and so it begins... Cassie's Diary

Hiya, firstly let me tell you a little bit about myself. I'm 21 and from England i have always struggled with my weight and have tried many different diets to try and shift the pounds... I was looking through some of my holiday photos from last year and i couldnt find one of myself where i thought i looked nice so i decided it was time for me to STOP and sort this weight problem once and for all.

I struggle with motivation and that is my main downfall, whilst dieting last year i lost over a stone and although i wasnt my ideal size i felt fantastic... a year later i had put the weight back on and added a little extra!!!

I confess that i am a comfort eater and i tend to eat when i am depressed or bored.. I am currently struggling through my third and final year at university, it has been a traumatic and stressful experience and the thought of dieting during this time has been an added stress that i felt i didnt need. Now i have a couple of months to go and my dreaded graduation date is only 6 months away, so i am determined to lose quite a bit of weight by the time this date arrives...

Apart from the graduation i also have two weddings to attend and although they are over a year away it is suprising how quickly time flies...

I joined the forum mainly because i wanted the support and guidence from you guys on here as although i get a mound of support from home i usually get the snide remark like... 'oh no not another diet... i wonder how long this will last' or ' are you on the seafood diet.. everything you see you eat' I know that they are only joking and mucking around but when you really need someone to talk to or boost your confidence i feel it is best to talk to someone who is going through the same thing...

My diet started yesterday and so did my yearly gym membership, i am paying quite a lot for this so that makes me determined to get the most out of my money :D
I have begun a food diary, writing down what i have eaten because i feel i am less tempted to eat naughty things if i have to write them down :D

My fiance is being very supportive and has joined the diet and gym with me..

I finally feel that i am able to make a difference to how i look and i can't wait to see the pounds drop off me

Hi! welcome & all the best.
I know how you feel. Everyone here is very supportive & understanding.

What a great post!

Welcome Cassie! From the sounds of it your are certainly on the right track and in the right place. It seems you have got everything well underway, and you are right this is a GREAT place to find all the extra support you need and you will also learn a few tricks as you go. With any luck you will not only reach your goals, but you will also help others here in the process.

And for your first little bit of advice, though you likely already know, beat that stress with a little whole hearted exercise. Works like a charm for me! Writing exams at University is tough at best, but fitness aside, getting the blood pumping will make a hige difference.

Let us know hows its going, I am sure many here will be interested.

Thanks for the welcomes guys, i am looking on the basis of 'a new week a new me' normally people start at New Year i'm just a little bit late... but better late than never i say!!

Day 3 and all still going well, getting the odd hunger pain but i am eating plenty of the right stuff and drinking plenty of water, i am desperate to get into the scales but i refuse to, i know i will get depressed if i havent lost any and lets face it being on it three days i am not going to have lost much.. It is just very tempting to sneak on the scales and have a peek LOL!

I wont though i am sticking by my guns and not going on for another 11 days. I want to see vast differences in weight so sticking to weighing every other week is the best solution for me i think.

I havent had any cravings as such although being tempted lots of times... GRR it really annoys me when people do that, 'do you want a biscuit?' ... no thanks i am on a diet... 'are you sure?'
LOL!!
i know they mean well but i just feel like screaming 'don't offer me biscuits!!!'

Other than that though.. all going accordingly to plan. I have the added stress of trying to grow my nails also.. that is going as well as the diet is so looking good so far.

I'm trying to complete my final year dissertation which is taking my mind off all the naughty things that i am normally eating, so it is working as a good distraction...

Lets hope the nails can survive the England match tonight... not that it'll be that exciting judging on their performance lately !!

another day has passed, and all is still going well I am off to the gym tonight for a hours brisk walk on the treadmill. I am still feeling very much motivated and people are saying that you can tell that you have lost weight. I think they are just saying that though to make me feel good, i dont think anyone can see a difference in 4 days, anyway i will keep trudging along going at my own pace

Hi cassie!

I've found that people are quick 2 offer me stuff to eat now that they know that i'm on a diet! & i'm thinking - SABOTAGE!!!

BTW were u referring to the cricket match?

hey cassie you just keep going. people used to offer me food all the time in my first month..then they finally stopped hehe.
and get yourself a manicure once you won't be able to bite the nails hehe they're just too strong lol
anyway, have a great day! :D

no the football :) turns out they played quite well so the nails survived LOL!

Lena

thanks for the motivation :)

people keep asking me then when i say no they say oh good i was just testing you LOL

i dont need testing he he he

Hi cassie!

Some people just don't give up with a simple NO. I have some very aggressive people around me. I sometimes resort to telling them that i have a serious medical condition & then they back of. How sad is that!!!

yea you definitely don't need testing. and what i noticed is that people really wanna sabotage you...don't let them. i even found my mom didn't understand what it is i'm really doing, she says she's supporting me and then makes one of my favorite cakes the next day hehe...now i talked some sense into her lol

the thing is, situations like that will always happen...this is why it is important to change our relationship with food, and not just diet...its a process, and it will make us stronger.

have a great weekend
Lena

Hey, I'm a bit late in this, but welcome to the forum! I just joined a couple weeks ago myself. I'm the same weight and I went to get to around the same weight as you (mine's just a bit higher, heh... I need to see what I'm like at around 135 and then see if I need to lose some more or not).

Anyways, I do agree with what everyone's saying. I've had people offer me food or whatnot. My bf's sister always asks me to drink with her, I just look at drinking like liquid calories, I don't need it.

Good luck with your weight loss!

I liked what u said Lena-'bout "relationship" with food. all these years i gave it too much importance. It was the centre of my being. the solution, answer to everything. It is taking some (read lot) effort to think beyond it & live a life. When i read posts like yours, it helps in edging me forward. Thanks!

well i found myself getting obsessed with food i was constantly thinking what my next meal would be :( i treated myself yesterday by having a happy meal, usually when i go to Mcdonalds i would have a large meal with nuggets and an extra hamburger LOL!
I was looking after my nephew who is very selective with his food and will only eat plain hamburgers when out so we took him in Mcdonalds... i feel slightly guilty but other than that my day was completely on my diet.. I am eager to jump on the scales but i am stopping myself only another 8 days then i can see how much i have lost

Other than the slight set back i feel 100% better and healthier, i know there is a long way to go and i am only in my first week but i feel so positive about shitfting the weight it is acting as a great motivation... the temptation over Easter will be hard but i have warned everyone to not get me eggs LOL!

hey cassie! minor setbacks are the fun of challenges! overcoming them makes the success so much more worthwhile. Anyway u jumped back on the wagon. Way to go girl!!!

You've done a great job so far! I don't think it's bad to have a treat every now and again (I had pizza last night after weeks of good eating) but I don't think restricting my fav foods for the rest of my life would work very well. So every once in a while I'll treat myself to something I've been craving. But I don't do it often, I'm not making it into a habit, so I'm not worried. I'm just proud of you for not getting what you normally would have! That's just awesome! Think of it in that way, yes you ate a burger, but you didn't revert to your old ways of a large meal, nuggest and an extra burger, to me that just shows your strength and motivation!

I certainly still feel very motivated, i was a little low yesterday because of uni work and other things i just hope that i get a good result at my weigh in next monday, i have purposely avoided the scales for a week i cant wait to knock a few notches off my ticker LOL!! It would be excellent if it said 30 something to go rather than 40 :)

Glad you're still feeling motivated. Keep up the good work and the pounds will come off!
