Abs abs abs...

From what I've researched online, all those little gadgets you see on TV actually work. But, what the infomercials *forget* to tell you is that the product does nothing for the fat around your abs. So a totally big fat fatty of a fat man can have perfect abs, but they just arnt visible.

So after talking with a few trainers I got the impression that you can get abs by strictly running treadmill until you sweat that fat off around it.

Now, I've seen guys who just have no body fat and have abs, but they are completely flat. Then there are the tanks who have that bulge in their stomache but no real definition.

I never work my abs out lately. They get a bit of a workout when Im plugging tires and whatnot, but I want to know if it really makes a difference to work them.

Yes. Genetics plays a huge role in whether you have eye popping abs, or a flat stomach with slight definition.

But failure to train the abs makes your core weak...that that opens you up to injuries on lifts like squats, deadlifts, bent over barbell rows...basically any move that requires stabilizing the torso/core.

As they've said in SO many posts like this before. Great looking abs are mainly made in the kitchen. Eat properly and give your abs a good workout (Not overdoing it) and you'll get what you were given. But like they said, if genetics are against you, you'll have to be satisfied with a nice firm stomach, but maybe no true definition. :)
