Alligatorob's Diary

I'm amazed you have attempted this without a plumber. I think beer calories were justified!

It was a good day, I ate well, exercised, and feel pretty good right now. Took the day off from the waterline leak hunt. I did spend the afternoon filling some of the holes dug last week, ones that we will not be needing. Leak search begins again tomorrow.
Those beer calories are probably pretty good for you, Rob.
Thanks Rob, I am sure you are right. I was mostly surprised at how drunk a single beer made me feel, a cheap drunk now!
I vote for occasional (reasonable) beer calories as well
Sounds quite reasonable, I will do it again before too long.
could you just abandon the old pipe completely and install something more modern, more rugged, more direct and less likely to fail again somewhere else?
That is what I think will end up happening, but only a part of it. Most of the line is good pvc and doesn't leak. The problem is the leak is in a location with a lot of buried utilities so even just a replacement will mean a lot of hand digging. And in our climate the line has to be at least 3 feet down to avoid freezing.

I really am not, I have help from a friend who is a handyman, he knows a lot about plumbing, and has a backhoe. Normally he works as head of maintenance at the school, but since its shutdown he has time for me. He grew up in the house, and we purchased it from his father, so he knows the house better than we do. I work with him to help where I can, but he is the real workhorse on this project. I am paying him of course, but it will cost me less than hiring a regular plumber.

What a handy combo--knowing how to do the work, knowing the house and having the time due to the shutdown. I guess if you have to go through this it's nice to have good help available like that.
I really do hope this gets sorted soon for you and you can enjoy a celebration beer sitting back with the job accomplished!

Your handy helper does sound VERY handy.

That´s a good sign, really. People who are proud of how well they hold their drink are mostly saying their poor livers are used to needing to detox more. Like an addict needing more and more drugs to really feel them. Plus of course less weight means less alcohol needed to get drunk!

Good to have a break from the water leak hunt . Great you thought to do a workout when you felt you needed a mood lift .

It was a good day I exercised ate well and other than feeling tired am pretty good right now. The water leak saga continued, at least we have a plan now, hand dug a trench to the side of my office, it was under the roof so no backhoe, and we found, but did not damage our power supply line, fiber optic cable, and 2 sewer lines. The trench still needs to go a bit deeper, but we are getting close. Then it will be about 10 meters of backhoe trench, hopefully without destroying anything other than our sprinkler system and new lawn...

I have been doing some online research into how to get to the waterfalls I have been talking about. So far the only people I have found who have actually made it to the falls were winter ice climbers (Ice climbing the Willard Canyon Waterfall ), not something I plan to try. It may suggest the hike is beyond my capabilities. But I am not giving up yet...

I really do hope this gets sorted soon for you and you can enjoy a celebration beer sitting back with the job accomplished!
You and me both, Liza come over you can join me in as many beers as you like!

Thanks LaMa, good to know. I was once able to drink a lot more, and hold it. I don't miss that at all, being a cheap drunk is fine with me.

It was Petal, but now I am back at it. Once the leak is repaired it will take a lot of work to restore the yard, driveway, and the area under my awning, but that will feel better than the frustrating hunt and continued destruction. Never had a problem of this magnitude with a house...

Lovely--no work and all the beers I want? what a deal! Actually I'd probably prefer the peach wine if that's ok with you!

That looks like a very intense hike!! you never know though--you sound like the determined type! I like my "hikes" nice and simple and safe

Certain hard work over uncertain destruction. I understand the preference :)

Sorry to hear about the leak Rob. Glad you have a plan of action to tackle it, but I know it must be super annoying.

It was a good day, I ate well, got exercise, and feel pretty good.

The water leak saga continues, but there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel. This picture shows the capped waterline, note the power supply cable almost 2 meters above it. When capped here the leak stops, the house has water, but my office does not.

This is a picture of the new waterline now entering the office.

This was a really hard dig, about 3 meters under roof with 2 sewer lines, a fiber optic line, and a power supply line to dodge, but it got done. We still have about 10 meters of digging to connect the two, but it will be backhoe digging and should be without utilities. If all goes well the water will be reconnected tomorrow. Then the repair work can begin. I have already begun filling some of the huge holes, not really repairing yet, just filling for safety.

Sure come by anytime, in fact any of y'all are welcome! Yeah I think I'll back off the waterfall hike for a while and build a few more muscles and skills before another attempt. Today I did a 6 km walk with about 130 meter rise, good practice.
I love this - and that the inspiration for it was from fellow WLF-habitué @jackbenimble !
Yes, did it again tonight, it takes my mind off the waterline frustrations.

Absolutely, that is where things are headed!
I know it must be super annoying
Yes, at some level it really is, but being annoyed doesn't help, so I do my best not to let it get to me. Emily, I think you are doing much the same with this corona thing, it appears to me you are rising to the challenge and are all the happier for it.

In 1230 or there abouts the Carmina Burana was created. It's a diverse collection of mostly bawdy songs and poems. For example:

Ego sum abbas (I am the abbot)
I am the abbot of Cockaigne
and my assembly is one of drinkers,
and I wish to be in the order of Decius,
and whoever searches me out at the tavern in the morning,
after Vespers he will leave naked,
and thus stripped of his clothes he will call out:
Woe! Woe!
what have you done, vilest Fate?
the joys of my life
you have taken all away!

:D Never looked for a translation of the Carmina Burana but they sound very happy even without knowing the words. That´s great that your waterline problems are getting resolved! I´m sure it´ll be a lot of work still but at least you know what´s what now.

201 lbs this morning, down 5 lbs from last official weigh in! That's 119 lbs down since I began this diet. I am happy.

This is a 10 day loss, not a week, last weigh in was a few days early for the 100 day challenge. My unclothed weight is below 200, but I am back to my clothed official weights now.

Congratulations on the fantastic weight loss Rob . All that exercise combined with diet sure is having a fantastic affect . Well done

It was a good day, I ate well, exercised and got the leak fixed! Now have water to the house and office without leaks! Now the repair work begins, huge holes in my driveway and lawn, and a couple in the peach orchard. But I know how to fix that, the drive is gravel and I built it, and I leveled and planted the lawn. So I can fix it all, it will just take time and work. Worked on it until almost 8 pm this evening and I am exhausted, but no leak sure feels good right now!

LaMa, Cate, and Petal thanks for the kind words, I am pretty happy about the loss. Petal you may be right without the increased exercise I may not have lost as much.

Could not find much of interest that happened in 1276 - Maybe the laying of the foundation stone of the Minoritenkirche in Vienna is the best I can do. The Minoritenkirche is a famous Church about which I know nothing, but I suspect LaMa knows plenty.

A beautiful church Rob. Nothing is built now like was built back then .
Glad your leak is now fixed and you are onto repairing the garden.

The exercise you got while trying to find that leak would certainly have burned lots of calories. What a relief it must have been to get to the bottom of it. You must really be starting to feel the benefits of your lower weight & extra exercise.
