Addie's New Beginning

You are doing great! Don't worry about the number......You'll be a member of the 200 club before you know it. :) And, only 1 pop in 64 days!! Wow, that's awesome!

Part of one of the challenges I'm in is to log our food all week ... which is good because I had sort of gotten out of the habit...

Breakfast:
1 Banana, raw
2 tbsp Peanut butter
1 Cup Milk, 1% fat

Snack:
1 Banana, raw
1 Crystal Light packet (Hunger Satisfaction)

Lunch:
Salad with 4oz. chicken breast, and Italian dressing (reduced calorie, fat-free)
1 Serving Veggie Chips (Assorted)

Snack:
11 Almonds, roasted
1 Apple, raw
1 Hershey's 100 Calorie Dark Chocolate Bar

Dinner:
Tortilla "Pizza" - Whole wheat tortilla, crushed tomatoes, WW reduced fat swiss cheese (2 slices), onion, 2oz. chicken with hot sauce & light barbeque sauce ("buffalo"), topped with 1 tbsp fat-free ranch dressing
4oz. chicken, grilled and chopped

Dessert:
1 Banana, raw

Total - 1968 calories

Fat (31%) Carbs (41%)
Protein (28%) Alcohol (0%)

Water intake: 200oz.

I know that I'm probably at least 100-200 calories off on dinner because my fiance made it and I know I didn't know exactly what he put in it. But, 1968 calories isn't enough for me to have in a day, so it's a good thing if it is off.

Went to the gym tonight (yay!) and did about 2.4miles in 35 minutes, ... it was mainly 2 miles (30min) and then a 5 minute cool-down.

1st mile: 14:32
2nd mile: 15:15
5-min cool down

Did strength stuff today too:

Leg Press (3 sets x 12) @ 205lbs.
Bench Press (3 sets x 12) @ 50lbs.
Lat Pull Down (3 sets x 12) @ 65lbs.
Hamstring Curls on Yoga Ball - 1.5 sets x 12 ... I couldn't finish my regular 3 sets, my hammies and knees were too sore from the cardio.

A very good day! Maybe by tomorrow I'll be down to what my goal was for today, 310.4lbs. (Today I was at 311lbs.)

I am going to KILL IT this week!!!! rawr!

Made my way to the gym tonight even though I didn't feel up to it at all. Wound up doing 2 solid miles on the elliptical with a 1/4 mile cooldown (all in under 35 mins):

1st mile: 14:27
2nd mile: 14:45

I can't believe that I finally got both my miles under 15 minutes, even though tonight's workout was a little brutal. My legs felt like I was wading through molasses the whole time.

After a little back and forth discussion with Omega, I think we've come to the conclusion that my workouts are so brutal because I'm not getting nearly enough protein. I think that trying to hit my protein goals from here on out with give me the energy I need to workout effectively and will boost my calories into the range there they are supposed to be. Most of the time, I don't eat enough calories in a day and I've been creating huge deficits without even really intending to.

The other thing that I need to pay attention to is cutting my starchy carbs back. I still eat too many (as they're my favorite thing to eat), and I've come a long way with everything but I feel like I've been stagnating with making improvements to my diet and that I need to bring my focus in to getting that straight and then start tweaking my exercise routine after that.

Addiecakes, I think I overcompensated during my move. Was nervous about stress eating and aside from an unfortunate chocolate binge, ate too little. Was too busy and ill prepared, to stuff my face.

.. I have found it difficult to get ENOUGH calories in my day in a balanced way that is appropriate for my weight. I generally eat around 2,000 calories a day when I try to aim for about 2,500-2,800. I just can't seem to find the time to eat that much throughout my day ... so maybe seeing the way other people balance their diets will help me be able to squeeze those few hundred calories into my diet.

You got me thinking about whether I'm still in the proper range. I started at 171 and am now at 157 which isn't a huge change, but I suppose I should make adjustments along the way. I tried from about.com. I'm sure there are others...What source did you use to determine your ideal calorie intake? Maybe you consulted a physician or nutritionist, but if you're going the amateur route ;) (like me) I'd love to hear what sites you're using.

Haha, DEFINITELY going the amateur route! I have a scale that calculates how many calories I need to be eating to maintain my current weight (it's lingering right around 3,000 right now). So I cut that by 200-500 and arrive at my "diet" intake level. I could probably cut it back by a little bit more (especially on days when I don't work out) but I am weary of cutting too much. What's funny is that I hadn't paid much attention to my caloric need changes (I guess I still don't see myself as having lost 20lbs. already) so I probably should keep reevaluating as I go.

I think if I get a little more protein and hit the new goal I'm establishing for myself with that, a lot of the rest of the diet aspect of this will just fall into place.

Oh, as a reference, the scale sale 3,086 calories for maintenance, and based on the site that you use it said 3,100 for my current activity level ... so it's pretty spot on!

Wow Addie!!! Impressive that you take the time to count all the calories and log them. :iagree: You are starting to make me wonder if I should take the time out to do that. Hmmm....hahah! ;)! Great Work!!! You are on a road to Success!!! STAY ON IT BABY!!! :D!:grouphug:

Haha you know, I was just discussing this tonight. I realized I am still eating the same I was 15lbs ago. And major kudos to you for breaking your PR on TWO elip miles. Nice consistency :sifone:

btw im excited for the club challenge! :D

You have to make sure you change things up or else your body won't know to keep moving. This includes heating high calories one day and low the next or intense cardio one day and lifting on the other. If you do the same thing every day, your body starts to take things for granted. So definitely keep an eye on your calorie fluctuation.

Oooh man, the day started out so well and went to hell by the end. Tonight was my mom's birthday and for dinner I just didn't hold back. I had 4 wings with bleu cheese dressing, 2 slices of pizza and a large slice of cake. Man oh man, has it been a while since I did something like that.

I have a fair amount of regret about tonight's pig out, but I also know that it's not everyday that my mom turns 50, and I've been doing just fine so far. It put me at about 2,500 calories for the day so in the big grand scheme of things, it really wasn't all that bad. The ratio sucked ... but I got 149g of protein, just 20g short of my new goal. Yesterday I got 160g, so I know I'm already doing better. This week's weigh-in might be a little rough. I've been trying to eat few hundred more calories regularly (since I was eating so much of a deficit before) and it may come back to bite me in the butt ... but I plan on hitting the gym tomorrow morning, pushing the water and hoping for the best. Even if I only lose a pound, that's fine. Hell even if I just maintain I can live with that for now too. I'd hate to see a gain but I don't think it will come to that.

Time will tell, ... either way I'm still gonna do this thing.

I think that it's been REALLY difficult for me to stay away from the junk food lately because my hormones are out of whack. Because of my PCOS, my PMS time tends to be really severe, ... not in the sense that I get bitchy because I usually don't, but my cravings are very intense and my boobs hurt bad for (I'm not joking) sometimes up to 2 whole weeks before I'll get my period and finally get some relief. Part of the reason this sucks so bad is because I can't do the elliptical workouts right now because my boobs hurt so bad. I've been having to stick to the stationary bike to eliminate as much "jigglage" as possible. It really sucks ...

I also had an anxiety attack at work today (they usually happen when my hormones fluctuate before my period) and I had to go home sick. I tried to take my prescription (xanax) and it took most of the edge off, but I was still feeling pretty anxious and I couldn't focus on anything ... on top of it all I became extremely exhausted after about an hour. I've been feeling really tired this past week, probably another indicator that I'm PMS-ing ... but it's making life really difficult overall.

I kept thinking that with time, as I lost the weight, the PCOS would start to calm down and my cycles wouldn't be so terrible. I pretty much feel like crap every other week, ... ovulation week and then PMS week. I hate it ... and I just want to feel normal.

:nopity:

Addiecakes! I'm so sorry you're having such a rough time. I had to google PCOS because I'm .... well, ignorant.
Webmd says:
How is it treated?
Regular exercise, healthy foods, and weight control are key treatments for PCOS. ...The first step in managing PCOS is to get regular exercise and eat heart-healthy foods.
Most women with PCOS can benefit from losing weight. Even losing 10lb may help get your hormones in balance and regulate your menstrual cycle. PCOS can make it hard to lose weight, so work with your doctor to make a plan that can help you succeed.

You are doing exactly the right things to reduce your symptoms (and this is in my professional opinion)! ;) The syndrome is fighting you every step of the way, causing you pain, and causing your hormones and cravings to go haywire. The important thing is, you're fighting back! The 20+ lbs you've lost so far proves it. The fact that you eat well and responsibly even when you're stressed proves it. The fact that you're now stressing over 2500 calories on you're mom's 50th birthday proves it. I bet the old Addiecakes could binge on nearly twice as many calories with wings and pizza and pastries and not even notice; it was just habit.

Give yourself credit for how far you've come! Stay protective of all your hard work and don't let this syndrome take it away from you. It's okay to have bad days. We'll help you beat 'em back with a stick!

After reading BellyOff's post, I feel like I should go get some popmpoms and be cheering in the background! Go Addiecakes! Good job not losing sight of your goal!

Random thought - your user name "addiecakes" makes me want to eat cake! Ahhh!!!:willy_nilly:

Hahaha! Well, before my new-found health kick, I used to bake and decorate cakes as a hobby ... I have since stopped (mostly due to lack of expendable income) but the name sort of just stuck.

Thanks bellyoff. Most of the time, I'm fine, but every once in a while it just gets the best of me. I guess I was just hopeful that since I've lost nearly 25lbs. now, that my symptoms would have improved. And maybe they have ... maybe things could have been much worse. But I haven't had a month this bad in a while so it's sticking out in my brain.

Either way, the scale gave me a blessing this morning with a 308.8lbs. I thought I would be maintaining for sure! My "official" weigh-in is tomorrow, but the number this morning is quite motivating that even with last night's minor setback, I'm still in the game! :)

Haha, thanks Veronica! They need a pom-pom wielding smiley on here!
