Alligatorob's Diary

I thought in fourteen hundred and ninety-three, Columbus sailed the deep blue sea? Or perhaps in fourteen hundred and ninety-four, Columbus sailed from shore to shore. Or maybe in fourteen hundred and ninety-five, Columbus made it home alive. Or... (this could go on for some time! :D )

As for
That may take a bit of beer as well.
I guess if duty calls...

Football drinking and eating from about 2 pm until 10 pm. Watched both semifinal games.

Sounds like quite the evening of fun!

I envy you your football team win, Rob. No wonder you celebrated. The team G & I have supported forever has only won one premiership, way back in 1966! Surely, one day.....

Hey Rob,

I heard that LSU crushed the Sooners so I figured I'd drop by to say congrats. Unfortunately, my hometown team didn't fare quite as well....

It was a good day, recovered from the game day party and ate pretty well. And I am feeling good. Dinner was a bit thrown together, my wife is down with a cold and I am eating alone.

Bì Shēng died in 1051, he is one of many credited with the invention of movable type. His system was based on ceramic type. Movable wood block type had been in use in China since at least the 9th century and probably much earlier than that. Printing is considered one of the four great inventions of ancient China. The others being gunpowder, the compass, and paper.

the cooking effects of the wind
TM, I am not sure cooking is wrong. When I was working in Kuwait and Saudi they used to warn us that very high temps, above 50 C combined with high winds could actually heat the body more quickly than without the wind. I was told that is why the locals wear long clothing covering the whole body. I am not sure if its true or not, but 50 C, wind or not is awful. Unfortunately these conditions were all too common there. The hottest I saw was 55 C on my rental car thermometer, not sure it was very well calibrated, but it was damned hot. That was inland in Kuwait, a very hot place.

Amy, you obviously know more about this poem than I!

Yes, someone had to do it. We used to joke that the Mormons were to blame, we had to drink for those who wouldn't.

I hope your day comes, it is a kind of a once in a lifetime thing. Even if LSU doesn't win it the finals it will have been a great year.
heard that LSU crushed the Sooners
Yeah, I wasn't going to use that word, but it is true. LSU scored 7 touchdowns, 49 points in the first half, then eased off a bit pulling some of the first stringers, and still won by what is probably the most lopsided victory in BCS history. It actually made for a kind of boring game, by about half way through the first quarter the outcome was pretty clear. Clemson will likely be more of a challenge.

Makes sense. When outside temp is below (surface) body temp the wind takes away the envelope of air your body has heated so it cools you. When it's well over body temp it takes away the air your body/sweat has cooled.

Rob you certainly got back on track after your football excess but I note it was just the alcohol that got your cals up high. Hope your wife feels better soon. Are you cooking for her too ?

That’s great about your team getting to the final Rob, keep us posted.

I also liked that we moved forward in time a bit, haha.

Spent the morning "reorganizing" my closet, it was fun getting rid of more big clothes. For the first time in many years I can fit everything into the closet without lots of boxes of things too small and stored in hope of one day fitting. Now I have more or less organized sections: things that fit and I am wearing now; things that almost fit but will feel better after a few more pounds; things that are still too small (this section is getting small); and things that are too big, but I like too much to give away right now. I am very lucky to have saved so much, aside from a few dress things I have not had to buy much as my sizes have gone down. I started at 60 to 62 or 5 xl pants, now I am down to 38 to 44 or 1 or 2 xl. I started at 5 and 6 xl shirts and am now down to 2 or 3 xl. Different brands are different sizes.
Are you cooking for her too ?
No, I would if I could but she is a very good cook and very picky, she doesn't eat my cooking. I have tried cooking for her, but she won't touch what I make. Fortunately she is not too sick to forge for herself, I do try to keep the refrigerator stocked with what she likes.
Hey Rob, I just saw you joined this forum just 4 days before me. We’re almost at 12 months!
You are right I looked back and saw that I signed up February 7, 2019, and you signed on February 11. It surprised me, I don't remember signing up, and I did not post anything until May. You on the other hand started posting right away.

Oh, Rob. What a wonderful feeling that must be. You are so determined and persistent. I just read that out to G & he said: "Well done, Rob".

How wonderfully organised you are, Rob! I'm impressed. :) And grrreat that you can definitively say "that's too big for me now, and always will be!"

It was a good day, I ate well and feel good. A busy day, first closet organizing and then plumbing/roof repairs. In the last heavy snow we had a vent pipe sheared off by a snow slide, fortunately the roof wasn't leaking, but it had to get fixed. I had a handyman out today, a guy I know pretty well. He did most of the heavy lifting, climbing around on the steep snowy roof and crawling in the attic to reattach the pipes, but I assisted, holding the ladders passing him tools, getting parts ready etc. It got done, we had to add a couple of snow bars above the new pipe to hopefully take the force out of future snow slides. When it warms up in the spring I will have to get back up and do some good sealing, but no leaks now I think we are good for the rest of the winter.

Thanks for the nice words. Cate and Amy, it did feel good. I have to say I do still have a nagging worry about regaining weight, but my confidence is growing. I don't think that worry will ever go away completely, and maybe its for the best it doesn't. I think I can keep doing this, it feels like I can. Not so much a race to some end as a real change.

Toba Sōjō aka Kakuyū was born in 1053, Toba was a famous Japanese artist-monk proficient in both Buddhist art and satirical cartoon. This is one, the first scroll of Chōjū-giga, I like, although the attribution to Toba is in question.

I think having a nagging worry that you may regain is probably a good thing. It's much better than feeling bullet-proof. I'm confident that you will keep it off, Rob.

Frogs laughing at a tripped rabbit? :D People ARE the same everywhere.
I agree that fear of regaining is probably a good thing but I´m glad to hear this is starting to feel more permanent.

I worry a lot about regaining weight . I never can remember feeling that before so I think it maybe a good thing ?
I don’t like my husbands cooking either Rob nor the mess he inevitably makes and never cleans up . Well done on keeping fridge well stocked

Sounds like a common problem, no matter what continent you are on. I do try to cleanup after myself, but I suppose my clean up standards are not the same as my wife's, probably not the same as you either.

No interesting history I could find, but Joanne's Scribes say:

Angel Number 1081 can suggest that you that if you are considering beginning (or expanding) a spiritually-based practice, career and/or profession, now is a most auspicious time to do so. Have faith that the Universe will assist with any issues that may arise, and listen to the guidance from the angels as to the next steps to take. Trust that you have all the skills, talents and abilities within you that you will need to serve your soul purpose and fulfill your spiritual destiny. Expect success on all levels. The same goes for all heart-based businesses and ventures.

And Olga:

The feeling Olga gets from Angel Number 1081 is contempt, disheartened, and strong and the purpose is summarized in these words: Lose, Redesign, and Uncover.

Must be some sage advice there, if you can figure it out.
