Alligatorob's Diary

Its late here, just got back to my room and wanted to check in. Today went well, a 310 calorie yogurt/fruit/cereal thing for breakfast, no lunch, a 700 calorie salad for dinner, and one bud lite beer after dinner.

Wedding dinner for family tomorrow with jambalaya and related things, that may be a challenge. My Cajun cousins will be cooking.

You look cold
Not at all, the air was about 30C, once out of the water it wasn't cold.
Anastasia State Park
The park was just a mile down the beach, you can probably see it behind me. Great place. St Augustine is the oldest continuously occupied town in the US. The Spanish were there long before the English set foot in Virginia or New England.
no see um's
Know them all too well, spent many a sleepless night camping on beaches with them. The old tent screens could not keep them out, maybe newer ones are finer. No kind of repellent works very well either.
How was your friends show at the bar? What kind of music?
Different, he calls it left neck, he's a left wing redneck. Here is one he put together for a contest to write a new Florida state song, he lost
The show was great!
It all sounds wonderful
Thanks Cate, so far so good.

You look cold but I'm envious of your access to the sea!
Me tooo!!
I'm in love with sea, and rivers and lakes, and I could swim and be on the beach for whole day!

And I love your vacation OMAD plan! Nice thing to keep things simple and still enjoy food

Enjoy the wedding Rob, I'm delighted you decided to go. They can be fun!

Enjoy a bit of decadence tomorrow with the wedding feast - I have no doubt you'll be back on track when you get home.

Great you are having such a fun time Rob and we look forward to hearing all about the wedding . I make jambalaya at times but I suspect nothing like what you will be having

Love the leftneck music! Send my cheers to your friend. :)

Also, terrific to hear from you, and that you're having a great time! Enjoy the wedding, and it would be a crime to pass up the chance to relish that good Cajun tucker!

I hope you have a blast at the wedding Rob! Try not to stress about food too much while you're there.

The family dinner went alright, I ate and drank a bit more than usual, most of the trip, but probably not more than about 1,300 or 1,400 calories on the day. The biggest thing I ate was a medium sized helping of the jambalaya, just had to do it, my first jambalaya since going on the diet. It was good, a chicken and sausage jambalaya made by my cousin who is getting married. The party was not so wild as I expected, and the wedding today will probably be even a little lower key.

For anyone who doesn't know Cajun is short for Arcadian, they are descended from French driven out of Canada by the English in the later half of the 18th century. They made their way to French Louisiana and settled in the rural bayou country of south Louisiana. My father's family moved from Kentucky to Cajun country in about 1900, all of the men except for my grandfather married Cajuns. My father's only sibling married a Cajun, so all of my living cousins on my father's side are half or more Cajun, but I am not. The cousin getting married, D, is a half Cajun first cousin. In Louisiana half Cajun is close enough, he's Cajun. Cajuns are known for their food, music, and parties, a lot of fun, good to be related to, even if only by marriage.

This is not D's first marriage, and his first was an event to remember. He has always been a black sheep of the family, his first profession was as manager of a particularly seedy stripper bar. And his first wife was one of his Cajun strippers. I have one cousin who's wife still won't talk to D over the happenings at his first bachelor party. And it leaves a lot of fun things to talk about, when the new wife is out of the room anyway. Like how much to tip your cousin's wife for a lap dance, do you get a family discount? Anyway D has done a turnabout, he went back to school and got his nursing degree, and the new wife is a Methodist minister. Cajun stripper to Methodism minister is about as far as you can come down here. She is a very nice woman, one who will be much better for D than his first.

So am I, growing up I was rarely dry and never wore shoes, I can swim in most any thing, though pools are at the bottom of my list.
Enjoy a bit of decadence tomorrow with the wedding feast
Thanks Emily, and I did yesterday, will try and do better today at the reception.

Hey Petal, I am sure your's is good. Its hard to make a bad jambalaya, it is made many different ways, for me the key is cooking the meat, ususally chicken and sausage, with a lot of onions and spices. Then boiling the rice in the cooked chicken and broth letting the rice soak up the chicken flavors (and fat) as it cooks. There is no Cajun translation for the phrase "low calorie".
Looks you're striking the balance between socializing and restriction pretty well!
Thanks LaMa, I am trying, having fun whilst at least keeping calories well below what I would have done last year.
Leftneck isn't a term I've heard before haha
I think Grant made it up, his politics have gotten him banned from a number of places, he is not in the majority in the mostly red, but not left, neck south. It does pretty clearly set him apart from the yankee liberals who are usually the brunt of local disgust. He used to have a bumper sticker than read "Slave States for Bush", I was surprised his car never got burned. He has some new songs that mention our current president, not in a very favorable light.
Rob, your friend's song is hilarious & I love it! I'm saving that.
I agree, Grant is one of my favorites, he has lots of others on Youtube.
Cajun tucker
Now that's a phase I have never heard, thanks Amy, maybe I will try it at the reception this afternoon.
The last wedding I went to was a disaster
I understand, and I rarely go to weddings, but had to make an exception for this one. Thanks!
have a blast at the wedding Rob! Try not to stress about food too much while you're there.
Thanks Cory, I am trying, on both counts.

That´s pretty amazing
She is a very nice woman, one who will be much better for D than his first.
I hope he´ll be a better husband, too. Starting a relationship with an employee, maybe especially when you´re working in adult entertainment, does not say great things about a person.

Hey Rob, that was an awesome video on Fla. He's no amateur, that was good quality music. I have to admit I didn't hate the pics of the Fla. beauties either.

Rob that jambalaya sounds delicious and I can think of a lot unhealthier things to eat . Hope the wedding goes great . All sounds very interesting and colourful . I’m going to have to listen to some of Grant's songs on Mr president I think .

Rob- It really does sound like you are having a wonderful time & keeping to something like 1300-1400 cals? Wow!
I’m going to have to listen to some of Grant's songs on Mr president I think.
I had that same thought. I am glad there are people like your friend, Grant.

It was a good day, ate well and I feel good.

I had a cup of yogurt/fruit/cereal mix for breakfast, at the wedding reception I managed to eat only an apple and 3 small pretzels. I had a 100 calorie jerky snack and for dinner I had a 320 lean cuisine thing they sold at the hotel. Dinner took some resistance, after the wedding reception I got on the road and ended up in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, home of my all time favorite rib place, but I managed with the lean cuisine. The local place Dreamland was made locally famous by Bear Bryant who used to take his Alabama football team there for pregame meals. They only serve ribs by the pound and beer, the sign on the door says "No Salad, No Beans, No Slaw, Don't Ask". Not a great diet place.

Tomorrow I drive to Baton Rouge to continued the Cousin trek, this one on my Mother's side, the non-Cajun rednecks.
I hope he´ll be a better husband, too. Starting a relationship with an employee, maybe especially when you´re working in adult entertainment, does not say great things about a person
I can't argue with you on that. I just met his new wife for the first time this weekend and was very impressed with her, a smart woman, a lot smarter than Cousin D. I also found out she has known him for 30 years, knew his ex and of the strip joint. At first I was almost tempted to ask her is she knew what she was getting into, but it appears to me she probably does. I've always found the word "adult entertainment" strange for that kind of place, I guess it means no kids allowed or something.

Jack, Petal, and Cate I agree with y'all Grant is good and very entertaining. When I saw him last week he sung several new Trump related songs, the only one I could find on youtube is "This Could Be a Long Night", he wrote it shortly after the 2016 election, I am not sure he mentions Trump, but its not hard to figure out the connection. Another of his political songs I like is "The 4th Of July Parade". If you listen to it I think you will be able to understand the ideas, what you probably don't know is how the Civil War and Southern Confederacy remain a part of Southern pride and redneck culture. Being a part of that culture it embarrasses me, but I am very much in the minority. Robert E Lee sure ain't one of my idols. He talks a bit about Sopchoppy, that was the nearest town to my Florida home, I know it well.

As I said before Grant is a brave man, the area we lived in probably went 75% for Trump and is very redneck. He has been banned from a lot of the local establishments.

I have instantly become a fan of Grant. I wonder if he'll ever visit Australia? I never knew I loved left neck music. He's brilliant!
I'm loving hearing about your trip, Rob.

So glad your trip is going so well Rob and you are enjoying the food and the company. Sounds like a lot of fun!

Rob i am in complete awe that you went to a wedding and had an apple and 3 small pretzels. Followed by a lean cuisine. Please try to work out how to bottle that motivation and sell it. I would buy it !
Thanks for the link.

Yes I agree with Petal, you’ve some motivation! It’s inspiring and I would love to have the same, so glad you are having a great time :)
