Alligatorob's Diary

298 this morning! Down 2 lbs from last week and through that 300 barrier, I'm happy.

Though it has me thinking about how far I still have to go. At a rate of 1 to 2 lbs per week it will take almost 2 years. But I suppose those years will be better spent than if I don't keep this up. And I have to remember my real goal is just to eat well today.

To me, this is what is frustrating about the weight loss industry. It's trained people to believe that this is a quick and easy process (and that everyone should want to lose weight, which really shouldn't be the case - it should be a personal choice!) But yes, making healthier nutritional choices and dealing with any negative aspects to your relationship with food is a better way to spend the next couple of years than ignoring those things! In my opinion, anyway.

Sorry for digging up old posts... haven't been able to get on here much for a while, so skimming through what I've missed! Love the history lessons!

Thanks PLB, particularly for:

Its something I have to keep in mind. Nothing quick and easy here. Hopefully not too hard, and over time getting easier, but definitely not quick.

Today was a good day, had a bit of a challenge at lunch, my wife's sister came over and fixed stuffed zucchini. She is a good cook, her food tastes real good, but part of her secret is getting as much fat as possible into things, and she is very head strong, you just have to step back and let her cook. My wife figured that out long ago. Anyway I am sure it was the most calorie laden stuffed zucchini possible, but it tasted good, and I did not eat too much. Fortunately it was a late lunch so I only needed a good salad for dinner. Stayed on track for calories for the day.

Sunday

breakfast yogurt 80
cereal 100
2 cutie oranges 80

snack
banana 94

lunch - stuffed zucchini hard to know on this one, it was stuffed with sausage and rice. I did some onlline searching and found 120 to 280 calories which seems low so I guessed 500

dinner - a big salad, no dressing
lettuce, peppers & tomatoes 75
ham 80
guacamole 155
2 cutie oranges 80

In 1244 Agnes Blannbekin was born in Austria. She is sometimes referred to as Saint Agnes, but was never really canonized as a saint. She was a Christen mystic who had visions and revelations, she was also a prolific writer. Two things about her I find particularly interesting first some of her visions were erotic in nature, and second she was able to talk and write about them without bringing down too much scorn from the church.

It was a good day, I had beer and pizza and stayed on track, an accomplishment. Of course I ate a whole lot less pizza and had only one partial beer, far less than I would have eaten before this diet. But it satisfied me. We frequently eat pizza when the grandkids come over, getting it delivered is easier than cooking and they like it a lot. One thing I have noticed is that since going on this diet that pizza order goes a whole lot further, our beer supply seems to last a lot longer as well.

In 1246 the Aztecs took Chapultepec from the Toltecs, Chapultepec is Toltec for Grasshopper Hill. Today Chapultepec Park is the largest park in Mexico City, and one of the largest urban parks in the world. It is one of my favorite places in Mexico City. On top of the hill the old Chapultepec Castle now houses a Mexican Military museum. I found the section on the Mexican American war particularly interesting, it gives you a different perspective than we get in our US history books. There was an American flag captured by the Mexicans. Chapultepec was the site of a famous battle in 1845. The hill was defended in part by Mexican military school cadets who refused to retreat and fought to the death. They are now recognized as Mexican heroes, Los Niños Héroes. It is hard to imagine a time when the US felt the need to invade Mexico, we are lucky to live in more peaceful times.

I've come across mentions of St. Agnes and her strange visions in literature before but until just now didn't know she was Austrian. Must ask some of my clients what they know about her!

Very little worth doing is ever quick and easy mate. If it was it would already be done!

You’re making great progress and what’s more you’re doing it your way on your terms. That in itself is an accomplishment.

I had pizza while I was away, too - shares with others, which is tricky, because I always want to see what each one tastes like. Great that you managed pizza and beer and a social occasion and stayed on track!

Thanks for both the recent history snippets - I'd never heard of either Los Niños Héroes or Agnes Blannbeken - I find your calorie-histories really interesting!

It was a good day, ate well and I feel good. Things are working out fine. My calories were on the low side, but I don't feel like they were, feeling petty full fat and happy right now.

Nebuchadnezzar I, king of Babylon from 1125 to 1104 BC was born in 1147 BC. He was not related to the much later King Nebuchadnezzar of biblical fame, the later king was however named for Nebuchadnezzar I, it must have been a popular name in Babylon back then. Legend has it Nebuchadnezzar I was descended from a long line of kings, dating back to "before the flood". The same legend claims Nebuchadnezzar I was endowed with perfect wisdom. Sounds like early propaganda to me... I am probably also descended from somebody, not likely a king, from before the flood, the perfect wisdom thing however seems to have eluded me, so far anyway.

Glad you are feeling so well on this plan, Rob. I think that's so critical for success. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Rob, feeling good does really help. What I talk less about are my food cravings, they have not gone away, but so far I have managed to control them. Others say they do go away with time, I hope so. Maybe it's like what my Uncle used to say about quitting smoking, it not so hard, the first 30 years were the worst.

Food cravings may never go away, Rob, but they will fade. One day you will look at some foods that you used to really crave & you will shudder. Well, I know that I do. A packet of salt & vinegar crisps will still look very inviting, but I just don't go there. It will get better.

291 this morning, down 2 lbs from last week! I am happy! Thanks to all for the great advice and support, I don't think I could have done this alone.

Down 13 kg, 2 stone 1 lb, or 29 lbs in the 2 months since I started! Feels good.

This will will be challenging, we are going to meet my brother and family on the Oregon coast Saturday for a few days. It will be interesting to see how well I can keep on track.

Thanks Cate, fading is probably the best I can expect, and I believe it will be good enough.

Congratulations, that's a LOT of weight lost!
I still have cravings and I still give in too often but these days I crave way fewer things.

Absolutely brilliant - nearly 20% of the way through the current clubroom! It is so good to read your progress (as well as your histories).
Best wishes for the family time. :)

Another good day, ate well and feel good. The news is apricots are starting to come in, we don't have a tree but a lot of our neighbors have small orchards so we can get local ones. Bad news is we are approaching the end of the cherries. Our 2 year old cherry tree had 3 nice cherries but the disappeared before we could pick them, hope some bird enjoyed them. Peaches are only a couple of weeks away. Our 2 year old pear trees have at least a dozen pears, I don't know when to expect them to be ripe. Our apples are still at least a month away. It will be a couple of months of lots of fresh fruit.

Abraham ben Samuel Abulafia a Jewish scholar was born in Malta in 1240. Abraham was a brave man, in 1280 he set out for Rome with the declared intention of converting the Pope to Judaism, when the Pope heard of it he ordered a stake be prepared to burn Abraham upon arrival. As Abraham entered Rome he learned that the Pope had died the night before of an apoplectic stroke the night before. Abraham was captured and imprisoned for a few weeks, but managed to avoid being burnt at the stake and somehow got away. He lived and continued to write for a number of years afterward.

I love it!
