Any advice on ankle strengthening?

I about failed my high school physical today for next year's sports because my ankles are too weak. I have already gone through rehab on both of them for very serious sprains and numerous torn ligaments. I have had x rays on one of them and missed over 2/3 of my soccer season last year. What are simple ways to excercise my ankles? I already have bands to work them with and i balance on a pillow for strength but is there anything else i could do?

I'd talk to your athletic trainer at your school and/or the PT you rehabed with to get some exercises. Explaining stuff only goes so far without actually having a hands-on guide.

Would calf raises be of any use to this guy?

I know they focus on the calves but surely the ROM must be working your ankles too?

He really needs to have the pivot-shift test, the drawer test, and etc to determine exactly what's called on for functional training (this is what I call functional training) for his ankles.

Sure, calf raises will do something but not address what might be the real issue.

where is your dr or a therapist?

i have talked to the trainer numerous times and get the same stuff, ice, tape, and do the band excercies. I have not seen my personal rehab trainer since my last injury which was late fall i have talked to her but no re evaluations. I will just keep with what i have and see how it goes.....

Single leg squats on the bosu is a fantastic all-round ankle exercise. Start with the round side up. When you get good at them try flat side up. This will help no matter what the problem is.
