alright....gonna try this

I haven't checked in for a while but the weight loss continues!

Hit the scale today at 231 for a total loss of 23 pounds. I was really suprised as I have not been using the calorie counting software for about 2 weeks and thought I was overeating but maybe I have a much better handle on prtion sizes now. That is SWEET!

I am gonna refocus today and see if I can ramp it up a bit but the good news is I am still going in the right direction....just a little slower than I had hoped.

Peace

Mikey

Another weigh in and 2 more pounds lost!

I went under the 230 pound mark for probably the first time in 4 years. Went to the gym Saturday and ran 4 miles on the treadmill and also did a weigh in before running. Scale was at 229 for a total of 25 pounds down.

I am getting close to needing to get some new clothes or at least have some pants taken in. Seems like a lot more people noticing my weight loss which is cool.

I am working out a lot more now that I can get out on my bike in the morning before work. I am generally getting 3 or 4 bike rides and one run in per week right now. My next goal is another 5 pounds by August 1st. That may be tough but that would put me at 30 pounds lost since the start of the year.

It has been a while since I last posted but thought I would stick an update out here.

Went to the gym today and weighed in at 228 for another pound lost since last time I posted here. It is not a big chunk of weight but I am still heading the right direction and have now lost 26 pounds since the start of the year. I picked up a 25 pound dumbell today and it felt good to know that is how much I have lost.

Probably the best thing is I have definitely not been tracking calories like I was when I first started but am still losing. I think I have kind of retrained myself to eat smaller portions which is great. Still riding the bike a lot so that is helping too.

I think I may try to buckle down a little harder for a few weeks and see if I can get to the 30 pounds lost mark in a few weeks. That would be awesome.

Peace

I weighed in Saturday and am still losing weight. Was down to 225.5 for a total amount lost of 28.5 pounds!

I am getting more motivated now that I am able to do this without tracking every calorie I eat. I really think I have somewhat retrained myself to eat smaller portions. I think I will buckle down and use the calorie tracking tool for a while to see if I can get down to the 36 pounds lost mark in the next few months. That will put me back at the wieght I was 5 years ago when I last raced bikes.

I have a few shirts that look way too big on me now and I went shopping the other day and had to buy some shirts that were smaller in size than I have had to buy. That was cool. I am getting real close to have to have some dress pants and sport coats taken in. The pants are bunching up around my waist now as there is too much fabric.

Keep it up everyone!

Peace,

Mikey

Time for my next update and it is a good one. Weighed in at the gym today at 224 for a total loss of 30 pounds in the last 8 months. WooHoo! 6 more pounds and I will be at the weight I was 6 years ago when I was last racing bikes.

I am not losing at a super fast pace but it is working for me. I am simply trying to eat much less than I used to and be more consistent with exercise. Ran 3 miles on the treadmill today and will ride the bike tomorrow. I don't track calores as diligently as I used to in Fitday but I am paying much more attention to meal portions.

I have three belts that I am on the last notch and two sport coats that look huge on me. Gonna take them to the tailor next week to be taken in.

My next clothes shopping trip is going to be fun. I am going to reset my weight loss goal for 10 more pounds by the end of the year. Don't know if I can do it but the trend is going the right way.

Mikey

I am down another pound for a total loss of 31 pounds. WooHoo!!! It has probably been 5 years since I was at this weight. A friend of mine the other day said I look like a different person.

When I started trying to lose weight right after Christmas last year I was hoping I could maybe get down to 225. In the back of my mind I couldn't really picture it when I started but now I am at 223 and want to keep going!

Had 2 sport coats taken in last week as they looked huge on me. Most of my work pants will fall off me without a belt but I am gonna wait to drop a few more pounds before I get new ones. I was used to buying XXL shirts but now am in XLs and a few that are just L.

Now that football season has started I gotta watch the beer intake as I love to knock a few back watchin' games. So far so good though.

I know my progress probably seems slow but it is working for me. I am not dieting but have focused on changing my lifestyle around eating, drinking, and excercising more. The portions I eat are much smaller than before. I still go for a burger and beers about once a week but that was probably 3-4 times per week before.

I will check in again in a few weeks hopefully with more good news!

Peace

Wow. I just read your journal and I gotta say, its definitely got me motivated. Keep up the amazing work! You're doing fantastic!

Swoofie:

Thanks for the encouragement. Keeping this diary is actually pretty cool. I like to look back and read the progress.

Update: still hangin at 223 which I am OK with since I ate out a bunch this past week. I hit the State Fair of Texas this week and had famous Fletcher corny dogs, fried cheesecake, and fried frito pie which is the big deal this year out there. Yeah I know it is horrible to think about how many calories I ate but it is a once a year tradition. Probably walked at least 4 miles while I was out there, and just got back from 3 miles on the treadmill at the gym.

The good thing is after a day like that I can easily just get right back into my new routine of eating right which I have been doing. The other thing that I think is good about the 223 weight this week is I weighed at the end of the day. It seems like I weigh a little more later in the day than in the morning (I know because I have a scale at home I step on a lot but use the gym scale for offical weighing).
i
Next official weigh-in I will try to go in the morning.

Finally some more progress. Hit the scale at 222 for another pound of weight loss! That is 32 pounds dropped since late December 2009. These last couple of pounds have been real hard to drop and taken a while. I have not been as diligent in tracking calories. That is probably a big part of the slow down but I would have thought I would be shedding more quickly.

It would be awesome if I could hit 40 pounds by the end of the year. I guess it is possible but I am gonna have to buckle down on the calorie tracking.

Last night, a friend I haven't seen in a while said I looked like I was wasting away. Love it!!!!! Every pair of pants and jeans I have can fall right off if I dont wear a belt. I am still trying to wait a bit longer to replace them.

Peace,

Mikey

grrrrr......................

I hit the scale today at the gym at 224 for a 2-pound gain since my last weigh-in. I am a little pissed about this but I had a pretty heavy food and drink week last week so I only have myself to blame:banghead:

I still feel like I am at a plateau though so I need to buckle down on the calorie counting I think.

Back on the low cal food thing today. Had a bowl of oatmeal for dinner and hit the treadmill after work. Gonna try to ride my bike in the morning tomorrow too.

Peace

Mikey

Don't worry too much about the gain. It might even just be water weight! Work hard and they'll be gone in no time xxx

More progress to report! :hurray:

I weighed in at the gym today at 221 so I seem to be back on track and on my slow reduction. That is a total of 33 pounds lost. woohoo! I did a 5k on the treadmill and weighed again afterwards and was at 220 but I think I will use 221 as the official number.

I am definitely seeing a lot of fluctuation in my weight right now throughout the day. We bought a bathroom scale a couple of months ago and I step on it 3-5 times per day. I have read where some people do not recommend that, but it seems to have helped me understand the fluctuations in my weight a little better. What I am tending to see is the low end of my range is dropping (even saw 217.5 the other day but without shoes on) and the high end is also dropping so all seems to be well. My Fitday weight log is showing an average weekly weight loss of 0.75 pounds. I know that is not real fast but I feel like what I am doing can be sustainable for the long haul which is the important thing.

I have started a thing where I am eating steel cut oatmeal 4 or 5 times a week for dinner. It is very good for you and it also seems to fill me up with not a lot of calories.

Keep up the good work all!

Peace

whoa...

I didn't realize it had been so long since I checked in here. Well for the last month and a half I have not worked out as much as I would like but I am still doing OK. Feel like my weight went up a bit (maybe in the 223-225 range) but yesterday I weighed in again at 221 which is the same as my last post in October. I guess that means I have done well to maintain at least.

I still seem to be getting a 4-5 pound fluctuation sometimes daily on the scale. For instance, this morning I weighed in at 219 but I am gonna stick with the 221 as official. That is still 33 pounds lost since late last December and I feel real good about it.

I think my goal for the holidays is to get through at the same weight and then try to knock 10-12 more pounds off. Getting to 210 would be a real nice weight for me.

It has been fun buying new clothes lately. I seriously think I have knocked close to 4 inches off my waist size. I put a couple of belts and shirts in the garage sale pile the other night because they are way too big now.

Mikey

Well I am still maintaining 221 as of this morning despite a lot of social committments already this holiday season. Lots of lunches and happy hours over the last couple of weeks which have been tough. I also rolled my ankle pretty bad a few weeks ago and have been limited in my exercise. It is finally starting to feel better so I have been back out on the bike some but not enough.

My one year anniversary of joining this forum and really starting to try to focus on losing some weight is coming up at the end of the month. I will try to check back in with my thoughts then.

Mikey

Happy new year!

I thought I would check in since it has been right around one year since I started my weight loss efforts and I am pleased with the results. Since this time last year I have dropped around 32-33 pounds, a shirt size, and probably 3-4 inches off my waist.

I really probably could have done better but have really just worked on maintaining for the last month or two and that has gone pretty well.

Many people over the past year have commented on my weight loss and that has been motivating as well as reading this board and the many positive stories. Keep 'em coming folks!

As for this year, I am back focused on losing 10-12 more pounds. That will put me around 210 pounds which I think would be a real good weight for me and one I havent seen since probably 1998. I am going to go back to using the fitday calorie tracker on a daily basis and continue a strong workout schedule. I have had to revert to the elliptical trainer for a while since spraining my ankle in November. I am finally feeling like I might be able to get back to running soon and that will help.

Keep up the good work!

Peace

Mikey

Congratulations on losing 33 pounds Mikey. You are doing great stuff and I like your balanced approach to everything - working hard on your exercise and tracking your calories. I like the idea of eating filling oats for dinner to get full because nighttime hunger is my biggest challenge.

I am checking in since I haven't been on in a while. I am still weighing in right at 220.5 and 221 so I feel I have done a great job maintaining what I lost. Looks like I have held relatively steady since back in October. I know I bumped up a bit in January and was hovering around 223 so I guess I am trending back down slightly. I am really wanting to see the scale dip below 220 again soon. My end goal for now is 210 so I dont have much further to go but it has been tough lately to buckle down.
