A question about ABS and WORKING OUT

Hi, I have a question about my abs. I haven't worked out in about a year. I am naturally thin and have a pretty flat stomach. I decided to start working out again on a regular basis of 3 times a week. The first day I worked out, I worked on my abs by doing various situps and crunches. By the next day my abs had swollen and ballooned out and it looked like I had a little pot belly. I have heard before that your stomach can swell like that after doing situps. I am wondering if I am doing something wrong, or if this will go away after awhile of getting back into working out and my stomach will just stay flat? It actually turned me away from working on my abs again because I didn't want to have a big stomach for a few days afterwards because of it, when my stomach is naturally flat on its own. What should I be doing or not doing differently? Whats the deal here?

Can't say that I've heard of the abs ballooning out. So I can't help there. I have heard of people doing ab work and their muscles grow... causing a pot belly look if you tend to be thin in nature. Maybe that is what happened here. Not too sure though because this was after your first time. Hmmm... I would try doing other ab exercises. Try the Plank Pose. That helps to tighten the inner abdominal wall (the muscle responsible for keeping the belly pulled in).

You can check out the Plank pose by doing a Google search or heading over See if that helps at all.

Like Lynn said, start by working the Transverse Abdominis; which is probably on the weak side. Use the plank pose as she suggested and perhaps some vacuums (again searchable on the web).

Until I strengthened my T.A. my belly would stick out some, because I have a thin build.
