abs tracking

hello all. new to the forum. using this to keep track of my progress for at least 3 months. i've recently purchased a new ab training system that i'm going to try out. my body type is consistent to that of an ectomorph. i do a fair amount of ab exercises in addition to regular lifting and a moderate amount of aerobics. for some reason though i've never been able to get a six-pack. so that is the goal i'm striving for by the end of this 3 month period.

as you can see i'm pretty slim. i'm 5'6, 135, and the abs area is pretty much flat with a little definition but no six-pack. i'll post weekly pictures of my progress. any comments/suggestions are more than welcome. thanks! :D

hmmm.. you dont look like the typical ectomorph in that pic. But you could just be an ectomorph who started out skinny fat and worked hard. good job.
The abs are looking good, you got low body fat, so theres not much left before they show. And remmber, abs is all about body fat, you need to be lean

thanks guys.

karky - you're right, i started out at the same height but weighed only 115. putting on the muscle mass in other areas took a long time but i've never been able to attain the six pack. body fat is really low as you can tell so it isnt a diet problem i dont think. what do you guys think? more cardio, etc to get rid of whatever body fat exists in the midsection or more rigorous ab exercises to bulk up the abs?

btw i need some advice/suggestions on working out lower abs and obliques. my current routine, i only feel the upper and middle section of my abs working. doesnt seem like the other areas are getting much of a workout. is this normal?

it must be diet. it all depends on your caloric intake and how clean your diet is.

theres no exercises that can target "lower abs", its one large muscle, the 'six pack'. for me, hanging leg raises, or hanging pikes are very good ab exercises along with decline russian twists; all in supplimentation to heavy squats(front squats, or zercher squats will bang your abs hard) and deadlifts. if you can build up your abs a bit more so they can show, you will have a greater chance at showing them at the same body fat percent.

your so dang lean, i say you bulk to get even more swoll. but i figure you want the six pack for the summer so thats reasonable :) i think youl look good either way

thanks for the motivation/advice guys. i'm gonna try hiit and bulk at the same time. did 10 mins of hiit on the treadmill with about 45 mins of lifting. ate like a t-rex today. will post updates of my progress and pics every week or so.

progression

ok here's my update after the first week. as far as abs-wise there doesnt seem to be much progress. maybe a little definition has started to form in the upper abs. of course its only been a week so i'm satisfied with them.

as far as muscle and weight goes, i think i may have lost a bit of mass. it seems i'm not eating enough to support the hiit, or perhaps im not getting enough protein and carbs to maintain bulking while doing hiit. i havent weighed myself all week but i'll do it today at the gym and let you guys know.

again any advice/comments are welcome. have a good weekend everyone.

lmao.
bulking and doing HIIT at the same time isnt that hard for me. just eat more...
i could see the problem if you a hardaginer though.

and i DO see an improvement in the second pic. your frign ripped

lol thanks guys. but yes, i am seriously looking for advice. i know there are more qualified people on here that have more experience than me. i mean i work out but exercise isn't my field of specialty. some of you guys on here have either been exercising longer, been researching fitness longer, or have chosen fitness as a profession. i dont doubt that you guys know more than i do.

ok so i weighed myself yesterday and it HIIT is doing what its supposed to. im down 3lbs to 132. lol apparently im outHIITing my bulking. maybe i should stop eating like a t-rex and find me a t-rex to eat.

You're right that there are some really qualified people on here, but I haven't seen many of them post in this thread...

I honestly think it's the name. Personally it's what been keeping me out for all this time...but I am not one of the people you're looking for, unfortunately.
