Hi There,

I've been reading all these threads and it seems like this diet is big in other countries - especially having actual clinics.

I live in the Northeast US and have not been able to find an actual clinic near me, but would also like to know how popular this diet is here in the states.

I had never heard of Cohen until one of our tv actresses talked about it and how she lost her baby weight that she couldn't get off the first year.

Just curious, as I am a stupid american :p who can't calculate kg into pounds and need to use an online calculator so that I am thoroughly impressed with everyone's weight loss!:D

Hi Ididit4me,

I live in the Northeast US, too and there are no clinics in the States. Our support is via the Internet. I'm in the middle of week 4 and did research after first reading about Leah Remini doing this diet.

LOL about the online calculator, I did the same thing!!! :)

There is a site that a lot of us use who are from the US, but I'm not sure if I can post the site here??? () I hope I don't get in trouble!! I read these posts as well as they are very informative and help a lot. This is my first post, but I wanted to let you know that I live in the same area as you. I was surprised to find how many people are on this diet so I think it is catching on here. It's definitely hard, but I read so much about it's success that I figured I'd give it a chance!!

Good Luck!!

Hi Ididit4me & Kathy0529,

I live in the Northwest US and am using the support via the Internet too. :) It's sooo funny to read how you two heard about it, since I read about it in an US Magazine about Leah Remini using this program and dropping the weight. :) LOL

As for the online calculator... I'm riding in the same boat as the both of you. :)

I'm in my 9th week and although it's quite hard and I keep cheating here and there, it definitely works! :) Now, if only I can STOP cheating so I can drop the weight faster. :)

Good luck. :)

thanks!

Hi!

Thank you so much for responding - I realize that for most of the posters there is a major time delay, since I see all the activity is happening at 3 in the morning for us!!

I had a heck of time orignally finding out what Leah REmini did. I got this thru a friend of a friend who lost 78 pounds in 12 weeks!!! That completely motivated me to try this.

thanks Kath for the other board, I will go back and forth between these two.

I have been on this diet for 9 completed days. I had a setback yesterday - didn't cheat, just experimented with times of eating and accidentally had 2 meal twos:eek: I put 2 lbs back on !!! But, I'm back on track today and feel better. Lost 6-7 initially.

I have been weighing myself everyday - which I no is a no-no, but I had to see for myself that this did everything it claimed to do. I haven't cheated yet, but have come so close. I had to throw out my husbands dinner leftovers immediately for fear that i would "just have one bite".

HOpe you're all doing well too. See ya on the threads!

jmwmac,

US Magazine was the same place for me, too. Couldn't find too much about her and the diet on-line, though, but glad I found other places to research.

I have been dying to cheat, but am really trying to follow the "do not deviate" plan. It's killing me more so on the weekends out of pure boredom, but I'm doing it!

Ididit4me,

WOW - 78 lbs in 12 weeks is absolutely amazing!!! I need to lose more than that and would love to have those results....I pray I'll have that person's luck!!! This is my last diet after being on so many like everyone else.

I'm in the middle of my 4th week and am down 19.2 lbs so far. This week seems to have slowed a bit where the weight loss is concerned, so that is making me nervous, I just know I can't give up!!

We can all do this!!! :D

Kathy0529 don't give up

I have to wonder if our biggest problems with diets is our dreams of grandeur! At least that is it for me. When I heard of this woman's success of 78 pounds, I started calculating, then I would do my own "what if I could lose....5 lbs per week, or 6, or 1 lb per day or a 1.5 per day!" I get myself so worked up! And I know that if I don't lose those astronomical amounts I get disappointed and then give up. I have to change my way of thinking.

I am just very glad to lose more than the average .5 -2 lbs per week. that is what I have to focus on. I have to lose about 65-70 pounds and my 12 weeks will be over April 23. My birthday is april 20th and I want to be 135 lbs by then!!!! I figure that is the best birthday present I can give myself.

Good for you on the 20 lbs in one month, if you keep up that average that's 60 pounds in 3 months and that is amazing.

I have decided to gradually stop weighing myself so that I don't get disappointed. I think it's good to get you refocused in case you've been slacking, but as so many posters say, you will plataeu at intervals. Don't get frustrated, you're doing great!

Hi everyone!!!
I'm sooo glad to see your post. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only American on this board, but didnt want to ask, in case anyone got offended. I also got this "lifestyle plan" from US magazine and immediately joined. I really enjoy this forum and find it extremely motivating since I have no clinic to go to. Since I'm sooo jealous of all the Cohen people who get to actually talk to someone in person, I started attending Weight Watcher meetings. It has really helped. I know, I know, its a waste of money, but being weighed in front of someone has kept me from falling off the wagon.

Looking forward to everyone progess, especially mine! LOL

Welcome everyone from the USA

Nice to have some fresh blood on board the other thing that differs to Australia besideds the pounds and kilos thing is the dates, we put our day first and month second eg todays date is 15/02/07.

This a fantastic forum and I know the majority are Australians but we are all here to support were ever your from.

Look forward to getting to know you all better.
Maybe the more people who join the Cohen's plan in America will raise the awareness to open some clinics there.
Get Cohen's on Oprah - she has everyone else on. hehehe

Bye for now
Sam:)

Im in California

I too do the program via the internet. I started on October 17th, 2006 and finished my re-feed on December 23rd, 2006. I lost a total of 17 pounds. It is a great program and works very well. I didn't cheat one time during the program and am very proud of myself for that since the program is very challenging. Life after Cohen's is going very well. I am still keeping the weight off and find the "new rules" pretty easy to follow. A little restrictive but if it works I can stick with it. So good luck and keep up the good work everyone!!

thank you

Thank you fellow posters! I've been reading the other threads and they are definitely informative and inspriring. I was having one my "did I make the right decisions" day on Tuesday - that's the day I didn't follow it right and gained back 1-2. I was thinking that maybe this was "just another diet failure". But reading about everyones successes and some of their trials has been great and put me right back on track.

I will post a new thread so that you all don't think I only want americans on here. I love being global!!!

Thanks again.

10 days down, hopefully less than 74 to go!

I'm in California too! I am now past 12 weeks and going to purchase the last 12 so I can get to refeed - I have 25 lbs to lose. I love this diet - it's so restricitive but I know that's why it works! I love being able to buy new clothes and get rid of the old! I'll be seeing my family that I haven't seen since June next week - it will be fun to surprise them!

This board has been very helpful to me, especially when I first began the diet - a big THANK YOU to all the ladies all over the world!!

Welcome MelissaAnn:)
Welcome.
What did you mean about paying for another 12 weeks to get to refeed.
Is that not included in your intial payment.
In Australia each persons contract is made up individually for example mine is 4 months, some may be 12 months depending on how much you have to lose and this includes refeed, I know that if we need more time the clinic is flexible with time extentions as long as there wasn't many deviations invloved.
Because this affects your blood levels.
It will be interesting to know how cohen's is run in the USA.
Wish you all the best
Sam:)

The internet program is in 12 week support/payment cycles the first cost US$228 then followup 12 week support cycles are $178.

So on the internet program it is cheaper at the start than Australia, Singapore but of course there is no clinic to visit and no personal 1on1 with consultants, just email. Its a sort of "Cohen Basic Edition, pay as you go". I suppose if you had to pay for 12 months of support then Austalia would be cheaper, but heck if you had 60~100KG to lose over 12 months any price would be worth it!

Hi Nans68,

In America we have to purchase the program in 12 week intervals. If we reach our goal in the first 12 weeks, then we will get the refeed. If we do not, then we purchase another 12 weeks for a lesser price than the first 12. I guess it depends on how much you have to lose. I know that I'll have to repurchase another 12 (hopefully not more than that) as I have over 100 lbs (or 45.5kgs) and, although I would love to lose that much in the first 12 weeks, I'm realistic that it will take longer than that.

I'm just finishing my 4th week and am down just over 20lbs. I know the weight loss will slow down, but I'm hoping to lost at least 3 lbs or more a week.

Have a great day!!:)

lessfatty- what site did you use?

Hi,

Thanks again for all the posts. As everyone has said, the internet is cheaper initially.

LessFatty - you paid $228? I paid $250. When did you start yours? What internet site did you go through? Myabe the price increase was for the new year for me. But, I want to get my husband on this - although, can someone tell me how I can take his blood without him knowing it!;)
Obviously, if I can do it cheaper I would - cause he's balking at having to pay and he just wants me to give him what I'm doing.

I know it won't work to do this, but I think just to get him mentally ready for all the restrictions I will give him my plan but up the grams by 5-15.

Any men out there who need to lose 50 pounds - I guess roughly 25 kg? what was your gram intake?

Well, I'm stupid with the ticker-thing, but it's 12 days and 13 pounds gone first thing this morning!:D

Ididit4me,

I also paid $249 for the program on the 1stpersonaldiet.com site.

Congrats on your 13 lbs and good luck w/your hubby. ;)

Kathy

I started last year in Jul 30th. That was the price then.

Anyway $228 or $250, $22 it's just a few take-aways that you dont need around your waist , just pay the price and do it.

However if Hubby is just thinking or not sure uncommited, I think just dont bother, it really takes real commitment and planning, you MUST WANT IT BAD, bad enough to say no to everyone 100 times despite everything in your body saying "eat it"!

Cohen diet people are taking action, they want to be slim and healthy bad enough to draw blood, pay money, got through 3 days of starch/sugar "cold turkey", and plan for each and every meal for months.

What I cannot understand is why Cohen is not a big big success particularly when I read about the huge success of those ladies with PCOS, what better than to be able to conceive and give birth to a healthy baby after years of trouble.

Ididit4me, lol, as a pathology collector, yes, I am the one with the needle, it is virtually impossible to take blood without anyone knowing, there are times when I wish it wasn't so:) .
Rather than worry about amounts for your hubby, why not just get him on track eating only Cohen's. If he can stick to it and he is noticing a difference, it is well worthwhile getting his own personal plan. As LF said and as you know, it does take commitment and using your plan is not being realistic, he will get hungry and deviate and then it is likely that the plan will be 'at fault' not his attitude. However you go, good luck.

Lessfatty - I know all about that committment! I'm still struggling with it and I keep telling my husband about it. I can't get a solid committment from him about it, but I went food shopping yesterday and measured out his portions of meat along with mine. I figure, I can cook up the same meals at dinnertime at least, and he can start to get an idea as to what this will be like.

I agree, this diet is really more mental than anything. I've been doing great so far, but last night I really wanted to deviate. It's amazing to me how my mind can totally picture me eating that piece of chocolate, or making cake batter and eating it!! However, I perservered, made baked apple for the sweetness and only ate half of it!!

Isn't also fun to actually feel a difference in your body too!? Like when I put my hands on my hips and they feel smaller it's great. About 10 years ago I lost 30 pounds and was close to my ideal weight. I loved being able to actually feel my hip bones when I was laying down. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THAT EUPHORIA AGAIN!!

Anyhooo, I'll keep you posted as to how hubby is doing and me.

14 pounds down!!
