Hi everyone!
I'm a 27 year old woman from Canada. 5'5 and 167 pounds.
I started my weightloss journey about 2 months ago at 182 pounds.
My goal weight is 135, and I'd like to reach it by Jan 2011.
So.. that leaves me a fabulous 32 pounds to go. Whoop whoop!

I'm using an Iphone app called Lose It to count calories. I've set it to lose 1.5 pounds a week, which leaves me at about 1400cal/day. If I exercise I add the calories burned so I eat more (I very much love food!).

Today is a big day, I'm joining a new gym and I thought it would a fun time to try an online blog to make myself further accountable, as well as to get imput from you guys!

I'm losing weight because I plan on applying to the RCMP (canada's FBI of sortes) in the next few months and want to be in enough shape to not only pass the inital fitness test, but survive the 6 months of training that will follow. This means that its not just about weightloss for me, I also need to increase my physical endurance and strenght.

The biggest obstacles I face are
-cold canadian winters make me grumpy and lazy. I've worked out through them before but its much harder to stay motivated.
-my family loves to eat out at restraunts. This makes calorie counting difficult, and portion control harder.
-I am a flight attendant and have the luxury of going on a lot of vacations each year. Keeping myself on track when I'm surrounded by friends and family stuffing their faces is also a challenge.

Regardless.. keep tuned while I kick this diets butt!!!

cheers
Amy

Hi Amy! Welcome to the forum! We have very similar starting points and goals! I'm 5'4" and I started at 175. I want to get down to 125ish by January 1, 2011! So far, I've lost 9 lbs and am down to 166 now! So we're like the same weight :p Awesome job on the weight loss so far! Looking forward to hearing about your progress in the coming months!

Xo,
Kara

Day 1 @ gym

I signed up at my new gym. Its a really fancy one about a 35 minute bike ride from my house.
I took the bootcamp circuit class today, which kicked my butt! We were only 3 people in the class so it was a bit like having a personal trainer.

Everyone is really nice there and I'm pretty excited to try the other classes they offer.

Calorie count is on track for the day, with some delish sushi for lunch and a swiss chard-portabella mushroom stirfry for dinner..

and enough calories left to have me a nightcap. Yes its a Tuesday. Don't judge. :blush5:

QUESTION:
What are your favorite fitness classes?

Hi Amy!

I am also from Canada, 5"3 and Around 170 right now and I am planning to go between 135 to 125 depending on how I look and feel!! I know what you mean about the cold winters I hate them but we live in Canada so what can you do!!! I think it's great that you are also working toward better fitness not just weight loss!!! I am at the point where I want that too I have two little kids to run after and so far they are kicking my butt big time!!! I am looking forward to seeing your progress, and when winter comes we can bitch about it together I am about 1 to 1.5 outside of West of Montreal so we basically have the same weather.

The bootcamp sounds fun.. I am not presently following any clases no gyms around me but I am planning on stocking up on DVD's so I never get bored with my workouts! Good Luck and Welcome to the Forum!!!

QUESTION:
What are your favorite fitness classes?

Hi Amy, welcome to the forum! I am also 27 and from Canada although in a couple weeks I will be 28. I'm aiming to get to 135 too however my shorter goal is 140 and I'm having a tough time getting there. I started on this forum about a year ago around 170 something I think and today I was 148 so I'm moving in the right direction however it's very slow because I love food too!!!
I love the gym classes too and lately I am really enjoying spinning. I also love kettle bell although it kicks my butt and I haven't been going as much as I'd like. I find it easier to stick to a healthy lifestyle in the winter because there isn't as much going on so it's easier to spend the evening in the gym and also not as many parties so food temptations are not as bad.
Looking forward to reading more. My journal is titled "Here comes the bride..one month to go" although now it's only 10 sleeps!!
Keep it up and take care!!!

I agree with ChubbyGirl! I love love love Spinning!:beating: I only wish I could afford to go to a gym with classes. I use the free one at work...

Amy, my journal is called Hope for the Hopeless... I've been neglecting it the last few days. I'll have to update it today after work. I just popped on here for a little 5 minute break!

Hope everyone is having a good day! :)

Kettle bell eh? I've never tried that.. spinning however kicks my pathetic quads!

Have an amazing wedding!!!!

Well alright folks!
I'm back from three days of flying around Canada.
I'm glad to report I stuck to the 'Lose it' prescribed calorie max despite having a strong desire to stress eat after a flight to Montigo Bay and back (I love my job, but sometimes I just want to shake people, just because you yell at me does not mean I'll give you free stuff).
I had short overnights in Toronto so no gym time, but after getting back into Montreal this morning I headed off to my new gym downtown and got my butt kicked in a class apptly titled Sweatshop.
A quick lunch at Liquid Nutrition (banana-protein shake) and now a wonderful lazy Saturday off.

Have a great weekend everyone!

I'm on a plane now commuting in to work, thought I'd do a quick update while on the ground in Toronto.
Went out to dinner with the parents yesterday and avoided diet catastrophe by taking half of my seafood pasta to go. Dad commented on my self control, indeed... That pasta was really good! Did a weigh in this morning and am now down to 165.2pds!

This morning I got up early and went to my fantastical gym of awesomeness to do a 90 min Hathaway yoga class. While the class was not strenuous it felt soo good to stretch out all my tired muscles.
It felt like a reward for a good week of exercise.

Dinner tonight is leftover pasta, the other flight attendants are jelous.

This week has been a bit rough. I only had two days off in Montreal, both of which I was unable to get to the gym for family reasons. My grandmother, who has been suffering from Alzheimers for the last 10 years, had a stroke and it isn't looking too good. Between visiting her, and spending time with my family I've been pretty swamped.

I have however stuck to my diet, with the exception of yesterday when we at at an amazing italian resteraunt. I finished my day at about 1700cal. I figure thats not too bad for a day of emotional eating, besides the fact that dammit.. I deserve some spaghetti Putanesca.

Wait, I also blew my diet on tuesday when I had an overnight in Barbados. I behaved exceptionally well at the fishfry, eating about a quarter of the mound of food they sold me. And found out the next day that my captain's fridge didn't work so my leftover food spoiled(or he ate it.. either way, not on my waist). The rest of the crew went to 'The Gap' which is bar central in Barbados and well... i had more than a few liquid calories. I'd like to say I know how much I drank.. but at some point I thought It would be a fabulous idea to order doubles of gin. WHY JEN WHY? I tried to guesstimate and think I hit about 2100cal. Drunk jen still ordered calorie free diet coke and club soda as mixers.

Off to work again tomorrow unless I can get rid of the shift.
Going to the gym today to do some muscle work.

Hey peoples!
I've plateaued a bit this week.. holding on to my 165pds. But I'm confident that if I stop having my cheat days (ie, italian pasta saturday, poutine sunday) I'll get past this.

Yesterday I went at 7:30 am to my first Cross-Fit class. Its 'exercise of the day' was pushups/burpeys for 20 minutes. Wow, let me tell you, my body hurts today!
After I meandered home then went to ultimate frisbee at 7:30pm. Our team won, we had a blast.

Unfortunately I came home to find that somebody had stolden my bike. Montreal is the bike theft capital of North America. I figured that buy buying a cheep, beaten up bike I would entice less crooks.. but well didn't work. I guess I'm back to Rollerblades. I am hesitant to buy a new bike because I dont have a garage in my building.. so it would just be locked up again outside.

Today I woke up with every intention to go to 'Buns of Steel' class. Then realized the class description involved lunges.. tested my thighs and decided I'd rather not. I'm going to try Pilates tonight I think.

EDIT: Pilates was fun, and much easier than any pilates class i've taken before. Generally I'm the only schmuck who can't do a full situp, nevermind any of the fancy stuff... this class was composed of much easier moves, and much fewer reps. It remains to be seen if it worked me out much or not. I guess I'll find out in the morning if my abs hurt!

Just finish catching up on your diary you are one busy lady!!!! Wow your job sounds fun but totally exausting and I don't know how you can deal with some of the customers!!! I don't get why people think they can yell at someone cause they are a paying customer. I have been craving poutine all week and the snack shack beside my work as the best (of course they use their own cheese curds and they are the best) but I have been able to resist! Good job on fitting some time for working out....I am still strugling witht that myself! Sorry to hear about your Grand Mother,,,,I hope your familly is doing ok!

Thanks! Grandma is kind of the same. We are worried about where to place her since the hospital want to boot her out but her home is not equiped to feed her through a tube. It will work itself out, but its hard on my dad.

So last week started off with a bang and ended with some beer. I ended up going to gym classes saturday-Friday inclusive. After behaving myself all week I then went up to a cabin with 13 of my friends and we partied like rockstars. We are all too old for this, ranging from 26-40.. we got four noise complaints from neighbours, a black eye, a knee to the groin... and just basically acted like idiots. I had a blast. I tried to stay healthy, but mixing vodka and diet-soda isn't exactly worthy of praise.
Aaaanyway, I then came back and played a game of frisbee monday. Today I started the day off with a weighin (down to 163.4!!!) and went to a crossfit class. The class was brutal. We did burpees and squats for 40 minutes non-stop. I. HURT. After I spent the afternoon with a friend trying to copy So you think you can dance choreography for his video blog. Good exercise day, good food day.

Breakfast: Cereal 240cal
Lunch: Corean soup 900cal broken up into two meals.(yikes)
Dinner Pasta 500 cal.

Exercise: 610 cal

Hello folks!
Wednesday was a brutal day at work. Cranky business men, a bitchy co-worker, powertripping security guards and baby puke all made for 'one of those days'... At the end of my day I was in my hotel room. Normally I would have ordered some room service, and a few glasses of wine and pigged out. I didn't! I called my parents and vented, at the end of which I actually felt better.. parents are good that way. It didn't occur to me until the next morning that I actually accomplished something. It wasn't a battle to avoid room service, it didnt even cross my mind. I AVOIDED EMOTIONAL EATING!

I need to re-focus. Its been 4 months of my new eating plan and though I haven't really plateaued yet (down to 161.6pds!) I am getting lazy with the calorie counting. After months of repeating "slow and steady wins the race" I'm finally starting to see a change in my body.. and I can't get lazy now. I'm almost half way to my goal. 21pds down 26 to go. SO I'm going to focus and make it happen.

I will:
-Go to the gym every day that I'm in Montreal. No excuses. Days that I'm too sore to go to crossfit I will do Cardio or Yoga.
-Have no more than 1 glass of wine when dinning with family.
-No more party nights with the frisbee team until Halloween.
-Stay in the green zone on my LoseIt app. No more cheat days.

Did Crossfit at 7:30am this morning. Woke up at 6 on my day off.. crazy. Feel awsome!

Tomorrow: BIG DAY!!! Going to write my RCMP police aptitude test. Its a test that can be taken max 1/year. I need an 85% to be considered a strong applicant. Nervous! Wish me luck!

Hey folks! I've been a terrible person... 8 days since the last post. I worked 6 days straight at work, and both days I overnighted in St-John's Newfoundland were diet donts.

For those of you not familiar with Canada's little rock its full of the nicest people in Canada, and alot of fried food and beer. George's street is a quaint little area populated by bars and only bars. Any day of the week you can find great fish and chips, amazing micro-brewery beer and good ol fashioned maritime music.
On day two and 4 of my ubershift I found myself on said rock and both days blew the diet big time. Think beer and fried food and pasta.
Thus, while I managed to squeez in two crossfit classes, two hotel gym workouts and one cardio at my gym.. I only lost 0.6 pounds in 8 days. Still its a loss. Thats how I'm looking at it. So I'm down to 161 as of this morning. TWO POUNDS UNTIL THE 150'S club!!!!!

I re-commit to my above three goals. LOL.

Have a great week folks! Hope you're enjoying the heat wave out east as much as I am!!

Well, sorry for the lack of postage again. Last Tuesday my Grandma passed away. It was a bit of a busy time for me. Family came from out of town, we had 3 days of funeral and a few days of taking care of loose ends. I have missed her for years since she had alzheimers, so this is a peaceful end. She was one fun loving lady.

After a week of funeral activities I had a week of work. Came back yesterday and weighed in at 158.4. Yeah!!! Broke into the 150's!!!

I'm a bit worried about my progress for the rest of this month because I have zero time to go to my usual gym class. I work for the next 4 days, have a day of play rehursal, two precious days to work out and then 10 days of all you can eat Disney Maddness (we are going to WDW Florida and have the delux dinning plan). Wish me luck.

Bought a pair of size 7 pants today. Say wah?!!!

Hey everyone!
I have been gone for a while.. VACATIONING! Myself and 7 other friends went to Disney for 6 nights. We did the Delux dinning plan which means every day we had 2 meals included in our ticket price. These included 1 appy, 1 main course, 1 desert and a drink. Not to mention 2 snack credits a day... it was brutal on my diet.
While its not that hard avoiding crappy food and fast food anymore, the dinning plan lets us eat at the best resteraunts... how can a girl say no to lobster, tuna tartar, cheesecake... ugh.
I did my best to not finish every plate, not order desert every time, not order fried and TRY and order a healthy option... but I came back 3 pounds heavier. It was an amazing week though, and honestly I can't imagine having NOT tried what I got to eat. So my first week back I've re-commited with a vengance and managed to lose 2 of those pounds. YAY!

I did a Vegas overnight this week with work and stuck to my diet, not drinking too much and counting calories. I've got another vegas coming up this week and will try to do the same, though Mario Batalli has a resteraunt in the Venitian which I plan on trying.

Cheers yal.
Jen

159pds.
Goal 135.
