Allan's Weight Loss Journey

Had a good couple of days previous, but today was not so good. Ordered pizza for my family and ended up eating too much. i might still be able to salvage the day if I get on the bike tonight...This morning I was at 171.5. Hoping i can keep the momentum going, but not so sure now.

I did 45 minutes on the bike last night. It seems to have helped a little, as I held steady at 171.5. After work today, we are packing for our trip. Then, leaving early tomorrow to drive 5 hours to my parents' house in South Carolina. It's kind of a blessing that we are traveling on Thanksgiving: traveling usually results in eating restaurant or junk food, so to get both that and the thanksgiving feast all in one day is better than two separate days.

I gained a couple pounds over the holiday--I was at 173.5 yesterday, but have reined it in to 173 this morning. I was able to continue my walking over the vacation, but of course indulged in turkey and other goodies. Need to play catchup the next few days and get back on track.

It looks like the fitness consistency is paying off--I am back to 172 this morning. Need to stay strong on the diet and get to 171. HollyBelle has gotten me motivated to do my cardio early today. I plan to get it done pre-lunch and maybe do some surfing at lunch, if I can sneak away from work for about an hour and a half. Just gotta hope that no meetings pop up that I can't get out of.

I was able to get about 10 min of stationary bike done; then, I went surfing for 30 minutes. I kept active in the water with lots of paddling, only taking a minute every now and again to sit on my board to scan the horizon for waves.

Nice work being done in here Allan. That's the same spelling as my middle name BTW. Nice job on getting rid of the turkey day weight in short order. I have been avoiding the scales, but I'll hop back on tomorrow.

Thanks, Quercus! Interesting to know we share that name -- that's the least common spelling I think.

I was down to 171.5 yesterday, back to 172 today. Then, I sorta had a mini binge on buffalo wings this evening, so it's not promising for tomorrow's weigh-in. I am feeling like I'm fighting off another virus or throat infection. Really bad sore throat for the last couple of days, so I think I was self-coddling by eating those wings (even though I was at my calorie max for the day). I'm guessing 172.5 tomorrow.

The sore throat finally went away yesterday afternoon. I hate to admit to K, but I think the raw garlic she has been suggesting I take every time I've been sick really works in shortening the duration and decreasing the intensity of colds. You can't chew it or the concentrated bitterness and acidity will burn your mouth and tastes horrible. You just have to swallow bits of it like pills.

Back to 171.5 the last two days and managed to get 30 minutes of walking in yesterday. I decided to take a break from any workouts today. I seem to be experiencing the weird one leg is shrinking more than the other effect of weight loss. My right pant leg on two different pairs of jeans the last couple of days are tighter on my right thigh. In the mirror my left leg looks noticeably smaller. Must be where I'm losing a lot of the weight for some odd reason, all in my left leg.

My K suggested we order Indian for dinner from our favorite restaurant. I was good at first -- just eating a small serving of chicken coconut curry over white rice, but then ended up having a large second helping after our movie watching -- not good. I plan to work it off tomorrow with an extra-long workout.

This evening was the night of the annual father/daughter snow ball dance at my daughters' elementary school. My girls, especially the younger one this year, had really wanted to go again, but after going the last two years, I was just not up to it this year. They have been talking with friends lots about the Star Wars movies, so a couple weeks ago, I suggested we have a daddy/daughter Star Wars marathon instead. Surprisingly, they agreed and got very excited about it and have been looking forward to it. I say 'surprisingly' because about two years ago, I managed to get them to watch Star Wars, and they did. Then, we started watching Empire Strikes Back, and the whole snow creature scene in the first 5 minutes turned them off, and so we shut the movie off. I think they were just too young then. It was a huge success today, however. We watched SW last weekend, then EPSB and Return of the Jedi tonight, and they thoroughly enjoyed them all! I think I am stuck going to the dance next year though:)

Greensurf, sore throat, I used to take Kyolic...staight down the mouth, it is expensive but I call it liquid gold.

Very good for you as it is aged and yes garlic is great.
You are doing so well, keep it up.
As you get closer to your goal weight just watch those nasty carbs as in white rice and pasta.

Great work GS. mrs woods

Just read your last post....everyone does it and it is great to admit it.
Big step.
Going to be hard on you sweetie...no more Peanut butter and raw sugar on whole wheat bread, or apples, bananas.

More veggies, at tad of fruit. I don't eat fruit just veg, as it has enough sweetness in it eg carrots.

Hey but I can't talk as I ate myself 14 kgs and now lost it but more to go.
And you are doing great.

mrs woods is right. Fruits are great if they are replacing less healthy items, but remember fruit still has a lot of natural sugar so too much of it is still not good. More veggies will help. I think Peanut Butter is OK but be careful how much you eat of it.

You are doing really well! Keep it up :)

You look like you're doign great so far! I know how you feel about gaining it back. A few years ago I lost 24 pounds, then gained it back. Last year I lost 31 pounds, then gained most all of it back! This time I want to lose the 40+ pounds and keep it off!!

mrs woods, thanks! I will look into Kyolic. I appreciate the hard honesty about the PB and sugar sandwiches and fruit.

Thanks, Icy. The fruit are replacing less healthy items. At work, I used to eat chips or pop-tarts for snacks!! Now it's the apple or banana.

Thanks, MysticRealm. --yeah, I'm really hoping I can make some permanent changes this time around. The weight loss was very short-lived. My efforts ended and never resumed until this August. One of the big differences this time is I can more easily see when I'm starting to slip, and I know I can't let myself slip. In the past, I would rationalize and tell myself the midnight snack I was eating at the moment didn't matter, but it did, especially when the next night I was having another midnight snack! And I have seen how easy it is to put the pounds back on. fingers crossed.

Well, I had some salty fried chicken the other night, and I'm paying for it now. 172.5 today--ugh. Gotta get back to my mean and lean attitude!! :)

I did go surfing for an hour and 15 yesterday with lots of paddling. I also got my 30 min bike ride today. Oh yeah, and a yoga and bike workout on Sunday.

Those salty food always show on the scales! I try not to have anything too high in sodium within a couple days of my weekly weigh in (I generally weigh everyday but record it only on fridays).
Great job on the exercise, that's something I gotta add back in.

Definitely great job on the exercise! Don't beat yourself up over the salty fried chicken, chances are the salt is fooling your scale and you'll be back down in a couple days.

Believe us greensurf.....Salt will add KGS, go for minimum for a day or 2 and ( sticking to your program) it will fall off.

I have even eaten low cal..fat..sugar etc , but high Salt and it really adds to your weight.:seeya:
