Am i eating wrong?

Hey, so far im trying to lose weight and gain muscle and I seem to read completely different things to one another. If you want to lose weight do cardio and eat around 1500 calories a day but if you want to pack on muscle you need the calories. So what do i do if i want to mix both of them together? My daily diet is:

Breakfast
Cereal with semi skinned milk, glass of water and a whey protein drink (taken roughly an hour or so after breakfast)

Lunch
Chicken sandwich on wholewheat bread

Dinner
Pork with Jack Potatoes

Protein drink is taken before bed and sometimes in mid day as well depending what i have for lunch. All this is working with a cardio and weight routine, just wondering if thats roughly right? I know i should eat more meals but was hoping the protein drinks are an ok replacement as i want to lose weight?

Thanks
Ash

You are in a similar boat to what my current goals are. Since different techniques work for different people you really need to find what works for you. Most people will recommend that you gain muscle then cut in different phases, since as you pointed out you need the calories to put on the mass.

Start with the basics eat 6-8 meals a day to get the metabo running non-stop.

Drink a gallon of water a day.

Take a multi-vitamin (good quality).

An approach which you can try for the first couple months to see if it will work at the start for you, is to eat a very clean amount of calories in the range of (lean mass X 13 +500). Since you are at the beginning of your weight/fitness lifecycle you will see a lot of changes quickly (first 3 months will be amazing) if you stick to your guns. With a solid free weight program and a very clean diet with enough calories, you may get some of the results you want in both catagories. Once your body adapts and has made the initial changes, I would follow the standard of a bulk phase then a cutting phase.

Get your muscle mass up then with the aid of the extra calorie burn from more muscle cut the calories down (healthy) and lose some body fat.

no, but you are posting in the wrong forum. there are no less than 5 forums here that are a better match for your question than the weight training forum.
