Here are the answers to the "stock" questions:
-- How much weight do you want to lose?
*From my starting weight of 239.8, to my goal of 145, I need to lose 94.8 lbs.

-- What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight?
*I would like to do it healthily, without stressing myself out completely. I just want to do it!

-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)?
*I am going to Professional Weight Management, where I have a counselor and a dietician. They help me with my menus, my exercise, give me support, etc. They take my measurements every 4 weeks, and do a body comp. analysis every twenty lbs. I am eating according to plan and exercising 4 days a week.

-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal?
*My husband is the biggest help. He agreed to eat whatever I cooked, take long walks with me and be my cheerleader. (He also agreed he could take off 30 lbs for his own health!) My counselor and dietician are a huge help, also.

-- How realistic is your goal?
*I think it is VERY realistic. I am not wanting to lose too much or too fast. I am only 5'1", so my original goal was to be 115-125, but my body comp analysis showed my lean body mass (just bone, organs and muscle) is 129 all by itself. I cannot healthily weigh what the chart says I should! 145 would be a healthy body fat percentage for me.

-- When will you start?
*I started on May 19th. That was my first appointment at Professional Weight Management. I go weekly for my weigh in. I am on week 6, and so far only gained 1 week (when I was away on vacation.). I am only down 6.4 lbs., but I have lost 16.25 combined inches!

I was a tiny child...until 2nd grade. Then I got chunky. I stayed chunky. In college I went from chunky to fat. After marriage, I went from fat to obese.

It's time to reverse the cycle!!!

I don't need to be tiny again, just normal sized. I want to not wear plus sizes. I want to look cute. I want to not need insulin resistance medication.

So far, I am doing okay, as long as I am at home and work. When I went on vacation, and when I went to my family reunion, I had a very hard time staying on track.

My husband and I are walking 1-2 hrs 3-4 times a week. I enjoy the exercise, but even more...I love the company. It is a perfect time to hold hands, talk, plan, dream, reconnect. It has been the biggest benefit to my diet so far. I have not lost a ton of weight, but I have spent a lot of time with my amazing man. That is worth every bit of effort.

I am a teacher, so I am about to be out for 6 weeks. That will be great. I plan on using my bonus check for a treadmill. That way when my husband works nights, I don't skip walking. (He won't let me walk alone.)

All in all, I am committed and feeling good about my progress.

My weigh in's so far were:
5-19-07: 239.8
5-26-07: 236.2
6-1-07: 237.8
6-8-07: 235.2
6-15-07: 233.6
6-21-07: 233.2

My measurements, first on 5-19-07, then on 6-15-07:

neck: 15 14.75 (-.25)
shoulders: 49.5 46.75 (-2.75)
bust: 48.5 47 (-1.5)
bicep: 16 16 (0)
ribs: 44 43 (-1)
upper abdomen: 47.5 43 (-4.5)
waist: 45.25 42.5 (-2.75)
lower abdomen: 51.25 50 (-1.25)
hips: 51 50 (-1)
thigh: 22.5 21.5 (-1)
calf: 18.5 18.5 (0)
ankle: 10 9.75 (-.25)
total: 419 402.75 (-16.25)

Okay, so every time I have gone for a walk this week I have gotten a headache. Grr. I think I am walking when it is too hot. I need to go later in the evening.

I am eating alright, and getting all my water in. I really want to be down when I weigh on Saturday. More than .4 lbs like last week, anyway.

I get to buy my treadmill soon. That will help a lot.

You are off to a great start. I too just want to be normal sized and not wear plus size clothing. Its a really hard and long journey but it looks like you have an amazing partner to help you along. Don't downplay the pounds you have lost already any pound lost is an accomplishment to be proud of and your total inches lost is also an amazing number.

Thanks for the encouragement!

I weigh in tomorrow. (I weigh every morning on my scale, but only officially once a week on the scale at Professional Weight Management.) As of this morning, I was down 1.5 from last week...we will see tomorrow.

I swam for two hours today, not hard, but at least I was moving! I planned on walking this evening, but an hour ago the torrential downpours began, so that may be out of the plan. This is where the treadmill will come in really handy!!

It has been a good week! I got my bonus check, and promptly spent most of it! (That was the plan. The whole reason I taught summer school was for the extra check to buy several big-ticket items we cannot fit into our normal budget.) I bought a couch, it is incredibly comfortable. It comes next thursday...I can only hope I am able to get off it long enough to exercise! I bought my treadmill, it comes in 8-10 days. I bought a replacement wedding ring (I lost mine a few months ago :( .) The new ring is gorgeous, however. It has sapphires and diamonds in white gold, with a white gold shadow band. It will be here next friday (had to resize it!) I also bought my sweet man a bike. He wants to bike the 8 miles to and from school for exercise and gas benefits, but sheesh, bikes are expensive!! So, that was my gift to him from my bonus.

It was a lot to spend so quickly, but all for good causes!

Next week I go away to a friends for a few days, but I am going to try my best to stay on track. I am even taking my scale, so I cannot run from my choices!

I changed my mind...I switched my treadmill order to an elliptical.
I think I will like that better.

I went and picked up my elliptical today! I was not strong enough to pick up the box, so I opened the box in my car and carried it down to my apartment a few pieces at a time. The good news is that after taking 9 trips up and down the stair to get each piece...I have already worked out for the day, without it even being put together!! Of course, I will have to try it just to see how it works once it is together this afternoon!

I weighed in today and am down another 1.6 lbs. Not as much as I wanted, but it is still a loss!

After two hours, the elliptical is almost together, just need to add the arms and the console. I guess I fancy myself Superwoman, because I thought I could easily put the thing together by myself. It has been hard!!!!!

And after doing the stairs over and over today to get all the parts to my apartment, my tush really hurts!

i am taking a break for 1/2 an hour and then I will get it finished. But I am going to wait until tomorrow to use it, I have done enough today!

I am back from vacation. I had a good time. I went to my weigh in today and was down another 1.6 pounds! It is kind of funny that at all my weigh ins I have lost something.6. 1.6, 2.6, 3.6...even the one time I gained it was 2.6...very strange!

My couch could not fit into my apartment, so I asked for a refund and I am off to shop again.

My ring was resized wrong (2 whole sizes off), so it was sent back again.

It has not been a very good two days since I got back. I hope it turns around soon!

Well, I am now almost 10 lbs. down and starting to see a bit of difference. I do know I need to cook at home more. I have been letting my husband "pick something up" far too often lately! I always try for the healthiest option wherever he goes, but it isn't good enough and I know it.

So tonight, I am making turkey meatloaf and cauliflower. A step in the right direction.

I think I need to just say no eating out for the next week to get back in the habit of cooking. I was doing so well, but the last week or two, I have only cooked about 4 times. It did not help that we were out of town for several days, either.

I worked out on my new elliptical last night, which was more rewarding than I thought it would be.

I have come to a conclusion...I really wish I could weigh in nekkid at the dietician!!!!

I weighed before clothes and after clothes today and there is a 3.5 lb difference in the 2! Dangit. I am doing better than it looks on all my charts. I am sure they know clothes make a difference, but I wish they had thin little robes or something we could weigh in, rather than our clothes.

I also wish they did not do my measurements over my clothes. I know my jeans added bulk the first time they took them. And now, if I wear thinner material, it looks like I have lost more than I really have. Grr.

Either way, I am out of the 230's now!!! That is so exciting!

Is it bad that I am now contemplating weighing in all my different outfits and wearing the one that weighs the least to all my dietician appointments?:rotflmao:

I finally decided that since I seem to be sticking around here, I should give myself an avatar.

It took awhile to get one resized, but I finally did it! I am feeling proud and accomplished!

Anyway...that's me...only I usually have paler skin, less freckles and bluer eyes. But I got burnt on a summer school field trip (I am a teacher) and all my freckles came out of the woodwork! Truth be told, I kind of like them. And my eyes have been green for the past week or so, they are typically blue. (They have always changed blue, green and grey, but are blue about 90% of the time...until now...apparently they like green!)

Hi Amba,

Congrats on your 10 pound loss! You are making some wonderful changes in your life. I eat out way too much too... its just so much easier at the end of the day to just pick something up. I'm sorry your purchases did not work out as well as you would have liked at first... that could be quite disappointing.

Cloths are the reason I hate weighing in at the gym. I know I weigh less without them. I think the elliptical was a great purchase... I always feel like I get a much better workout on the elliptical. Keep working hard.

Ambalove you are on a great journey, very admirable. :D

I think its a great idea, the way you're recording all your measurements too, i think its something that escapes me quite often, the fact that i wont just be losing weight, but i'll be getting smaller!

Where around each bit do you measure? I would like to do similarly...

I don't actually measure myself, my dietician does it every 4 weeks.
But I think rule of thumb is to measure around the biggest part of the place you are measuring (calf, bicep, etc.), except waist, and that's at the smallest place on your torso.

Hiya

Your doing really well with your loss and how good were you on vacation only putting on 1lb? i am normally way more than that!
Your loss in measurements is huge as well you must be feeling those loose clothes now?

Sarah

Yeah, it was a 1.6 lb. gain...but I was staying at a Bed and Breakfast with my husband and the food was amazing!!
Plus we went to an amusement park, where there were no healthy options...but still, I have only lost since then!
My clothes are a little loose, but not too much. I've lost a lot of total inches, but not too much from anyone area.

Well...my eating has been fabulous today. Wanna hear my secret? I stayed in bed until 1 pm! Yep, really cuts back those calories!:rotflmao:

Okay, I know it isn't a good thing. It also cuts back the movement. But hey, everyone deserves a lie in occasionally!

So I got up, showered, dressed and ate some Nutrisystem Fettucini Alfredo with added diced chicken. I do not actually do the Nutrisystem Diet, but I keep a few of their instant entree's on hand for when I am not motivated to do any cooking and know that otherwise, I would make a bad choice. Helps keep me in line!

Now I am at a loss as for what to do. I was supposed to swim today, but it is POURING outside! So I guess it is elliptical, yoga, pilates or tae-bo day. But, dangit, I just bought the cutest new swimdress and was looking forward to wearing it.
