A journal to loose 40lbs

Hello All,
My name is Amy and I am starting a journey to loose 40lbs. My current weight is the heighest it has ever been at 178 (I'm 5'6). My final goal is between 135-138.
I currently lead a pretty sedentary life, at work I sit at a computer all day and at home I watch TV and read.
Over the last few weeks I have been really thinking about how carrying the extra weight has been effecting me - low self esteem, not wanted to go out, tired, sore feet and knees. It is time for a change! I am planning on updating this forum once a week with weight and food choices (good and bad) over the week. I have enjoyed reading other's posts for insipration and advice.
I am also particpating in the 100 day challenge (starting today) - where you have to do something active for at least 30 minutes for 100 days in a row!
Here are my ideas to loose this weight;

- watch my calories (between 1500-1800 per day?)
- 40 minutes of cardio 6-7 days a week
- daily walks
- pilates/yoga
- less junk food
- more water

Does anyone else have ideas?

Hello Amy, welcome to the Forum!! Glad to have you aboard! :) :eh:

For your weight & sedentary lifestyle atm, 1500-1800 is a good amount of calories for you.

You can always try for a rest day as well, away from all the hard work, so that your body has some time to heal.

Maybe even give yourself a *Free Day/High Day/Eat in Moderation Whatever you'd like kind of day* that can really take the mind off of the cut calories. Have an extra meal out or which ever you'd like to do too. :)

Baby Steps are the key. If it seems like too much at first, it probably is, easy does it, take off one or two things, they eventually all add up in the end.

Good Luck & Keep us posted!

Take Care

Thank for the advice Running Girl!
I like your idea of one free day a week.

So here is an exercise update;

November 19th -20 minutes on tread climber
November 20th - 25 minutes on tread climber
November 21st - none
November 22nd - none
November 23rd - 30 minutes on tread climber

As for eating I would say that I am doing ok, not great but not terrible.

Weight as of Monday November 23 - 174.5

Does anyone have motivation ideas?

Thanks for listening!

~Amy

Hi Amy.

RG has good advice. I take a free day every week myself - not a go crazy kind of day, but a day that I allow myself to have my favorite foods w/out stressing about calories. It helps me stay on track the rest of the week.

I'd suggest you add some weight lifting into your plan. Try lifting weights 2x or 3x a week and then filling in around that with your cardio. You'll find that the shape of your body will change faster - and you'll get that long, lean look that people refer to as "toned" ...

Thank you Kara for the advice!
My husband has one of those bow flex machines, I think I might try to figure it out.
