A new beginning

Okay, here goes. Well, I have read all of your diaries and they are all very interesting and informative. I decided I may as well make a diary to hold myself accountable. A little history. I was always pretty fit. When I got pregnant with my first son I never even used maternity clothes (complicated pregnancy). He is now 16 years old and 6'1. Amazing since he was only 4 pounds at birth. I actually lost weight the day after I had him and was a size smaller then before pg. Then had second son. That pregnancy also difficult but was in maternity clothes within two months. (almost lost both our lives in that birth) I am not sure how much I weighed but it was a lot. Husband is a truck driver so I basically raised the kids myself, work full time and run hubby's trucking business. I have decided that it is time to take care of me. I have been working out for the past two months 3 to 5 times a week, whenever I can fit it in. I do cardio for 45 min to 1 hour and then ab work and weights. I work out to tapes and treadmill. I have cleaned up my eating pretty good, could still use some improvement in that area, but am happy with the results so far. I don't own a scale and don't belong to a gym do I go by the size of my pants and belt. So far, I have lost 4 belt loops, does that make any sense? Well, my problem now is that I have hurt my foot somehow. It has been bothering me for about a week. Nothing terrible just an irritable pain. Almost like the only thing that you would need to do to get rid of it is to crack it like when you get your back cracked. So last night I tried to tone down the step aerobics and took it easy. I could only get through about 35 min before it started to bother me too much. I know, I should go to the doctor but who has time for them. Anyway, it is feeling much better today but I was wondering what type of cardio exercise could I do until this heals fully? I think I should give it a rest for a few more days. I would like to thank you all for any advice. The information that you all provide is great and I have learned a lot.

Well, here is what my eating has been like, feel free to help me tweek it.

B - Peanut butter pita
S - 1/2 of a Luna protien bar
L - Tuna salad on pita and a few prezels.
S - 1/2 of Luna protein bar
D - Chx breast with brown rice or salad

That is what I have usually been eating, it may vary but not too much.

Again, thanks for all of your input and please help me stay on track.

Wow, you've been through alot!! Glad everything had a great outcome! Sounds like you've got things going in a good direction, I can't really offer advice- just encouragement!! :D Others will give you the advice you need, they're all great here!! Looking forward to seeing you through your journey!!

Thanks Shellsy. I am really looking forward to a new beginning and a healthier lifestyle. Got a busy weekend ahead with the fair in town but it should be fun.

Welcome to the forum and we're here if you need us. Your food looks good. Eat protein and drink lots of water. Don't forget carbs too. Keep writing down what you eat and maybe start counting your calories, but that's up to you.

Thanks She.

So far today I have had a slice of bread with peanut butter. No time for a good breakfast. Going out to lunch today to a local pub. Think I will have a salad and grilled chicken breast with ice tea. I am a real soda drinker but have really been trying to cut back. Probably not going to have a real great dinner as we are going to the derby races and will probably have fair food for dinner.

No exercise last night or tonight, but I did walk around the fairgrounds until my foot started hurting then went home and iced it. Feels better today but I think I will still give it a little rest before I get back to regular cardio. Would palites (sp) be okay to do until this heals? I guess I am thinking that it is some kind of exercise. I have never done it but I do have the dvd's.

I have been drinking a lot of water. How many ounces of water a day should one drink?

Thanks for all your advice.

Well, I made it through another weekend. It wasn't so great but also not terrible. Had to buy a pair of pants for a benefit I had to go to and bought a size down. WOO HOO. My nieces came for the weekend, a surprise visit, ages 6, 9, 14 and 21 and stayed with me for the whole weekend. That made for 9 people in my house all weekend. Boy am I tired. Well, I hope that I am back on track with workouts as my foot seems to feel better. Will start with a nice easy workout tonight.

B: toast with PB
S: None
L: Chicken breast, cottage cheese, celery
S: None
D: Don't know yet

Have to get hair cut tonight so that will determine how much time I have left for exercise.

Sounds like you have been making alot of progress on your own before here, congratulations. How old are your other children? I have four myself although a little younger than yours. Keep up the great work.

If at all possible, try to fit your exercise in early in the day to help avoid that. I'm the queen of over planning my day and exercise is the first thing to go!!

Missy - Thank you. My two children are 16 and 13. Both boys and they are wonderful.

Shellsy - I wish I could get the exercise in the morning, but it doesn't work out for me. I would have to get up at 4:00 a.m. As it is, I get up at 5:30 and that is early enough for me. I tried it for awhile but I got too tired during the day. I usually work out right when I get home from work, then cook dinner, etc. I really envy those who can get their buts out of bed and hop right to the exercise.

I did get a short workout in last night when I got home.

hi new:)
we have one thing in common,we both like pB and bread in morning;)
welcome

Thanks for the welcome slimsadie. I read that you bought the Slim in Six vidoes. How do you like them. I just ordered them before I read your post but haven't gotten them yet. I should get them sometime this week.

Welcome to the forum - have you thought about making your breakfast bigger? It might give a bigger kick start to your metabolism.

I actually have thought of that, but since I am the only one up for breakfast during the summer, I don't make much. However, now that school is getting ready to start, I will start making good breakfasts for me and the kids. We will see if that helps things more. I have a pretty good amount of energy during the day right now so when I get home from work I am ready for a work out. I really appreciate all the input that you all give. Please keep it coming.

Yeah if nothing else some oatmeal and fruit would be a great start... Just get the old-fashioned ones, not the quick stuff...

Okay, last night I did windsor pilates. I don't much care for it because it doesn't feel like I am accomplishing anything. I don't get my heart rate up at all but I wanted to make sure I didn't hurt my foot any further either. I have an appointment tomorrow to have it checked out. I finally got the time to go to the doctor. Anyway, today so far I have had lowfat yogart and a small handful of almonds for breakfast. Running late so that was all I had time for and I wasn't really hungry anyway. No snack. For lunch I had tuna salad on whole wheat pita and carrots. They have these new single carrot packs at the store now, organic with a side of ranch dip. Didn't like the dip so I skipped that. Well that it is so far but I don't think that is too bad. I know I need to eat more for breakfast but I have never been a breakfast kind of gal. I will try more when the kids get in school next week. Not sure what I am making for dinner tonight. Depends on if the kids are going to be home or not. My exercise will be light again tonight until I hear what the doctor says but I think I will do some upper body and ab. Still not much for the cardio and I miss that but I don't really want to make things worse with the foot. Is there any kind of cardio exercise that will not irritate my foot? If so, please let me know. Thanks all.

Well, cancelled the doctors appointment for today as my foot is feeling much better. It actually felt pretty good last night so I went ahead and did a low impact step tape for 30 min, 15 min abs and 15 min upper body. Felt good to really get back at it.

B - not much, just a couple of crackers. Not real hungrey.
S - None. I never seem to have time for this with work.
L - Tuna and a salad. Not sure if I will put the tuna in a pita or just east it plain.
S - probably no time for that either
D - hamburger strogonoff, salad

Not too sure about my work out tonight as hubby will be getting home and not sure what the plans are. Maybe I can just get him out walking with me.
