About Me

O.K. This is my first post. It's also a little about me.

I've struggled with my weight my entire life. Lack of motivation and drive I suppose. By the time I was out of high school I was 190 lbs. By the time I got married at 21 yrs old I was 215. My husband can eat anything he wants and stays 170 lbs. So keeping up with him I worked my way all the way up to 265lbs. Got pregnant at 29 and reached 300lbs. by the end of the pregnancy. After having him I went back to around 265. I joined the gym but was very agrivated that I only found I gained another 5 lbs. Once I stopped nursing I decided that's it I'm doing something drastic, and I started a No carb diet. For one whole year I ate No bread, No fruit, No Sugar, No carbs, and lost 70 lbs. Got down to 200 lbs. Everyone tells me this was very unhealthy, but so is being 265 lbs. I felt great, I was loosing weight, but I was also very constipated. ALL the Time. Anyways, I very reluctantly got pregnant again, and decided that I had to stop the no carb thing for fear of it being unhealthy for the baby. I proceeded to slowly get back into my old habits of eating anything I wanted. NOT GOOD. I got up to 240 again during my pregnancy. After I had him got back down to 220. He's a year old now, and I've creeped my way back to 225.

So My goal is to.

Continue to exercise, actually increase my exercise... routine.

Eat Healthy. Not No Carb, but definitly low carb. Low calorie is better.

Keep a daily diary of my food and exercise. Try to drink more water.

Keep track of what I'm doing to keep myself motivated.

Hopefully this forum will help me stay motivated.

Thanks for your support.:jump:

Hi there and welcome to the Weigh Loss Forum!
I read your post. It sounds like you have a good plan for your future there. If there's anything to add to that, it is fibre. When you write down your daily foods (are you using or something else?) pay attention to how much fibre you get. The recommended amount would be 25-35 grams daily. That will help to keep your stomach happy and functioning.
I find that planning ahead what I eat helps me to actually eat like I want to.
You sound motivated, and I'm sure this forum will come to the rescue if someday you struggle with motivation.
You've already chosen to do something good for you. I wish you the best in achieving all the goals you set for yourself! :)

ugh.. you sound like me.. only i didnt gain much during pregnancy (it was after i had my son and being depressed[hes a preemie]) i reached my highest weight at 230lbs!! sounds like your really motivated to stick to your goal on losing weight.. i wish you the best of luck!

have you set a goal weight yet?

Hi! Welcome to the site! This place is awesome for support so I have found. I can totally relate to having a hubby with a magic metabolism. My hubby can eat whatever he wants and never gain a pound while I can just look at it and add to my waistline! I am so glad you're here. I hope you find what you need from this site. Congratulations on your two children!

Very Frustrated

O.k.

So I never count calories, but I thought I'd give it a try, just to see what I'm doing. So I actually mad an effort to eat less and healthy over the last 2 days, and wrote down everything I ate and drank.

Today I went on line and typed in everything for the last 2 days, and found that I'm still over 2100 calories while I thought I was doing so well.

I feel so hungry througout the day. It's been a real struggle already.

I lost so much weight while doing the no carb diet, but I don't think it was really healthy and I want to make permanent changes in my eating habits.

Should I go back to no carb, just till I hit my goal.

I can't stand feeling hungry.

Sooooo frustrated.

What if you don't need to go under 2100 cals a day to lose weight? This number came up when you were already trying to do well. How many consecutive days would you say you have been eating like this? Considering your weight now you need a lot more calories than a 130 pound woman to maintain your weight. I did some calculations, and according to them it seems that 2100 cals would definitely lead to weight-loss. But the best way to find that out is for you to continue eating like this at least a week, maybe two. Only then you will get a good idea of your calorie expenditure. If you lose weight really fast, the calories are too low, if you don't lose at all, there still are a couple more things to consider before lowering the cals. In my diary there's a post where I've gathered some links for when I was designing my eating plan. You might want to read it and follow some of the links. http://weight-loss.fitness.com/weig...liette-cross-training-romeo-3.html#post199192 There's also a post about how my plan turned out. http://weight-loss.fitness.com/weig...liette-cross-training-romeo-3.html#post200192

The idea is NOT TO FEEL HUNGRY, but I think getting used to any changes in your nutrition takes a bit of time. So although you might be feeling hungry now, give it a few days and see how you feel then. Just a couple of questions you can ask yourself though.
Do you get enough water? 3 litres a day is a nice goal..
Do you get enough fibre? This is the one thing that can keep the hunger away.
Do you get enough protein? This is not a carb versus prot thing. The protein needs to be a substantial part of your nutrition, with carbs as well, and it's also been proven to keep the hunger away, because of the effect protein has on the carb absorbtion.
Are your carbs of the slowly absorbed kind? That's something whole grain or dark in bread, rice and pasta and the veg. The energy in them comes more slowly to use in your body and stays there longer.

I lost so much weight while doing the no carb diet, but I don't think it was really healthy and I want to make permanent changes in my eating habits.

Should I go back to no carb, just till I hit my goal.

Finally, I think you answered your own question there and already in your first post. No carb didn't work for you in long term. I'm sure you don't want to yo-yo anymore, so keep the carbs in your diet, keep healthy and keep going down slowly. Then you're more likely to stay in the low weight long term.
Frustration is normal. Stroll around in diaries and you'll find it everywhere. GIVE YOURSELF TIME! That's my advice... :)

Hi! I am not the calorie expert here, but at 225, 2100 calories does not sound wildly off the mark to me. In a post by Steve he described (I think) 2500 calories as appropriate maintnence for a 170 pound person and had a rant about widely-mistaken beliefs about needing to radically slash calories.

I'm not sophisticated enough on this site to know how to attach the link here (if someone else will do it & explain how it's done I'd be grateful). But, you could find it under the tag "starve" and it was started by Steve.

In short, I'm trying to say do not be discouraged - if you plugged your calories into fitday they've got a thing, maybe on the page where you log your activity, which sets out your the calories you've burned based on your basal metabolic rate, your lifestyle, and your logged-in daily activity. Do some more looking around here, especially at what steve writes, and you'll get an idea of what a healthy calorie range for you is to lose 1-2 pounds a week and not get your body in starvation mode.

Your intentions so far sound so healthy, don't cave into the urge to go no-carb!

Sorry, I'm obsessing . . .

I copied this from a post by Sophie335 in another link:

The Easy Way
You can roughly estimate your daily calorie requirements using this simple formula:

For sedentary people: Weight x 14 = estimated cal/day

For moderately active people: Weight x 17 = estimated cal/day

For active people: Weight x 20 = estimated cal/day

Note: Moderately Active is defined as 3-4 aerobic sessions per week. Active is defined as 5-7 aerobic sessions per week.

I have struggled with adding enough protein to my diet, but something I have noticed is that protein is a lot more filling than carbohydrates given the same number of calories. So if you have sources of lean protein in your diet, it will probably fill you up better and keep you from being as hungry.

I have been having things like grilled chicken and hard boiled egg whites for extra protein.

Thank you for the advice. I'm gonna check out the website you told me about. I calculated my weight x17 and it says that my caloric intake should be 3825. That can't be right. At a 2100 calorie a day diet I should be loosing some major weight already. I WISH!!! I weighed in yesterday at the gym, which I haven't done in a week or so and I gained weight!!!! :( I'm so mad. I'm up to 228. It must of been over the weekend before I decided to get back on track. Today is day #4, and I'm gonna stick to it darn it. I told my husband last night. Not that he holds me accountable or anything. He loves me just the way I am. Thank you God for that. Sometimes I wish he were more help, but I don't blame him for just staying out of it. I tend to be very sensitive over the matter, and will fly off the handle at remarks made.

Thanks for your support and advice.

Were gonna get thru this together guys.

I will get under the 200 mark, which I don't think I have been since I was a teenager.

You guys take care.

God Bless

My BMR

Hey guys thank you for the tips.

Turns out that according to my BMI. I can be consuming 2169 calories and still be loosing weight. After doing the math I realized that my BMI says to maintain I should eat 2669 cal. So it looks like I'm going about it right after all.

I increased my protein yesterday by adding tuna to my lunch and a chicken breast to my dinner, and I felt much more satisfied thruout the day.

Thanks again. I really appreciate the advice.

Nice to hear that you're doing well. And good that you found out about the calorie amounts! :)
It's not uncommon to a) gain weight at first when you start exercising more (it's water that your body retains, because it's kinda shocked about what's happening) b) the scales (particularly if you don't use the same one all the time) to show all kinds of funny numbers short term, but just give it time and you get more reliable results. Terrible Weekend Diet wise

I didn't do so well this weekend. I gave into too many temptations. I had a birthday party:drooling: Cake??? K.F.C. dosent' have anything healthy:mad: But I did make some good decisions. I was able to pass on the cookies and brownies at my home group meeting after church. I opted for veggies and dip and melon instead. But I was feeling very hungry and gave into a crousant:eek: . ..

Will I ever be able to just pass it all up without flinching. ???

Frustrations....

Today my son came down with a flu so I can't make it to the gym...

I'm going to do a floor exercise routine in the house though.

O.K. I said it so now I have to do it right.

Right.

Hope your all doing well. Hope to hear of good results on your weekend. Hopefully better than mine.

I did the same thing this weekend, I made several good decisions (passing on a dessert Saturday night) :) and had several slip-ups, like 2 ice creams on Sunday  You're doing a good job! I hope your son feels better soon!

MOtivate me!!!!

I really thought that coming on this site would help motivate me, but man I'm still strugling in my head to do what I know is right. ANY ONE out there relate?

Hope you all had a good weekend. I of course made some poor decisions, but at least my mind was set to do what is right, and coming here daily puts my eating habits into the forfront of my mind, which is the first step. I need to at least be conciece of the mistakes I'm making before I can do something about it.

Why does my husband make brownies with extra chocolate and rolos in it when he knows I'm trying to loose weight???? Anyone else out there have this problem?

So today is the first day of a new week.

Let's start making our goals for a week to week basis. BABYSTEPS...

This week I will

Eat no sugar>>>

Stay away from fast food, unless it's a salad....

Stay away from fats, butter, cheese:mad: I love cheese:( So hard to stay away from cheese. But I said it so I'm gonna do it....

Get to the gym at least twice.

Go walking with the girls at least once...

Do some sit ups. I swear my stomach is growing daily, and I"m not pregnant...

LORD HELP ME... cause I can't do it on my own...

Maybe this is a bad suggestion, but I'm chiming in because these goals, as a group, seem really lofty . . . would it work for you to plan for a portion of cheese or a portion of a sweet each day so that you don't feel like you're depriving yourself?

So that maybe you'll have an easier time saying no to sweets or cheese all day because you know you're going to have that small portion at dinnertime? That's been my strategy. No doubt I'd lose more if I didn't allow treats, but I'm pretty sure I'd also melt down and quit entirely if I didn't allow myself planned treats.

But, I'm told that for others the way to go is what you're planning - to stay completely away from certain unhealthy temptations.

I guess it's probably a really individual thing. I don't mean to dog your goals at all, I just want to see you feeling good and like you're accomplishing something, because you've already heading in the right direction by being on here. :)

Going to the gym twice this week & getting out for the walk with the girls sound like fabulous ideas. You can do it!
