Advice needed on workout

Ok here goes - i try and go to the gym 3-4 times a week.

At the moment i want to lose about a stone and tone up
Im 5'6 and weigh 140lbs

At the moment i do 5 min warmup on the bike, then i do 30 mins on the treadmill - start off with walking for 2 mins increasing speed as i go. Then i run for 10 mins at 9.2km/hour and then i walk at 7.4 km/hour at an incline of 2 for the remainder.

I then do 15 - 20 mins on the Elliptical trainer level 11 (levels 1-20)

I then do 5 mins on the rower level 8 (levels 1 - 12)

Then I might do a few weight machines, some ab crunches, side leg lifts.

Any advice would be appreciated as to whether i am going about this the right way or not!!!

Few things I noticed... I would get a bit more serious about the weights. I would do a full body routine. I would also do weights first and then cardio.

Other than that, it would depend on your nutrition. Just in case you haven't seen these 5 tips to fat loss I will post them for you.

1) Eat 5-6 small meals throughout the day. Each meal should be 2-3 hours apart. Each meal should contain one protein and one carb. The first meal should be eaten within an hour after waking.

2) Drink lots of water :)

3) Rest properly. This means taking at least 24-48 hours between strength training the same muscles, and it also means getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Lastly, it means taking 1-2 days off from exercising per week.

4) Cardio. This should be done at different intensity levels and different session lengths. Consider doing a low intensity/long session, a high intensity/short session and a few medium intensity/medium length sessions.

5) Strength Training. Strength train each muscle 1-3 times per week. You should lift a proper weight and perform the proper amount of sets/reps for your strength training method. If you need more guidance or exercise ideas you can head over

All of the above things combined will result in fat loss.

Hi there!

Looks like you're doing plenty of cardio. I would mix it up and sometimes do some sprint intervals, and sometimes do some longer, steady state.

I highly recommend a full weight training routine. If you're new to training, getting a program froma personal trainer is an excellent place to start. Don't worry, you won't get huge and muscular. Women are not designed to grow muscles easily.

How is your diet? Number one for losing fat is diet.

Hope this has been helpful. Let me know if I can help more.

help with weights

Following on from the great advice - what weights work should i be doing

My problem areas are my arms, shoulders and bum/thighs.

No matter how much weight i have lost in the past i think my arms always look chunky - no definition. I want them to look long and lean

Any advice would be reatly appreciated

You should be doing weights for every muscle group. You can head over to get more info about strength training.

To give your arms definition... you want to add some muscle and lose fat. That's done by following the 5 tips to fat loss posted above. You can do it :D
