Angela's Diary

I love the symbolism of the candle thingy. Very cool that the girls are taking an upfront role in the ceremony. It will be something that they will remember forever (at least the older one will).

I've always thought about a wedding as being more then just the commitment between two people. It's the public affirmation of what you are as a part of your community and society. Your girls are part of that in a major way, as well as everyone who is in attendance in a more minor way.

My sister is getting married next month and she didn't want any brides maids or any of the usual pomp. She was a bride's maid for my wife when we got married and I told her how much it meant to me that she was not just there for the wedding but part of it. That she stood up in front of everyone and supported me publicly. It changed her mind, and even though she isn't having attendants or anything, she found ways for each of us to be part of the whole thing. Not an easy thing since she has seven siblings and 8 nieces and nephews that she is very close to. (oh, and she is getting married on my anniversary)

Yeah, that's not an easy thing. Very hard when you have so much family and you don't want anyone to feel left out. We have minimal attendants - my sister is my maid of honor, Mike's best friend is his best man, my oldest girl is in charge of the rings (the rings will be in a lace pouch, which is attached to her bouquet instead of ribbon), and the my little one is the flower girl. (That's going to be interesting . . . lol)

Wow, all this talk.... I am so excited that one day I get to do all this stuff, woohoo! Your wedding sounds absolutely magical and symbolic of the importance your family holds in your life. Beautiful.

Thank you Anke. :) It's fun and stressful. But still fun.

Morning Lass. Sounds like you are doing a lot of work for the wedding. Are you close to your goal for the wedding?

I'm on track . . . if I continue the way I am going I will hit my wedding goal. then, after the honeymoon I will make a new goal. :) Still have a long way to go.

We are doing a unity ceremony with a twist - and it will be a surprise to all of our guests. We found a great candle holder that has five spots for candles - one on each corner and one in the center. The sides include the words, Peace, Love, Joy & Hope. The center candle is red and the outer candles are white. At the appropriate time Mike and I will call the girls forward and we will each light a candle (someone will have to help my little one) and together we will all light the center candle to symbolize unity of family.

Not to be a downer....but I have this vision of burning wrists when you all try to light the center candle. You might want to do a dry run prior to the ceremony to make sure lighting the center candle as a joint effort doesn't result in any burns.

Sorry to be a downer...my brain just tends to see the danger in everything. Too many years doing daycare perhaps??

I appreciate the head's up . . . we planned to each light our own individual candle (someone will help the little one hold hers while they light it, of course) then all four of our candles will converge in the middle to light the center one with our flames united. :)

My secretary is leaving for another firm so we all went out to lunch today for her farewell luncheon. I fully intended to eat a core friendly salad but once I got there and smelled the food, I couldn't resist. My portion was the smallest of the group so I am happy with that at least. It was really good, though, so the extra workout will be well worth it. Wedding plans are still in full swing. We are trying to get our passports so we can go away but who knows if we will get them in time? If not we will stay in the States for our honeymoon and then when we are ready to go overseas we can do so without having to wait. We did find a great deal on a lovely resort we fell head over heels in love with, so my fingers are crossed that those passports will get here ASAP. I'm dreaming of tropical waters . . . :D Just the thought of going to this place has me wanting to kick ass in the gym and get as much off me as I can before I go. If I can get a few pounds below my initial goal, I can enjoy all there is to enjoy while on vacation and deal with the aftermath when I get back. Who knows, this may be the last time I go there. This is definitely our only honeymoon. I plan to sample all the local fare (within reason, of course) and enjoy yummy, fruity, girly drinks. :D Only live once, right? Of course, if we go somewhere local I will behave myself just because I know that I can have that stuff at any time. Anyway, looking forward to the gym tonight. I have dreams of white sand and a hot new swimsuit. :D

Have a great rest of the day!

if you are willing to pay for it you can get passports in a couple weeks. Erin and i did it 2 years ago when we went on our last cruise. It cost a hell of a lot more but if you need them...
Just thought i would help. :)

That does help. :D Thank you, B.

When I got my passport renewed last year it wasn't all that much more to expedite things. It's as simple as checking a box and paying the additional fee.

Where are you going on your honeymoon?

$60 per passport to expedite. Our first passports so it'll probably take a little longer. It's my understanding the processing time without expedition right now is four weeks so, theoretically, we should be okay. We have twice that long.

Where are you going on your honeymoon?

We are staying at Sunset at the Palms resort in Negril. :D:D

Thanks. :D I think I've looked at the resort pics a million times. *Bing Crosby voice* "I'm . . . dreaming . . . of a white . . . uh, beach . . . " lol

A lot of people have suggested the usual Sandals, Beaches, Breezes honeymoon all-inclusives but when we just happened to come across Sunset, we were hooked.

We went to Ireland and England for our honeymoon. It was great, but we (I) didn't plan it out so very completely. We stayed in everything from a castle to sleeping in our rental car, but what a great time.

Last year we went back for our ten year anniversary. This time I planned it out much better. We did Ireland and Scotland, last year. What a great time.

My wife wants a "real" vacation one of these days, so I'm thinking that perhaps a cruise would be nice some time in the fall. We'll see.

the season for passports is sort of coming into a lull - so if you use the expedite feature (usually you need to prove travel plans but any travel agent can get you that0 you'll have them in no time.. just don't wait...

Oh, the castle that we stayed in is Castle Leslie in County Monaghan. It happens to be the same castle in which Paul McCartney married Heather Mills about five years later.
