A new stage of the journey

wen't into the gym this morning ans spoke to my coach, she is happy with my progress in improving the stability of my right shoulder and rotator cuff (it is almost as good as my left now) but the shoulder is still sitting forward a bit of where it should posture wise and i need to do extra work on rectifying it.

after 20 min warmup on the Dreadmill worked abs and rotator cuff.

I will not be able to do my normal lifts for another week :( coaches orders.

but she was happy with my 80 kg tricep pushdowns yesterday and the way my weight is mooving in the right direction :)

Your still kickin ass Tru:)!!!UGH i do the treadmill at abt 4 I think and inclinded BLAH!!!

lol, I hope to catch ya in chat soon!!!

80kg tricep pushdowns?

Tru, you're a machine! HOLY SHIT! That's a lot of weight ;) I can't do 80 pound tricep pushdowns with good form let alone 80 kilos :p

Go get 'em!!!

LOL i am not known as the Tricep Queen at the gym for no reason :)

one reason why i should be able to kill the bench press with a shirt with a bit more practice is because the shirt takes a lot of the lift away from the chest with more focus in the triceps :)

when I have my skinfold taken on my tris they have a hard time getting a good reading because there is nothing for the calipers to grip :) unfortunately my fat is around the middle :(

I know some pple have a hard time understanding me and i can be rather obsesive at time

That's why I'm always suspicious of caliper bodyfat readings ...

I can be TOTALLY obsessive. In fact I think I'm a little OCD :D

I believe I'm an ISTP ... I'd have to go back and take a look. That's a LONG time ago ...

Exercise - Good
Food - Ok but only because there is no snack food in the house

It has been a completly Fucked up day, and if it wasn't for the fact i would be in seriously big trouble, i feel like ripping some heads off shoulders. :cuss::banghead::cuss::cuss::banghead::boxing:

I HATE THE EDUCATION SYSTEM when it comes to Autistic kids

Tell me about it. :( I used to work at a private school as a Residential Advisor and I have worked with children with various emotional and mental issues. I loved the job, but always was walking on eggshells.

Hope your thumb feels better.

I think I've missed something ...

Do you have an autistic child, Tru? If your system is anything like the system here, it's completely fucked up and unless your child has a bazillion things wrong with them, getting the help you need is like pursuing the impossible dream.

Yes, 2 of my three sons are Autistic. my youngest had a problem at school today (He is in a special education unit) but he is going to be suspended again for a problem that is not his fault and can not control. It was the first day back at school after the hollidays. there are 2 new teachers in the unit and the whole situation was handled very badly, it should not have gotten to the stage of a 9 year old boy needing to be restrained by 4 Adults.

I am not sure how long the suspension will be this time :( i expect about 15 school days.

I'm sorry to hear about what the school is doing. That's not fair. Being restrained by 4 adults? That's not proper procedure. I'm trained in CPI, and that is not proper procedure. I'm not sure if Australian schools has these policies? If so, what I am about to say applies.

It should have only been 2 adults at the most. I would recommend to request a look at the incident report and make sure that your child was restrained with his face upwards. Face downwards is ILLEGAL, (can cause death or permanent brain damage) and charges can be brought up against that.

Also, the fact that 4 adults were involved shows that they did not follow CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute, which is required by law) procedure, period.

There is a little known secret- YOU have the POWER to write on your child's IEP (Individualized Education Program) that restraining is not allowed to be used on your child. I worked with a child with autism that had on his IEP that restraining was not allowed- REGARDLESS of what he did. Any violation would result in firing of that staff member that violated the IEP.

CPI training comes in two parts- Crisis prevention and Restraining. It's the Crisis prevention that the staff failed to do- if they were doing their job correctly, your child would not have had been in that situation in the first place- they would have known how to handle your child properly by knowing what works.

And then, the restraining part, they failed too. There are SPECIFIC techniques that one does, that enables just two adults or even just one adult restrain a child. 4 is excessive and goes against all procedures. Even a skinny female teacher could properly & safely restrain a child, if done properly.

You have the right to demand that they not suspend your son due to what happened. Every right. 15 days is excessive. I had a child with autism bite me 3 times in the arm, and he didn't get suspended at all. Only because I understood that it's just the condition that's the issue, and because it is not right to suspend a child with autism. They will not learn anything from the suspension, only give them nightmares. It's not right.

You might want to consider trying to get it on his IEP that he cannot be restrained and stop the suspension. Because, if the school manages to convince the higher ups that the suspension worked, they will do it again. (The sad part is, it will NOT work, but false results can be permanently recorded on your son's file)

If all else fails, print my message and show it to the 4 staff members that restrained your son and point to this: YOU ALL SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES.

Sincere best of luck,
George

P.s.

I tend to say "Child with Autism", rather than the term "Autistic", as a part of my training- When one uses the term "Autistic Child", people tend to think of the child as a disorder first, then the child last. When one uses "Child with Autism", it reminds people that they are children first, and then they have a disorder second.

I would hope that the staff members at your son's school uses that term "Child with Autism"? If they haven't, they need to be educated.

What you have said spoke volumes to me: that school is NOT suited to deal with children with Autism.

This may help you:

Best wishes,
G

That is so wrong on so many levels ... I can't even begin to comment ..

I'm so sorry to hear that this happened. The bottom line is all it does is punish the kid and he probably doesn't even know why.

What a pile of BS.

we are going to get help from a kids help group where my kids get help from a psychiatrist in addition to their normal paediatrician. they said at our last meeting that they can attend the meetings with us and try and sort this shit out.

even though my husband works for the education department he does not know what the rules are for restraint. but the his work has little to do with students except the time spent coaching the high school chess team.

This made me giggle...Im sorry abt the problems you are having with your som and the school, that sucks, I can relate to a point Ive ben there but not as drastic as you are and have been

:hug2::hug2::hug2:

I hated how my step son was treated and your sons have been treated worse...

On a bit brighter note my 2 other sons had a good return to school and my second son wit ASD likes his new teacher :) which should mean a much smoother year than last year for him YAY, thankfully he is in a mainstream class with only a small amount of extra help needed.

Tru-sorry for the rough spot and I hope you can work through this. It is sad that our schools cannot help these children more effectively in large part due to ignorance. If it is any consolation I hope that the work by parents like you will get the schools better equipped to deal with the large increase of ASD children that are just entering or getting ready to enter the school system now. If its not a consolation go show them your bruises and threaten---ok that would just be my response (not helpuful).

Just popping in to tell you GREAT LOSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am just trying to stay calm today, my youngest is still asleep after the stress yesterday. I will head to the gym tonights when hubby can take care of the kids.
