am i over training?

how do i know when your over training? i know my diet sucks pretty bad am im trying to improve it, but currently i work out mon-fri and have sat and sun off. this is what i do shortly

Mon + Thurs = Chest/Biceps
Tues + Fri = Back/Triceps
Weds = Legs

I'm 6' 196 and im 19. Im just wondering because i see progress but i dont know if its alot of progress or not, kinda hard to figure out since i got some extra fat on me. For a few weeks ive been stuck at 140 pounds at my bench press so i dunno.

I would say yes because your split doesn't allow enough rest for the groups your working. You have triceps the day after working chest, awful idea, you work and use your triceps in chest exercises (presses), therefore you are doing quite a bit of harm. Same thing with biceps and back exercises.

You have the right idea with the 48 hour break between different muscle groups, but as AJP says you are training two similar areas on back-to-back days so it may be a good idea to reshuffle your programme.

Or you could just do what I do, which is to exercise ALL muscle areas in one session every 48 hours.

If you don't let muscle recover, you are overtraining and could cause yourself an injury. Take every-other-day off, and get plenty of proteins for muscle growth and maintenance.

yeah, a 3way split spread out in 5 days is a lot of working out and very little rest. I would suggest first of all changing your split to chest/tri and back/bi since they kinda go hand in hand. All your major chest exercises are working your triceps too and the same goes for back and biceps.

so essentially what you are doing is working out your triceps and biceps on Mon,Tue,Thu,Fri. Thats definately overtraining. Try that for a while and you should definately see improvements.

I would group Chest and triceps together, and Back and biceps together.
As for overtraining it depends on how much you are doing each day. For me one sign of overtraining is a lack of energy and sluggishness.
The main thing is make sure you get 3-4 days of rest between training each muscle group.

it depends...you dont always need 3-4 days between training each muscle group depending on how hard you train it. you do always need 48 hours though.
