"Arnies"

I've headed off to gym once or twice on particularly rainy days, and knowing nothing about anything I just grab some dumbbells and start waving them around.

There's one exercise, nicknamed "Arnies" - I can't find anything like them in any book or any website, but they're hard as frick to do, so I'm wondering if they're a worthwhile thing.

Sitting upright (adjustable benches at the gym allow back support if you wish)

Take your dumbbells and hold them horizontal at your chest with palms to the rear - as if at the top of a curl. Then push straight up whilst twisting your forearms so palms face foreward at the top of your reach.
then back to starting position - palms rear.

Anyone seen an exercise like this? Does it have a more common name? Does it do anything at all?

Speaking of shoulder exercises, a trainer I used to have taught me one I liked and have been doing for the last few weeks. You do a basic overhead lift with the dumbells, and once you come down into a "field goal post" look, you keep your arms elevated to keep weight on the shoulders, and sorta do a fly movement, bringing your elbows together, with your forearms parallel.

Anyways, it really works your shoulders, great movement.
