A new me by Christmas

Hi all,

I joined the forum to help me lose weight and it seemed like it would be a good idea to start a diary on here for everyone to read and encourage me. I also look forward to reading others' diaries too.

I've had lots of past issues with eating and I have insanely low self confidence, mainly because of my weight, so I am here to change that.

I want a healthy relationship with food and my body (and look good!) so here we go....

My current weight is 192 lbs. I am 5'7''.

I want to ultimately weigh 140 lbs exactly by 1st December 2008, so I worked out that from today I have 28 weeks to do that and I need to lose about 1.8 lbs a week. Hopefully won't be too hard.. let's see!

I am however limited in what I can do by way of exercise. Aerobics, running and walking long distances is not possible :( because of a serious ankle injury I have, so any other ideas on how to exercise would be greatly appreciated.

Hope to make some friends here and obviously I hope to lose weight!! I'll go and see if I can find any pics of me to use as befores.

Welcome! I'm pretty new here myself but congrats on taking the first step. Is the elliptical out of the question? What about swimming? (I was rehabbing a really bad knee injury a while back and that was a form of cardio my doctor had rec.)

Me in a swimming costume = EWWW! Haha but no it is fine for me, only problem is finding somewhere that doesn't charge extortionate amounts to use the pool for an hour!

Yes I can do elliptical (so tiring isn't it), but again it's the problem of using one and not paying so much. I'm a student so I'm not very rich but I would consider buying one if I came across a fairly cheap one, hmm.

I sound like I'm making up excuses but I'm really not - I would SO join a gym to use the pool and non-impact machines but they really are so expensive around here:(

Has anyone ever used a big ball thing? Dunno the actual name sorry! Are they any good for exercise? Also I've been recommended a wobble board but they look pretty scary to balance on :O

Ok found some very recent (taken last week at school) photos of me. I've blacked out my face cos it's nasty :p

They show how round my face is and you can see I have quite chubby arms (and small boobs, grr!). I also have HUGE thighs and a big arse but my waist and hips aren't that big in comparison with the rest of me - waist is 32 and hips are 40.

Sorry I don't know how to post pictures so here are links:

I would kill for your curly hair! Mine is all straight and boring haha but the ball is called a stability ball. Before I let myself get all out of shape I used to use one all the time for crunches and roll outs (worked with a trainer). From what I hear people debate back and forth on them but I personally liked it. It helped make the workouts a bit more interesting.

I'll definitely look into one because they don't look like they'd mess up my ankle anymore than it is now haha.

Ha, my hair was soooo frizzy those days. I have to use so much product and blow dry it to make it look nice!

So I weighed myself this morning and I have apparently lost 2 lbs since Sunday! :) Very pleased and hoping it's not just water weight.

An ankle injury is some serious business.

I am not quite sure what you could do, but what i'm thinking is just keeping your diet ON KEY 120%.

I am a believer that what you put in your mouth is what determines how you'll look.

Possibly light walking would be okay for your ankle. I have weak ankles, so I can almost relate. I sprained my left ankle 5-7 times in one school year. And I have flat feet, although i can't do ANYTHING long distance on my feet, i opt for interval training style exercising and weight lifting.

Good luck with your journey.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, I have a check up at the hospital on Thursday so I am going to enquire about the types of exercise I can do that will aid my weight loss. I think that the main thing for now is not eating too much - I am trying to do between 1250 and 1400 calories a day because I think anything more will not help me since at the moment I'm not exercising.

I really need some help!

Today my mum gave me a bag of really yummy looking choccies and I am soo tempted - I haven't opened them yet and they are downstairs but I keep thinking about them and getting cravings.

HELP!!

oh no!!! does she know your trying to change your lifestyle...

seriously i would drink a glass or two of water and try to distract yourself... if all else fails... only indulge in one or two!!!

Well they are 71 cals and 4g of fat each chocolate so I don't really want to eat more than one if I *have* to eat one.. haha.
She knows I am dieting but I think she forgot. I finished school on Friday and I think she wanted to treat me to say well done! Bless her.. but yeh. I might just give them to my boyfriend who is a skinny bastard and needs fattening up :D
I have had a cup of tea and I am distracting myself with revision at the moment (got exams in a few weeks) so hopefully I will be ok lol. Dinner is in about 2/3 hours so if I keep going til then I'll be okay cos I'm prone to sugar cravings during the day but not really in the evening/night.

ARRGH!!

Haha.

i actually graduated from highschool friday!!!

lol... and i agree the skinny bf definitely needs fattened up...lmao!!!

keep up the good work!!!

I feel so obese standing next to him, AND he's tall (6'2'') so he looks even thinner :( Haha..

Yay go us for graduating :D You going to university or anything this year? Take my mind off the chocolate lol :p

That is the dress I want for my prom but I am not going to be able to buy it unless I get down to a size 14, and I am a size 16 at the moment. These are UK sizes btw. Prom is 2nd of July.. so that's about 5/6 weeks to get down a dress size.... I really, really want to do it!!!

omgosh my bf back in germany was 6'2" and looked like a twig... but i mean he was a twig... but my bloblike form looked terrible next to his muscular/lean football/baseball/golf/tennis body... lmao!

i just looked at the dress and it is gorgeous... by the time you do the conversion rate its like $300 ... haha i also checked out the sizes... soo 14 is the highest size they have??? looks like you have no other choice lol...

do you ever watch "you are what you eat" ? seriously i would follow what they do... 2 stone in 8 weeks just by changing their diets really... and i think a size is like 10 pounds between each... but that would depend on height and where the excess weight is...

Well at the moment I am a medium size 16, if I wore that dress as a size 14 in all honesty it would *probably* be okay, just a bit tight around the top. My boobs are quite small, they're a B cup each, so they'd fit; it's just the straps around the top and bottom of the part where the breasts go that might be tight!! I am going to try and lose enough to be a size 14 though, you never know might even get to a size 12 :D Luckily dresses are quite forgiving because you don't have the hips/thigh issue!

Anyone got any arm exercises? Mine are sooo fat and flabby, they are the worst part of me. I need to tone them up :(

That is one gorgeous dress!!! I really hope that you buy it :) Im sure that you will def fit into the 14 :hurray:

You seem to be doing all the right things and well done on the 4lbs you have lost so far :D Some arm exercises that have worked for me are tricep curls (hold a lightweight dumbell above your head and move your hand slowly toward you neck, then raise and straighten your arm. Repeat 10 times then switch arms. Do 3 sets every day and you will soon see a big difference!)

Press ups are also really good for the whole arm. If you find it too difficult to raise your whole body then you can do them kneeling instead.

Hope this is some help! Good luck with the exams!!

Allie x
