Anna's Diary

Hey All,

I joined the forum about 4 weeks ago and after reading alot of the diary's can really see the value in writing one myself.

My background:

I'm 36, 179 cm (5ft 11) and 97kg (213 pounds).

I've been maintaining this weight for about 18 months and keep thinking that the weight should just somehow magically disappear, but so far no luck. In that time I've been trying to get pregnant, but no luck with that either.

What with fertility treatments etc I've ended up a bit down on myself for overeating and being lazy!

So over the last 4 weeks I've been steppping up my excercise and now I'm getting on to the overeating thing.

Yay..... here goes nothing.

Here's the answers to the 'start a diary' questions.

1. I'm 5'11 and 213 pounds

2. Ideal weight? Not sure. About 170 pounds for a starter. I'd really like to fit the clothes that I love in my closet!

3. 4 months from now I'd like to be 198 pounds (definately under the 200 pound mark)

4. I want to lose weight mostly so that I can do the types of weekend/holiday activities I love. We kayak, hike, etc but I'm always last and puffing at the mo' I'd like to look better in my clothes and better in photos.

5. No specific event I'm aiming for.

6. Shift work really effects my eat and sleep patterns, but i'm really confident that with this forum and also a calorie counter I'm on the right track.

7. I have a weight problem because I eat too much! i.e. when I'm tired, bored, lonely etc. I find it easy to procrastinate and put off excercise

8. lifestyle changes ; eat less, excercise more

9. I found food logging very helpful to losing weight in the past. (and at one time just not eating much)

10. Lifestyle changes meant I eat more than I should. I get complacent about it too, thinking ' one little ...... won't hurt)

11. Things that haven't helped me lose weight in the past... see above really. I find the shift work really interferes with energy levels and impulse eating.

12. I am going to log food on a calorie counting website

13. I cook alot of food at home, and try not to buy much processed food.

14. We probably eat out 2-3 times a week. We get sushi alot (healthy), and sometimes go for pizza and ethnic food

15. 3 favorite foods are (can I just put EVERYTHING! I love eating ... sigh)

16. 3 favourite restaurants vietnamese, pizza, pub food

17. 3 things I can do differently.... Count the calories, plan ahead for meals, don't get too hungry

Man..... there are alot of questions.... I'll stop typing for a bit and write some more later.

I'm excited about doing this thing! :hurray:

Good morning. Anna Banana is my daughter's name too. :D

Glad to hear you are excited to do this. That will get you off to a good start. As long as you don't let up and keep focused on your goal, you will get there!

Thanks Derrick,

I'm pretty motivated and have been doing the exercise thing pretty well, now I need to just cut out the sugar and bad fat.

Today has started out pretty well for me. It's a beautiful day here is NZ. I took my dog to the forest, except for the stoooopid dog rolling in horse shit it was pretty nice.

I had to get home and wash the dog, and since I was pretty dirty by then (think washing horse shit out of your dog while she is shaking herself over you), I got out into the vege garden and weeded for a couple of hours.

Hot Yoga tonight

Catch ya later:waving:

U r from NZ, have always wanted to go there.

I think your goals are realistic, and more importantly you want to do it right.

I loooove food too. Wherever I live/work, I tend to love the native food. A few years ago when I was living in a different country I loved their food so much I didn't realise how much I was eating (new food totally threw me off balance). I still not live in my native country, and the new food I come across every other day still throws me off. But I love love love food, so....

I think the more I have visited this site, the more I have learnt and the more questions I have. This is awesome.

Good luck. I'll drop by your diary and say hi often.

Welcome to the forum anna!

I agree with how helpful food logging is. Everytime i stop doing it, the pounds begin to add on. So now im just never going to stop!!

Good luck with your journey! The goals you've set your yourself have set you off to a great start!!

Hi Juni thanks for the visit... I've just visited your diary too :) I've just been to a yoga class where they heat the room up to 39 deg C so that it is like doing yoga in India! THe outside temp here is about 7 deg at the moment.

Hi nightrunner, thanks for the welcome.

I've had a good day today....

I've eaten well- about 5 meals over the day and lots and lots of veges today. I don't usually eat fruit, but I had a banana and orange so that was good.

I've had 1380 cal so far, so I can still fit in a little evening snack if I get hungry.

The food log website I'm using takes of the calories that you burn doing exercise, but I'm just tracking the calories that I eat and trying to have the exercise burn as an extra bonus,

I'm aiming for 1800 calories a day... my maintain calories are about 2500 so that puts me at a good deficit, without it being unrealistic I think.

I'm trying to up the protein and I've really noticed that I'm not hungry so far.

I took my dog to the forest, except for the stoooopid dog rolling in horse shit it was pretty nice.

LOL!! I can relate. Our dogs are ALWAYS rolling in something!! No matter how many times you wash them! :willy_nilly::willy_nilly:

Thanks for the post in my diary :D

Sounds like you're off to a good start! You want to do it and thats the first big step!

And you're being realistic! You'll definitely be successful! Just keep it up. we're all here to help and support you!

Hey Anna! Thanks for stopping by! What kind of spicy foods do you usually eat?

I LOOOOOVE samosas and Indian rice (biryani) i could eat that for days and never tired of it. I've had spicy thai a few years back and enjoyed that as well, but other than that i dont think im adventurous enough to try much spicy foods. Anything you recommend?

oooooh, my favorite topic of conversation, food and that too Indian food. Yum! Food is the cause of my downfall, and food is so yummy here that it has aided to my downfall (regarding weight) even more. But I still love it, cant get enough of it.

I love biriyani but I am bit of a snob in this dept, it has to be done right. :) The best biriyani I had, was actually in Pakistan. Samosas are good, but a little too deep fried for my taste, and they are huuuuge here. soo...

I love all kinds of curry, panneer, chicken, puri (deep fried dough). But the food is so different in different parts of India. In the south people eat a lot of fermented stuff like Idly and Dosa and I loooooove those too. And their sweets is soo good, the milk balls, the jelebis aaaaaaah. I could go on and on...but I'll stop. This is a forum where we talk about healthy food that is good for the body...

Anna, so sorry to have hijacked your thread. Yep, hot yoga is great. It is monsoon in this part of the world, so it has cooled down quite a bit, but is still muggy and gross. We do yoga outside, so whenever it rains the class is cancelled (two days in a row now). It is frustrating, but when I go back to the class after a few days, I feel so good. :)

Good luck and thanks for dropping by my dairy. Sorry again for hijacking your thread about food.

I'm right there with you all on the spicy food...

I love Laksa soup (maybe malaysian I think), and from Thai I LOOOVE Tom Yum, and anything with lemongrass and ginger and chilli.

I'll eat pretty much anything savoury Indian... fresh naan is the best. I don't go for the sweets though thank goodnes!

Anyway on to today...

I've had a really active day today.

I took Bella (dog) to the park (no horse poo there!) and we had a blast running and playing with the tennis ball. I wore my heart rate monitor (very under-utilised, had to dust it off ) and did 30 min avg 146 heart rate, which I think was ok. I'll try for a little longer tommorrow.

I'm on holiday from work til the end of the week, so I've been spending heaps of time in the garden. It's almost spring here so we need to get onto the weeding and getting potatoes etc in.

Eating went well. It'll all be a struggle to keep it up when I go back to work (sigh). I'll have to plan ahead so I don't make any trips to the dreaded vending machine.

:drool5: oh my. im thinking my next meal out will have to be at an indian cuisine. I have a few friends from india and pakistan, and i love when they have me over for dinner. I dont know all the names of the foods, but im in food heaven when im over.

Anna 30 mins at a heart rate of 146 is amazing!!! Keep it up!

It's great that you are aware of where your struggles are when it comes to eating-and that you're planning ahead for your meals!! I think im going to start doing that the next time the dreaded TOM comes around again. Maybe then i wont feel like ive gained 10 pounds over 2 days :p

I just had TOM too! Decided not to weigh for a couple of days. I also managed not to go crazy on sugar ( it's what I crave). So I felt pretty positive about that.

I was absolutely shattered by the end of yesterday. I might have overdone the whole active thing.

I've taken it a step back this morning. I still jogged with the dog, but I didn't try to do more than yesterday. I did 30min at about 140 bpm. I'll go to Bikram Yoga again tonight. It's really great because my hubbie Steve goes to Yoga as well, so we motivate each other to get there. It's a 90min class and full on but I get a real blissed out feeling at the end.

We're going out to a pub tonight, but we'll go after dinner, so I won't have to try and find something healthy to eat there. Just a glass of wine will do me and fit into my calories. The people I'm going with won't order any food either, so it should be a simple night. My brother is playing jazz at the pub so should be a fun.

I just read the 21 simple tips (somewhere in the diet articles I think), and some of them were really good. Keeping your food similar each day appeals to me. I've sort of been eating the same stuff each day and it means I'm really clear where and what the calories are.

Yay! Tickers are fun :D

Wise choice not to weigh in around TOM lol

I wouldnt call your 30 min jog a step back! Doing a workout despite feeling like a truck ran over you is a definite step forward! Keep it up!!

90 mins of yoga sounds heavenly *sigh* i hope you enjoyed it!

I'm not sure heavenly is the right word for the yoga.

It's in a heated room (very humid as well), so my face goes purple and i get soaked in sweat.... however it is a real mental challenge and I feel really great at the end (pretty awful during though).

I went for another jog today. I did the same again and kept my heart rate at above 140 for 30 min (avg was 147). I'll keep doing that for another week and then try to add 5 min.

My eating is going well avg about 1800 cal a day.

Back to work tommorrow, so have to start my planning now for food and to fit all the exercise in. It's such a downer when holidays end! I'll need to start planning the next one.

Hey anna!! Thanks for your support! It makes me smile :) I'm not completely out of the plus sizes, jeans are definitely still plus sized. But you take every milestone, big or small and celebrate it :D

Your ticker is cute :D I love it!! Now we can all see your progress! You're doing great! You're very active and you have a positive attitude! Every small change amounts to something in the end :D

thanks antyoch, I'm so into this forum, you get all this support when you need it and can give a little as well, YAY.

opps I've just been out to dinner and thought I was making a 'good' chioce by getting seafood, but it was all fried and battered etc and came with garlic bread. YUM. I shared it with my mum, but there was a huge amount and now I'm feeling pretty full (what with the 3 glasses of wine as well)

I'll try to make better choices next time, but man I enjoyed that dinner.

I think with the exercise I can call today's calories even, so thats still a win I reckon,,,

lol no, the way your describe it, it sounds more like a challenge!

I try to weigh myself once every week but when i feel alright i may weigh in 3-4 times a week. I know how you feel about the constant need to weigh in though. Sometimes i avoid going to the bathroom with the scale altogether :p
