Alternate Forms of Cardio...

Hey guys, in the past two months or so my knees have really started giving me pain when doing certain activities. I'm making an appointment to get them checked out soon, but are there any non leg-intensive forms of cardio that I could do in the meantime? I'm about to go to the gym, so im going to try cycling and see if the no-impact will help avoid the pain, but if it doesnt i might need some ideas. Thanks, AP.

good idea, forgot about that one =P I have always loved swimming, but since the beginning of HS (im done with 2 years of college now) i've been extremely self concious about it. Even now i'm not super overweight, but I still have a hard time taking my shirt off

Fast walking, with a 5 pound weight in each hand might be less jarring to your knees. Other than that, yeah, most cardio does seem to involve the legs a lot!!!

Come on dougb we talk about holding weight in hand while moving all the time here. Its very bad on the joints. Specifically the shoulder here. Let me say it again, Holding little weights while you walk, power walk, jog, bike or any other form of movement is (AGAIN) one of the leading causes of (im so sick of this word) orthopedic surgery!
Lol

are you able to walk on the treadmill? setting to max incline can get the heartrate moving pretty good.

and yeah, no weights...i've read numerous books that say bad things about hand/ankle weights.
