another weight/cardio question

does any one know which burns the most calories, cardio alone or endurance weights alone.
wouldnt you burn more calories if you did both or cardio alone?
( just need the answer as i gave the advice that its better to do both, as a fellow instructor, told me that cardio alone would be enough, not sure on his advice as he told me that fat turns into muscle, which i know isnt true!)

dont listen to him. do both if you want to loose weight. definatly do weight training, it keeps muscle and upps the metabolism, causing you to burn more cals for a long time even after you are done lifting!

thanks for that, i dont need to lose the weight a friend does, and the advice i gave was to do both,as doing the weights speeds up metabolism, but the instructor as thick as he is, argued with me, thank god for REPS, i think it sorts the real fitness instructors from the p*****

It is ridiculous to tell an overweight person that they can skip cardio and lose fat. You told your friend the right thing to do when you advised the friend to do both cardio and weight training. It is true that weight training builds muscle, but it is hard to see it if it is underneath a layer of fat. Just as doing a thousand sit-ups a day won't reveal flat toned abs if you haven't burned calories through cardio. Some people have naturally fast metabolic rates and can still appear slim and toned with NO cardio at all - just weight training. If your friend is a natural ectomorph then that is possible. If not, skipping cardio will not achieve the desired results. But doing both cardio and weigh training will help burn the calories and tone the muscles.
