April's Diary

All right, to start off I began this journey 8 weeks ago at 264 pounds. I now weigh 242. I still have 107 pounds to go to reach my goal of 135 pounds. My set goal date is 4th of July next year. That means about 2.6 pounds per week which I think is a very reasonable and realistic goal. The method I am using is basically not considering this to be a weight loss program at all , but a change in lifestyle. I am making concious decisions on the food I eat and the amounts. I am making a concentrated effort to increase my activity levels. Bascially, I eat as a healthy person, and be active as a healthy person and I am becoming a healthy person. I have spent years being on every kind of diet imaginable and the one thing that made me fail above all else, was the fact that I was constantly have to say you can't have that. You're too fat for that. Then, becoming frustrated, I just gave up. Now, I do not tell myself no, I simply say If I'm going to have that, how much am I going to have and how will I adjust my other food intake to allow it? I don't know if it makes sense to anyone else, but it's working for me, so I'm going to keep it up. I feel like I'm setting myself up for a lifelong change in the way I look at food. Which is a whole lot better than setting myself up for another failure. This is me at 264 pounds

I take it you're in texas? Huzzah for The Lone Star State!

It looks like you're doing an outstanding job! A wonderful, wonderful start.

Keep safe! Rita is going to reak havvoc on both Texas and Lousianna!

Lol did you no you were following the weight watches plan. What you are doing is what ww teaches you. Congratulations on your weight loss so far, you are going to be awesome at this and im sure we will be asking you for advice soon.

WELCOME! Hope you're ready to meet new friends, have some great laughs, and learn and teach along with the rest of us! you are of to an AWESOME start! WOO HOO!

Texas,
Are you doing weight watchers? That is how I am watching what I eat by the weight watcher tools.. But I am not going to any meetings.( I have everything from the time I joined before)

Weight Watcher's is one that I've never even looked at. I just decided to do what makes sense to me. I guess it doesn't sound as strange as I thought. I've spent so many years and so much money on every kind of weightloss program/diet/pills and I think the reason nothing worked is because I didn't depend on myself. Looking for the quick fix I guess. Just decided that I'd better find a better way soon. I'm not that far from 40 and then it's a whole new ball game!

Hey there babe! Thanks for posting in my journal =) It sounds like you are off to a fabulous start!!! I am so proud of you for really making a conscious decision to start living a healthy lifestyle and to stop dieting... I was lucky I guess, because I saw my mom struggle for years with dieting, and I knew it never worked for her, so from the start I knew I wanted to just do whatever was healthy for me and change my life around - and it has been great so far!

I also have to say that being here in this forum with all these great people has made all the difference. I could NOT have done this on my own!!! So i'm glad you are here and we will definately be there for you =)

Thank you all for showing so much support. Now, I've just got to get through this week in Louisiana. I will make it though, because I know the good people in Group 2 will be counting on me as well. Mowed the yard this morning. Took about 1 1/2 hours(didn't get to the back yet)
Breakfast- 3 oz light pork sausage
1 whole egg+1 white scrambled
1 slice whole grain toast w/ 1/2 tsp. plum preserves.
( I use preserves because it uses the whole fruit)
I will make sure to do my workout today too. I am using Richard Simmons workouts and I try to do a mile walk in the evenings. If I can't walk due to weather, I will do another R.S. workout. I alternate between Sweatin to the Oldies 2 and Disco Sweat. I have a Tae Bo tape too but I haven't gotten up to that. I think I will check out some new videos so I can have a bigger choice and not get bored.

Hey April, I have R.S. disco sweat, but can never do it. I dont know all those moves they are doing! But I do my Tae Bo as much as I can, shoot for everyday.
You sound like me, cutting the grass. I do half one day takes almost 2 hours, and half the next day. Do you have a push mower? thats what I use... Burns TONS of cals!

Welcome to the forum and it will be great being in a group with you! You sound so motivated and you definitely know what it's going to take to get the job done.

I was just thinking the same thing, Christina. She sounds just like you. Hehe! Boy I love those Richard Simmons workouts. Haha! I used to do them with my mamaw (grandma) and mom when I was younger. :)

I've always wondered about the shorts I thought they stopped making them in the early 80's..EW! I just had a vision of me in those things.

I think Richard Simmons wants me dead. The sweating to the Oldies is great, but it has gotten to be less of a challenge. The disco sweat is alot harder. I did the Disco this morning, and the Oldies this evening. Whew! Now, I'm exhausted and hoping I will be able to get up in the morning. The crunches are vicious!

Hey there Texas!!!
I have Richards disco sweat..and the toning video..( Well my mom has them...but I want her to send them back to me)....Richard is a funny and sometime annoying little man...but he has helped so many people and he has a good heart....just not good taste in clothing...lol......But his videos are a work out....The toning one....OMG..I was soooo sore I could barely walk or turn my head!!!!
When you head to louisiana....and you go out to eat...make sure you pick HEALTHY choices.....Have a salad and glass of water before the main meal...then eat only half of your food and take the rest to the hotel.....As for exercise..you will probaly be walking alot just doing the site seeing..but see if your hotel has a gym..get an early morning workout.......Have fun while you are there....and If I was you I would not eat anything out of the red river....lol......there is a lot of goo fish in there!!!..

What in the world is a goo fish???? Well, Saturday I had pizza for lunch. Had 2 slices of a medium, the did both richard simmons tapes. Then passed out! I'll do better. I made my hubby feed the rest of the pizza to the dog. No temptations!

I do that all the time......throw things out so I cant eat it........
A goo fish.....well I dont know exactly..lol....but years ago when my ex and his friends use to fish on the banks of the Red River....they would talk about how this old black gentle man would catch all these "goo fish"...and cook them right there on the spot......well from what they told me this fish had a real greasy taste ..very nasty ' to eat......And they asked the little old man...how he could eat them...and his reply was...." when you catch and eat a goo fish...it brings you goo luck"......
The fish is probaly called something else.....Hey maybe you can ask someone down there....lol..let me know because now I am curious......
