Away we go

Well..... I have been "stalking" everyone's diary for a few weeks now, so I might as well start my own... and see where it goes.

Typical yo-yo dieter... 6 years ago I dropped about 80 lbs...felt great! Then after feeling all well with myself, I thought I deserved a break! One meal led to another... then one day led to two... then a week, then a month... get the picture. Now I have climbed up the ladder and gained 50 lbs back. Last Feb I tore my right bicep and tore my rotator cuff. Surgery followed then Physical Therapy. My therapist was great, had me working again in a gym! After 3 months of stretching and light weights, I got the all better from my Dr..

So now the process of losing the weight again. Presently 230, with my weight height measurements I fall into the obese category. That freaks me out whenever I see that.

On with the diet! I am lowering my calorie intake... never know if it's too much though...? I am continuing my weight training on my shoulders and back. Two reasons for this, I would like NOT to have rotator cuff surgery again ( this was my 3rd surgery for it ) and I would like to be in better shape for snowmobile season! AND I am doing some cardio on an elliptical. I try to work on hitting my optimum heart rate. I have been doing this for about 2 months and can really tell that it's working... I can go longer and have to work harder to hit my heart rate goal.

Breakfast this morning.. My morning shake. Wife and I have it every morning

strawberries-1/2 cup
fat free yogurt- 1/4 cup
fat free cottage cheese- 1/8 cup
skim milk- 1/2 cup

Blend it all up and call it breakfast!

Lunches usually consist of 1/2 grilled chicken breast
1-apple
1-orange

2 snacks at work.
and orange or an apple and some 1- part skim-string cheese

supper last night.
1 small piece of meat loaf
serving of green beans
milk.

almonds later in the evening for a snack

I use fit day to keep track of my calories.... I am hovering around 1700/ per day.

Here we go... hang on for the ride!

Back from the gym.... for some reason felt totally unmotivated to do anything.... but still 45 min on the elliptical...

45 minutes is always better than nothing! Keep it up and you'll be back to your goal in no time. Your breakfast smoothie sounds yummy!

Yeah, that breakfast smoothie sounds AMAZING.

Sounds like you're off to a good start! For weight loss nothing beats cardio. 45 minutes on the elliptical must be at least a 500 calorie burn!

Ahhhh... morning time with my coffee!!!!!

I feel like I am getting a chest cold.... I guess that maybe why I didn't feel to motivated last night.

Ok... feeling better, but got side tracked with family last night...so no gym time! But still kept the 1500 cal goal! Tonight will be the test. Every Thursday I meet with friends at a local bar to sit around and chat. I don't drink alcohol...but diet Pepsi's!!! The other hard part is they get pizza and nacho's..... Don't eat the food...don't eat the food!!!!!

Arghhhh!!!! Sitting at lunch with my 1/2 grilled chicken breast, orange and apple, with a desert of almonds.... when in comes 4 large pizza's. come on have a slice..... isn't going to kill your diet! Like heck it wont!... anyways.... was good, grabbed my remainder of lunch and went out to my pickup and ate outside. Also a great way to calm myself, but now my whole department has the smell of pizza.

Ok I made it through my get together with just one small piece (not a slice, a square) of pizza.... good news is that I weighed in yesterday....down 3 lbs for the week!!! So I guess I deserved a very little treat. Now I found out this morning that I am going to Chicago next week for work.... eating out with vendors! Good thing the hotel has a nice gym to go to!

Back from Chicago...... I think I did "ok" with my eating. I know I had some forbidden food, but did a lot of walking and went to the gym every day while I was there. funny how you get used to "your machines" at "your gym". The stuff they had at the hotel was great, but not what I am used to, so I had to change things around a little.

The hardest night was when we went out for pizza... I had to have a slice of original "Chicago style deep dish" I was good and took the smallest slice of a small pizza! I haven't weighed myself yet, that is tomorrow...but let bygone's be bygones and hit it hard for the rest of the week....

I am looking forward to getting back to my old schedule!

Ok.... went to the gym after work yesterday. I dreaded getting on the scale, thinking of my trip to Chicago! 2lbs down!!!!!!! Guess the walking and sticking with the exercise and lifting while I was gone must have helped a little! ( and portion control...somewhat) Yesterday was my lifting day, so I was really pumped to get to the machines.

Then when I got home I thought I would go out and play fetch with the dog a little... I haven't thrown a ball since I had the surgery, so I was a little apprehensive on the first throw.. so I took it really easy. First throw...not too bad, second... a little tight, but not bad. By the end I was throwing at full force!!!! A great feeling! I know I got the ok from the Dr. but it has been a long 7 months for my shoulder to be feeling this great! The rewards of my lifting has really shown through!

Thank you Sunflower.... it was quite a relief to see that magic number go down! I was really thinking I was going to have gained 2.

It's the being accountable part that really motivates me!

welcome to the forum and keep it up iq!

I envy someone who can lose 80lbs. If you did it once, at least you know what it takes - It took me about 6 or 7 months or trying to lose weight until I realised what it really takes.

Thanks roysymmonds83, The hardest part about this is that the rest of my family, wife and 2 kids are very thin, in fact, the Dr. told my oldest son that he needs to eat more calories! ( and last night he devoured an entire pizza himself!) I am the cook in our house, so I make my meals and their meals. Usually it isn't that bad, I just cut down on my portions and leave out the bad stuff and double up on the veggies. Don't get me wrong, they are all very supportive on my journey! Just hard when you look across the table and see a potato smothered in butter and sour cream!...lol

yeah I'm the odd one out in my family too.

I used to be skinny, only skin and bones as a kid and then very athletic as a teenager but fatso once I finished high school and began my love with pub food, beer and the couch!

If making a particular type of meal for others is putting you off, are there any meals which you can cook which all of you will enjoy and it being good for you? Maybe that could be one way to reduce your tempations???

Had a great day yesterday, and starting out today well also!!!

got up bright an early to go to the gym...did my typical 45 min on the elliptical. I have never worked out in the morning.... so far feels great!!!! Have a busy day of cleaning the garage ahead of me, then off to my son's band concert later in the day. Then tonight, having some friends over to sit around a fire in my back yard.

I took a look at my drivers license last night...don't know why, but I could really tell that I have lost some weight in my face!!! things are looking better :D

Weekend are tough!!!! Got busy and didn't have time to go to the Gym this weekend at all, but yard work does count! Had a party on Sat night... did pretty good...stayed away from the drinks, so that was good. Sunday...well football! Had some chicken nacho's not too many, but still felt guilty having them. Other then that I was happy!

Got into my "skinny" jeans this morning, without having to suck it in! Guess the weight training and dieting is working! People are starting to notice that I am dropping some lbs. that's a boost also!

Monday is a new week!!!! lets keep it all positive!

OK...lets just get this out of the way.... Dieting sucks!

with that being said.... I did very good yesterday. I hit my 1500 cal intake goal, went to the gym and did my weight training, and I felt great. Then...... I had a snowmobile club meeting. I made a great chicken stir fry for supper knowing that there would be food at the meeting, but still didn't make it easier seeing and smelling the wonderful pizza being served in front of me! Oh well.... I knew it wasn't going to be easy, and I overcame the urge to grab a slice and devour it in seconds!!!!

I am a little stiff today after my workout yesterday. I don't know why... but I love that feeling. I thought my arms were going to fall off after the workout, but it's all for the better. I am hitting some of my goals for lifting and getting my shoulder at %100, so that's a good thing.

Tonight it will be run run run. Get home from work, try to hit the gym and do my elliptical run for an hour, go home and make supper for the family, then I have band concerts for both of my kids, 1 in the middle school and 1 in the high school..... home and go to bed....whew, tired just looking at it. BUT...... PIZZA WILL NOT BE SERVED AT THE BAND CONCERT!
