work today..... someone brought in Klondike bars..... I was good and just sat and watched everyone eat them. I went back and looked up the nutritional value and was REALLY glad I didn't have one.

After work last night, I went and did some grocery shopping. Found some Turkey Brats.... thought I would give them a try ( craving some grilled brats all summer) They were really really good. Still not the best thing in the world to eat, but much better than a reg brat... and I got to have a treat!

Looking back on this post.... should be labeled .... Ramblings of a mad man!!!

Wow ^^ You're amazing. Your weight loss really shows! I read your whole thread, and I kept thinking I wish I had that willpower! My coworkers always get McDonalds, or drink sodas, and I usually cave. Only recently did I start my new moto, I say no! I say no to everything that isn't in my diet plan.

I applaud your willpower to exercise too! Even after your mishaps with your shoulder, and the ups and downs, you kept on the track. It's very motivational.

I hope you reach your goal weight!

I think the secret to good weight loss is not saying no to cravings, just fill yourself up with something healthy instead.

Thanks Loch.... but now I need to confess.....
This weekend I had my first piece of pizza in 4 months!!!! We had movie night on Saturday night with the fam.... and my wife thought it would be fun to have pizza while watching the movie, and I caved in. ( 1 piece ) I felt sooooo dang guilty! But then on Sunday we went to a baseball game and I did better. I didn't eat any of the fun food and waited till I got home and had a Turkey burger.

Before the game on Sunday we did some shopping, was fun to try on Large clothes instead of XL... I am still holding off on buying clothes, I want to hit my goal first. I had to buy 1 pair of jeans, because my wife was yelling at me. My old jeans are size 40, and the new ones I bought are a 34 waist. wahoo!!!! I just have it in my head to wait till I hit my 175 weight before I get too many clothes....silly, but thats the plan in my head.

Goal tonight..... 1 hr on the elliptical trainer! ( hope my knees can take it!)

Grrrrrr..... I just wrote a huge post... then hit a key and the whole thing disappeared! Not a happy camper!

On with the show.

Had a great week this week! Been very strict about getting to the gym every day. 4 days on the elliptical, 2 days lifting.....1 rest day per week is my goal, and hit it this week! Topped out the scale at 189 last night, so the end is in sight!

We are going out to the lakes this weekend doing some camping, so it will be a tough weekend for me. I love camping food, smores, eggs and bacon or sausage for breakfast, fried fish for supper. So, I made a bunch of meals for my son and I to eat while we are there. This way I hope I can fight off the urges to have some fattening foods.

When I was grocery shopping this week, there was this lady in front of me that was so rude to the bagger. The store hires challenged individuals for bagging, and this lady was upset with the world and was taking it out on this young man! I couldn't take it any more and told her off.... I guess I must have gotten kinda loud, because the manager had to pull me aside. Some people! arghhh!
