a Hillbilly diary

First of all I want to thank everyone for your support the last few days. sometimes when you have so much to lose it gets to you. losing so much weight sometimes seems impossible. When I think I have to lose a whole person it just really gets to you. Well anyway I just wanted to thank yall.

Well welcome to a brand new day.....

I'm right there with ya, babe, I know what you're going thru.. and you're ahead of me so I'm just catching up... you'll get there... step by step... :) maybe set smaller goals rather than the one that's way at the end of the line... (mine seems really really far off...)

Lee,

I'll just throw this out here for ya and judge it for what it's worth.

I ditched my wheat pasta and here's why:

The calories per serving AND the carbs per serving aren't so substancial that a trade-off is worth the sacrifice. Portion control and a side dish additive are the key to keeping pasta within your diet.

I never make ANY pasta meal a stand-alone meal in itself. I get 4-5 meals out of a 12oz box of spaghetti and I always have a salad or a can of cold beets or peas (fiber) with every pasta meal. Of course I've sworn off bread of all kinds so that's a non-issue and a major plus to enjoying a pasta meal too. Any day you know you're gonna push extra carbs in the belly, you have to adjust for it before, during and after that meal.

You couldn't give me a box of wheat pasta but that's just me. Anytime I can keep what I want in my diet and it's just a matter of portion control, thy will be done. A taste-pleasing diet is a diet you'll stick with.

Well brother trucker ill tell ya. I tried it because its supposed to be better for you. As it was cooking I glanced at the box and I didn't see a huge difference between that and the normal semolina pasta out there on the market. It was OK but not sure about the taste and texture. I like my pasta kinda aldente' or slightly under cooked and this no matter how long you cooked it, it just wasn't quite right. Now most of my diet is portion control. The reason the Atkins didn't work for my is I love my potatoes and pasta and starches. Now I just cut the starches I can and always try and use portion control. I'm trying to turn it into a way of eating or a way of life rather just another diet...

I really need to stop by this place more often cause I really like the way you think. Too many times I feel like the only one in a forum of people still eating pasta. Lol! I love that Barilla angel hair pasta cooked al dente. That's what I'm having tonight actually. (Shhh! Don't tell the others! ;) ) With a huge salad. (Definitely don't tell anybody that cause I'm supposed to watch my leafy greens with the med I'm on.) Don't worry, we'll get through this without giving up all our yummy starches. Now I better get outta here before I tell you too many secrets. Lol! :p

stop by anytime ms. hypo ill keep fresh salad fixings in the back of the fridge. oh yea plenty of pasta hidden in the pantry behind the canned carrots lol...

Should be less than 2000 calories, In theory anyhow.

Breakfast----- 2 fried eggs (no cal cooking spray), 2 slices of turkey bacon, and 2 piece of wheat toast. {70-70-35-35-70-70}
(350 calories)

Lunch---- Lean Cuisine- Beef pot roast with veggies and whipped potatoes
(190 calories)

Dinner--- Baked chicken (skinless) thigh with a mustard based BBQ seasoning, left over wheat pasta with a home made sauce

Drinks- water, 16 ounces of milk
(260 calories)

Total------ 800 calories + what was in the dinner

Lee,
I absolutely understand what you're talking about when we look at the long road horizon and our goal seems so far off.

But the only way to get there is one day at a time, and that's what yo're doing! You've lost 43 pounds!! Just try walking through walmart with two 20 pound bags of dog food - you'll get a GREAT appreciation for what you've already accomplished!!

It's one meal at a time, each and every day - you CAN and WILL do this :)

M2M is right - take it just one day at a time, and you are going to get there! Heck, you already lost a whole person! A five-year-old! You only have to do that four more times, and you will have lost a pee-wee basketball team AND reached your goal!!! You can do it!

Well I keep looking down that looooong road. I'm trying to look just 10 pound or 20 pound short goal. Once I get into the lower part of the 300's I think it'll be much better. Think its all just a slight case of man-a-pause

Ummm.... Is that an invitation to a cyber-meal? Lol! ;) :D

No arguing there Lee, when I was well into the 2nd hour of boiling that nasty 'skeedy', I knew I wasn't gonna like it. That stuff really blows.

I miss all the good tasting starchy stuff too, even now. I just deal with it too, really no other option is there. If there was a french fry diet out there, I'd be on it lol :p

Ms. hypo LOL you bet anytime.

Trucker Im finding i just dont do "diet food." thought about switching from 2% mik to skim but it looks more like whiteish water than milk. I have tried soy and ummmm thank you no.

Yeah, I tried skim milk too once, And that was also the last time! But I have no problem giving up milk now since it makes me sick... Plus it has puss in it! yeuch!

-K-

I can do skim milk because I grew up on it, but I do know at college when the caterers ran out of skim they used to add water to regular milk and stir. Still, I made instant pudding this weekend and for 120 calories I had an awful lot of skin milk butterscotch pudding and whipped cream.

well night, Being from a german family and having blood sausage and things like that a little but of puss in a glass of milk I can deal with.

cannon yea the calories for a 8 ounce glass of 2% is 120-130 depending on the brand. I looked up some skim on the calorie counter and it was like 85 for a cup. I have come way down on my milk in take. well today I had a double serving of it but the norm is just a splash or two over my cereal.

We can eat that forbidden (this is the shocker) not-wheat pasta! ROFL! ;) :D

You are from a German family? Me too! My greatgrandparents on my mom's side were German. They both passed away when my grandmother was young though so I didn't get to grow up with any German traditions. How sad. :( I don't mind missing the blood sausage though!

Ms. Hypo thats one of those things you learn to like before you know what it is lol. My dads 1/2 German 1/2 Irish but our family mostly leaned toward the German side. Nothing against the Irish (God thank you for guinness) But it was a German town and thats just the way it was. My moms side is mostly Native American. So I'm German/Irish/Indian man thats a hell-ova combination. Its not bad though The German leaves me light complected, the Irish in me gives me one helluva temper and the Indian well humm oh yea I only have to shave once every three weeks.

LMAO!!!! HBL, I was just catchin' up on your diary and almost peed my pants! TOTALLY unexpected!!! LOL

Now that I've got my breath back....

You're doing great! :D I have to say that although I like German food (love it actually) you can KEEP the blood sausage! BLECH! LOL I wish I only had to shave once every three days!!! That would be heaven ;) Well, I COULD get away with it but it wouldn't be pretty!! LOL :D:D

Have a great day!

Lee, you could have been like me and got all 3 of those things from being Irish. I'd also include extremely thin hair to the list :). Actually, I don't have much of a temper.
