OK people

My turn to start a weight loss diary. My newbie/intro thread is here, if you want some background.

Today was awesome...had my Wednesday personal trainer session. 1 hour of weights and boxing training and I was drenched in sweat.

I had trouble doing the 2nd half of my modified sit-ups...I didn't quit but had to break for a couple of seconds. Never happened before. Could be because I haven't worked out for 7 days, which is odd for me. Had some stuff going on.

Today I wanted to go for a bike ride after the gym but have run out of time. But tomorrow weather should be hot and sunny so I will make some bike time.

My son wants to practice his soccer skills so perhaps we'll go to the park tonight and I get in some extra exercise in the process.

----
Morning weigh in: 194.2
Goal: See the numbers '193.whatever' tomorrow morning.

June 25 Entry

OK

Today was a go-to-gym day...got there at 9:45 and stayed until 11:45. Did some weights but nothing too crazy difficult. Spent most of the time on the treadmill.

Did some of the time on the treadmill holding a 25 lb plate in front of my tummy. That was fun...actually it sucked but when I put the plate down, it made the jogging with no weight feel totally easy.

Just having lunch now, spinach and tomato salad with turkey breast.

Probably going to go back to gym this afternoon once my food has settled.

I am getting a new (used) car very soon and that might take a chunk of time away from me (running around/plates details etc), so I need to get in as much gym time as I can, when I can.

My daily goal is to see any kind of positive results.
My current 'milestone' goal is to get to 190 by June 30.

Yesterday's Weight:194.2
Today's Weight: 193.8

Alright!

This will be a quick post! Busy day today, no gym but still out/about doing lots of stuff.

Did a surprise photoshoot with a family friend's daughter. It went better than I expected!

Wow am I bad at keeping this thing updated!

Thankfully my weightloss is better on track!

In my last post I was at 193...I am at 188 right now.

I am slightly ahead of schedule...my plan is to be at 187 by this coming friday, so I should reach that easily.

Did 3 hours at the gym last night

Awesome !

Hey you're doing great man ! i love you enthusiasm ! :) It sounds like this is going very well for you, and by all means i encourage you to keep it up.

An added benefit of having a personal trainer is that in my experience they also help you with the foods you should be eating aswell, (( especially for gaining smexi muscle mass ^_^ ))

Keep it up man your doing great !

Thanks Michael!

Yes its going great actually. Getting below 185 is a 'mini-goal' for me and its totally within sight now...2 weeks at the high side.

Last post I was 188. Today I am 187.4 or something like that. My goal is 187.0 by Friday. Might not make it because I feel sore today after two separate workout sessions yesterday...so I won't be going to the gym today!

And you're right, a good trainer will have experience with what to eat and what not to eat.

I will share what he's shared with me:

Good to eat:
Spinach
Cabbage
Most other fruits/veggies...no bananas though.
One serving of protein per day (fish or chicken/turkey breast preferred)

(I make sure to eat large servings of either Spinach or Cabbage every day...and usually I stick to some turkey breast deli meat...you can fry it (no oil) and it tastes kinda good).

Bad to eat*:
Anything starchy
White rice
Processed food with added sugar, that sort of stuff.
(many more items, most are obvious so I won't mention)

* When I say 'bad to eat', I mean, if you are currently overweight and looking to rapidly improve your physical fitness....there's nothing really wrong with these foods, I realize that.

Saturday here...

Scale didn't move in one direction or another this morning...no big deal. Weight doesn't instantly/automatically adjust itself in time for your morning weigh in.

Went to the gym for 1 hour yesterday...took it easy and only used the treadmill. Today I start my first jiu jitsu class and I didn't want to risk being tired/sore before I even got there.

It's going to be a real killer class...I've seen the participants and they are all HUGE. Plus they leave the mats drenched in sweat, and they are in perfect shape.

I totally might get my ass kicked today!

heya,
just wanted to say thanks for passing by my diary :) wow, seems like your doing pretty great yourself...i'm seriously considering kick boxing/MMA but would need to get to a lower weight to do it. for now i just do combat class which is more aerobics based (not for self defense) but it feels great to kick, punch, block etc to the music. i'm guessing before i decide first things first i'd need to know the difference between judo, tae kwon do, ju jitsu etc coz i don't have a clue :ack2:, they all look the same to me.

ju jitsu (sp) sounds cool...how did the class go?

Hey

The class went awesome! I admit I was nervous because the first 20-30 minutes of the class is a group exercise/warm up session. And its one thing to sweat it out 1:1 with a trainer, or at the gym by yourself. But being in a group of 10 guys and not being able to keep up, shoot that worried me.

But it all went fine, I could totally keep up with them. I had to remind myself that I am probably hitting the gym more often than some of those guys, so even though I am heavier than them I am working my cardio for 1-2 hours every day...so 30 minutes is no problem...and it wasn't.

Then when we were warmed up we got into the grappling, which was lots of fun and made me sweat buckets, literally. I grappled with the sensei so it was more him letting me have fun and grapple him, rather than me going against another student who was also fighting back. But it was great fun.

Tonight is my 2nd class...the sensei warned me that the warm-up routine is more rigorous on Monday nights but I am looking forward to it. First class I ate a small bowl of cereal and drank a 'green' energy drink an hour before hand and it kept my engine revving the whole night.

Cherry if I were you I would call some MMA gyms and see what kind of classes they are offering...see if they have women's classes that are more cardio focused vs. actual combat. Might take some calling around but you could find something really great. This type of workout really makes you work hard.

One thing I noticed, at the gym I go to (not the place I take jiu jitsu), they are offering a 'fight fit' class, where for 1 hour you get training and workout in MMA type exercises, but no sparing; its just a conditioning class. You might find places that offer that too.

My weight update today is BORING: still 187. Its been stuck there for 3 or 4 days.

Could be because I am coming off a weekend and I usually have a bit more trouble sticking to my eating plan on Sat/Sundays...I ate a GIANT hot dog on Sunday!

Could be some muscle growth...I was at the gym this morning and did better on several weights than I had a week or so ago.

I won't worry about it.

Incidentally I figured out how to turn on the body fat %'ge meter on my bathroom scale this morning. It put me at 22%. Around a month or so ago I was 29%....now that my weight loss may be slowing down, I'll also measure my body fat % to see if I am still losing fat but not losing overall weight. I can handle that.

Tuesday Update

Had an amazing time grappling at jiu jitsu class last night. TOTALLY sore today. Plenty of time to recover though...no class until Saturday.

Not sure how I lost 2 lbs in 24 hours...might be related to holding still at 187 for the four previous days. This weight loss stuff is quirky.

Hi all

Not much to say here...the week had ended and I achieved my goal of 2 lbs lost. Though it was kind of weird...I lost them all right on Sunday/Monday and then stayed at 185 for the rest of the week. Seemed like I was not making progress but when I look at the week overall, 2 lbs is good enough.

But darn I got tired of seeing 185 on the scale for five days in a row....what's with that?

Friday (last night) I went to gym once in the morning, then once in the evening. I strained a leg muscle when stretching during the PM trip but I think its ok now...going to do some grappling tonight and hope the leg will be a non-issue.

I want to get to 183 over the next 7 days!

Hey its August 10th already!

So I've been pretty busy since last post.

Lots of summer stuff going on...plus I took on photography as a hobby this summer and have been doing 1 or 2 shoots a week.

I also went on a 1 week vacation 2 weeks ago and WOW did I fall off the healthy eating bandwagon.

I actually ate (and enjoyed!!!)
  • Pizza
  • Fries
  • Poutine
  • Real Hamburgers (with buns)
  • Hot dogs (with buns)

I left on my vacation at 185...and came back at 186. What a goddamn miracle.

Anyways, back to reality, spinach and broccoli and lean meats! Bye bye fries!

But since I've been back I am back to losing a bit of weight each day, which feels awesome.

Still getting exercise at least once per day....be it cardio, weights, or jiu jitsu.

Hey all

Just a quick update...had my first Brazilian jiu jitsu tournament two days ago....I did OK but lost both my fights and was eliminated. Unfortunately I had injured my foot one week prior so I could not get any practice or exercise time in for one week prior to the tournament. That didnt help much.

Weight loss going good

Today's weight: 177

OK!

Thursday morning here.

Had a SUPER Wednesday yesterday...

  • Biked 20 km to/from gym
  • Personal Trainer session for 60 minutes
  • Beach photoshoot
  • 1.5 hours of jiu jitsu grappling

My injured foot was burning in pain by the end of the day, but its feeling better this morning.

Weight loss is slow and steady....as long as the scale goes down, I don't care by how much or how little.

Another Update!

OK its a Monday now...Sept 14th. Been a while!

Found out 2 weeks ago that I broke my right foot training MMA back on August 10th.

Didn't realize it was busted...anyways, got an air cast and wore it for 2 weeks or so.

Foot is 90% better now...I can do most things except running/jumping exercises.

I'm adjusting my cardio workouts by doing elliptical and real-road biking as often as possible.

My goal is to do two workouts per day...like a trip to gym, plus a 10 mile bike ride. So far its working good...I can do this almost every day, except for weekends.

Today I am just about to bike to the gym for a private training session, then back home to edit some pics from a paid shoot.

OK!

Well around 8 days ago I dislocated my elbow during a BJJ fight. So now I am re-habbing it.

Only been able to work out twice since then...will try to make it three times today!

Immediately after the injury I ate a lot of crappy food to try and feel better...i think I gained a few pounds instead. But I am back on track now

Current Weight: 167.2

OK this is really, really funny.

It's been around 2 years since I've visited this forum, and updated my thread.

Funny to see I weigh about the same as I did when I was last here...today I am 166 lbs....two years later.

I'm coming back to the forum here because I need some extra motivation to keep going, keep dropping.

Want to get down to 155 lbs.

I've been "behaving well", e.g. proper nutrition and lots of exercise, but kind of fell off the program around 3 weeks ago. I had been preparing hard for a sporting competition...and I achieved my goal for the event, hitting my desired weight class of around 162 lbs.

But now I think there's a rebound effect, where I felt I achieved my goal, so then I just sort of stopped.

So anyways, it's time to turn that around and get back on track!!

Ok so now to some practical stuff....it's Friday at work and I need to get to our in-building gym today. Have not been all week...which is abnormal for me.

One thing I noticed -- is basically, when I am not going to gym every day, I gained maybe 1.5 lbs a week. This is just the new reality for me.

No workout = gain weight.

PS if anyone is going to bother reading this journal, I will warn up front that it may be aggressive from time to time...I won't be hiding the fact that I am completely dedicated to eradicating the remaining fat from my body.

For me, overweight = enemy to be conquered. But I won't play a 'victim role' anymore.

I still have 15-20 lbs to go. And it's entirely up to me what I do about it.

It doesn't matter how busy I am at work, or at home. I will succeed.

OK and by the way...I will finally be posting some before/after pics in this thread...probably this weekend.

I need all the motivation I can get.

Welcome back! I did the same thing. I went a few years without posting and just came back a week ago. Let's not give up this time!
So you want to lose about 8-9 lbs? That's quite doable! Very reasonable. What sport do you play?
Looking forward to your aggressive posts.... >.>
