Hi WLF!

So, here is a bit of info about me.

I am kinda a newbie, kinda an old friend. I used to blog here under a different name, and with the help and support of you wonderful peeps I dropped from 168lbs to 146lbs. This was about two-three years ago. I now weigh 149lbs. (There has been one big increase-decrease in weight during that time). I am 5'5 and would love to get to and maintain between 130-140. I am not sure where I will feel happiest. Maybe I will see when I get there!

I live in England with my fiance D and work as a research scientist. I am 25 and my hobbies inlude running, yoga, cycling, cooking, reading and going camping. I have recently started BodyPump classes (weight training to music) which I LOVE far more than I expected to! I love traveling, and have seen quite a lot of the world already, and I am getting married in May.

Back to the weight loss topic in hand, my goals are:

1) Lose between 10-20 more pounds.

2) MAINTAIN!!!! This is so much harder than losing!!!

3) Improve health and confidence.

The way I do this is do keep a calorie deficit of around 500, though this varies a lot.

I chose my new name, 'Adina' because it means 'slender' in Hebrew.

I look forward to catching up with old friends and making some new ones.

Carnival!!!

Hi,

So this morning I weighed in at 10st 7.1lbs aka 147.1lbs or 66.7kgs. I am pleased with this as progress so far. :Angel_anim:

Today D and I went to the Notting Hill carnival! It is the biggest carnival in Europe, a celebration of Carribean culture. The floats and dancers were amazing. Some of the dancers had such elaborate costumes that must have taken weeks to make, and their energy and vibrancy was wonderful. The music was good and VERY loud, the weather was hot and it seemed like the whole of London was there celebrating.

It is a cliche I know, but it really did seem to bring people together, of all age groups and ethnicities, and it made me feel good about humanity! The only slight downer were the met police. I know they have a difficult job but they were throwing their weight around, creating unnecessary and inconvenient bottlenecks as 'crowd control' and generally being a pain in the a**e!

The food stalls were also out in force, I had curry goat with rice'n'peas, and red stripe beer. It was ab-sol-ute-ly delicious!!!!!! :)

Also over the weekend I have aquired a new bike (I use cycling as exercise and during my commute) as my wonderful old folding Raleigh was stolen a few weeks ago. I was very attached to it (it even had a name!) so it took me a little while to resign myself to getting another! The one I have bought was cheap, therefore old and needs a bit of work, so despite being desperate to take it for a spin that has to wait til I have tuned the brakes up etc!

Hi Adina,

I thought I'd wander over here after you visited my diary! :) Sounds like you had a lovely weeked - I love street festivals like that. The last one I want to was a Taste of the Town type of thing and there was soooo much good food.

I bought a bike myself last week and I'm loving it. I've made myself a promise that if I have to run to the store for little things in the middle of the week (not my weekly big shopping trip), I'll take the bike. It's only about 2 miles or so. It's nice way to get the extra movement in my day!

Bank holiday summary

So I have had a four day weekend, and due to a friend giving my 3lbs of ripe homegrown apples which I made into two huge apple crumbles, plus a trip to festival today, my calorie deficits have not been as high as I would like: -1533 cals over the whole weekend, I would have preferred 2000-2500, but I'm pleased that at least I have been in deficit every day. And the crumble was REALLY delish ;)

Back to reality tomorrow. Previously when I have been losing weight I have focussed only on calorie deficit plus making sure I get lots of fruit and veg. This week I am going to experiment with a couple of new ideas.

1) Eat more protein, less carbs. Eg eggs for breakfast instead of cereal and trek bar () instead of usual high sugar, unsatisfying cereal bar.

2) Eat more frequently, ie regularly spaced, sensible snacks to try to prevent evening overeating- which is my downfall. Watch this space!

Verdict


Very pleased with the exercise I did. Today I implemented both my new ideas ie more protein and spaced out snacks. Amazingly, I didn't even feel hungry at all today til about 8pm!

Camping trip

Hi WLF

Just a quick note- can't be bothered to write up all my stats right now!

We had a great time on our camping weekend- to tell you the truth it was just what I needed! Weather wonderful, campsite secluded and driving problem-free.

Diet did not go well due to campfire binges of beer and cookies! I did do a 10 mile hike yesterday which burned at least some of it off!

I will weigh myself tomorrow morning and fingers crossed for a good result!
