Alternative to Running/Cycling?

Hi,
I'm trying to lose the body fat around my middle after four years of the student lifestyle. I have been running four miles three times a week and that seems to have brought it down.

The problem with where I live (Manchester, UK) is that it is bloody dangerous and once I get a job, running in the dark after work is not an option. Are there any alternative exercises such as weight lifting that can achieve the same amount of calorie burning? Especially if it can be done at home (have you seen the prices of gym membership around here?). Any help would be useful.

What does your diet look like? You can use a shorter rest time in between sets in order to get your HR up however I don't reccommend doing this every session.

jumping jacks and jumping rope are two totally different things...

jumping rope is a full mind and body workout,,, the state of readiness in jumping rope is what kills. I can do jumping jacks for ---- hmmmm, I wonder how long!!!! (hey doc-- are you reading this--hehehehe)

Let's just say way WAY longer than I can jump rope.

If you are seriouys, keep coming aroudn and we can play 'fitness/endurance challenges." Such as in place cartwheels... try 25 left and 25 right...

you can get yer sweat on... thinkl beyond traditional...
