Alligatorob's Diary

It was a good day, not eating as much because of dietary restrictions until my tooth heals, not long. Or that's my excuse anyway for not eating as many calories as planned. But I feel good and the food I did eat was relatively well balanced.

Abu al-Wafa' Buzjani a Persian mathematician and scientist died in 998. He made many mathematical advancements in trigonometry, but may be best known for the first published use of negative numbers. A crater on the moon has been named for him, Crater Abul Wáfa on the far side near the equator.

That is so little food. It makes me feel like an oinker! Yay for Abu al-Wafa Buzjani- smart cookie :)

That is so little food.
I know it is, but the funny thing is that it doesn't seem like I am eating too little. I am not often hungry and not feeling weak or anything. I find myself eating evening snacks I don't really want just to get my calorie count up at the end of the day. This is very odd to me, I cannot think of any other time in my life that I had to force myself to eat. Not that my cravings have gone away, but I am learning those are something different from hunger. I have dieted a lot and when my calorie count got this low in the past it felt like near starvation with hunger (or I think it was hunger) all the time. The only differences I can see is that I eat lots of bulk, veggies and fruit, that's new. And I am getting older of course.

You should not "feel like an oinker", your weight is close to your goal, and I suspect you are healthy at your current weight. Not that you shouldn't keep at it, you should of course, but we are in very different places, I still need to lose over 100 lbs.

Kudos Alligatorob — I so admire your self control. It is inspiring. I read a comment somewhere that the craving only lasts 20 minutes, I’m going to keep this in the back of my mind today and try to not give in.

Certainly does. Differs a little from person to person but overall they don’t last long at all. You just need to push through.

Once I got my body used to few calories I was rarely hungry. I just need to get mine down a bit more. You are doing a really good job, Rob. I shouldn't have called myself "an oinker"(even though I'm feeling like one :blush5: )

Joan of Arc was born in 1412

It just goes to show how well you are managing life & socialising & still staying on track!
Well done, Rob :)

Rob, great job on all the really healthy options and combinations in your diet! I'm sure you've heard this a hundred times, but I would just caution you on the extreme calorie deficit, especially eating under 1000 calories! Remember that even if you are not feeling hungry and feel ok on that few calories, you risk negatively impacting your metabolism in the long term and potentially not getting enough nutrients to your body and brain. In any case, wishing you a wonderful new week!

Five corn chips! That's impressive restraint - I don't think I could have managed to keep it to that!

What an interesting story Joan of Arc's is! Not sure quite what to make of her, though she was clearly more honest, more courageous, more innocent than those around her. (ie at the end - not slinging off at her home or village.)

Hey Amy, yes it is a little hard to know what to make of Joan. Most of the details of her personal history are probably unknown, and what is known may be wrong. Clearly she was an impressive young woman.

It was a good day, finally getting hot here. I stopped at a fruit stand today and amazingly they still had local cherries. I bought a bunch, but they are starting to go downhill, getting smaller and not as good. Oh well, its been a good run.

Enrico Dandolo was elected Doge of Venice in 1193. Enrico is best known for leading the fourth crusade and turning them against the Byzantine empire and Constantinople rather than heading east to battle the Muslims. Venetians were good businessmen and knew that the Arab world were good trading partners, no reason to attack them, but the Byzantines were competitors, a better target. It got the crusaders excommunicated, but probably contributed to the ultimate downfall of the Byzantine empire.

The Venetian government was more "democratic" than most for that era, the Doge (Venetian dialect for Duca or Duke) who headed the government was elected by a committee of electors, the office was not hereditary, elected only. It lead to a very stable government, ruling Venice more or less continuously for over 1,000 years from 726 until Napoleon came along in 1797. There were 120 known Doges.

Same here Rob! I confess you are a bit of my dieting hero. Your restraint is inspiring to me. I’ve been on the cusp of indulging on that second snack and thinking, WWRD? :rotflmao:This is a tough battle and you make it doable and real. Thanks!

Great job at that wedding, that was some restraint. And your big salad yesterday, beans and tuna and egg, sounds so delicious and healthy and satisfying! My kind of foods.

It was a good day, tonight we went out to a Mexican Restaurant and I stuck with my usual, ordering the lowest calorie thing on the menu and this time I ate no corn chips or any of the tortilla shell the taco salad came in. No doubt what I did eat was mostly rich and calorie laden, my calorie estimate is a WAG, but probably not too bad.

The fruit supply is good, cherries are disappearing but apricots are still going strong and fresh melons coming in now. The field next door to us has both cantaloupe and honeydew melons, we have a deal with the farmer, we pick what we want right off the vine and then pay him when we see him. He also has watermelons, but they are not quite ripe yet.

Monday

breakfast yogurt 80
cereal 105
honeydew & cantaloupe 100

lunch

dinner - went out to a Mexican Restaurant
taco salad, I only ate the lettuce, tomatoes, and underlying glop, no chips and did not eat the shell, this is a real WAG 700

It was in 1291 that the glassmakers of Venice were ordered to move to Murano, to reduce the risk of fire in Venice. Murano became Europe's main glass maker. Glassmaking is still Murano's main industry, though a lot of it today is to feed the tourist trade.

You certainly get around Rob!
