Alligatorob's Diary

glad you didn't have any big 2nd shot side effects rob - crossing my fingers I'll be in the same boat in 2 weeks...

.... I was more tired than usual today, maybe that was a side effect of yesterday's covid shot, ...
i spoke to a friend who just got his 2nd shot a few days ago and that's one of the things that hit him. he got some minor flu symptoms that evening, but the next day just felt very tired.

Today was a kind of strange day, tried to keep my solid food to a minimum, but still got to my calorie target. I think that was best. And I am still not exercising or exerting, on the Dr's advice. After Saturday's painful hernia eruption I am being pretty careful. Surgery tomorrow will change things. I may not be up to posting tomorrow night, but will when I can.
Don’t forget to ask if you should change your diet for a while after the op xo
Thanks Cate, I will be talking to the Dr about it. Still not sure if I will go back to the nutritionist, can decide after surgery.

Thanks Err, and I hope you can get yours soon too. In Utah it is now available to everyone, no more age limits. Is California there yet?

I have had no flu like symptoms, but I do still feel a bit tired, not sure it is vaccine related or not. No arm pain.

From what I have heard the second jab can leave you feeling a bit tired. But of course, you have had a lot going on, what with your trip & the hernia. Hope everything goes well with the op, Rob :) You may need lots of rest. How good that you are having this op at your optimal weight?

Crossing my fingers for you. What time is your surgery? Do you have to fast beforehand?

Not yet, but I already got my first due to BMI and will get my 2nd in a couple weeks and I hear the 2nd gives most of the fatigue-y flu like side effects for those who have them (I had very mild fatigue the day after the 1st)

Ain't dead yet. Out, successfully and well, or so the Dr tells me, kind of doped up right now... He did say the excess skin made thing more complicated. Wanted to know all about my weight loss, seemed more interesting to him than my belly for the moment, probably a good thing.

Did ok today, no exercise and pretty low calories, but I ate all I could. Really a lot for no solid food and not until after about 6 pm. Still a little slow, but wide awake, sleep tonight may be hard. Dr says I can start slow exercise like walking in a couple of days, asked me to start with short easy walks. Advice I plan to take.
Awesome news Rob!
Thanks Err, so far I think it is.
Great to hear and good to have you back!
Thanks LaMa, so far the news is about as good as it could be.

Now off to bed, and see if I can get some sleep.

I hope you manage to get some sleep, Rob. It really is the best thing after an op. You will need to be very gentle with yourself & not rush into anything. Take care xo

Not a very good day, lots of pain and pain killers, pretty foggy tonight, hope I can sleep. I did stay on calorie track, but besides being low volume not a lot good to say about my food... or anything else.

You have had a major operation & it will take time for you to heal. Hope you can get some sleep & relax, Rob. :grouphug:

Sticking to your calories despite being in postoperative pain? That's heroic. I hope the pain goes down soon: there is quite a lot of (internal) wound surface and the inflammation phase takes 2-3 days if everything goes perfectly.

Sorry you're having a rough time post op Rob, but I'm sure it'll be worth it to stop that stomach discomfort once and for all.

Today was a better day, not great, but better. I have figured out how to ice my belly better, and that seems to be helping. I am trying to go without the painkillers, hopefully I'll be able to sleep, we'll see. So no exercise, but I was on track with calories and am logging here, so as good as can be expected I guess. To be honest this has hit me harder than I expected it to, but all seems to be healing, just slowly, so I think I will be fine.

Yeah, Cate, more major than I had appreciated before hand. But I think I am healing. Thanks for the turducken thing, that was great, I had not seen it before. Helped brighten my day a bit.
Can you go back to bulky veggies right away or does it need time?
I don't know, but tonight for dinner I had my first solid food in a week, salmon and salad, will see how it goes. And I am sure you are right about this being worth it in the long run, even if it doesn't feel like it right now.

Thanks LaMa, not sure its heroic so much as momentum, but I am glad I had the momentum going in. There is more internal damage than I had thought there would be, but guess I had not given it enough thought. I had 3 hernias, one at my belly button and one on each side below, and the lower right one was pretty bad. So the surgery had to mesh and stich up my whole lower abdomen... Hopefully it all works and is never needed again. I suppose its possible my weight caused the problem, I don't know of any relatives with hernia problems...

Did your relatives know about your hernia problems before you planned surgery? Whatever the cause was it's a good thing you got it fixed.
