Ok. Here is what I look like at 180lbs. I'm not proud of this pic. I know it certainly won't win me any dates, but I am hoping to include a series of pics illustrating my progress (or lackthereof) towards becoming fitter over the next few months. My goal to to reach 160Lbs of trim man flesh.

Is it possible?

yay for man flesh :D

and nice skivvies :D
RAWR!!

welcome to your diary and to the forum - I wish you all the success in the world in getting where you want to be :D

Have you come up with a plan to get you on the right path?

My fitness routine is simple:

I have a cycle - For 2 weeks I eat a restricted calorie diet of about 1200-1500 calories a day. During this time I do cardio at the gym for an hour each day, usually the eliptical machine. This is my fat-loss cycle. After 2 weeks I change into a muscle-gain program where I go the the gym for at least an hour each day and do a weight program designed to build muscle (not tone or maintain). At this time I allow myself to eat more food - between 2000 and 2300 calories a day. When this cycle is done I return back to the weight loss cycle - reapeat until thin.

Of course the calories I eat are of good quality. Not junk food or other rubbish.

Thanx for you enthusiasm! Hopefully the pics I post will only get better. In all honesty my dream is to become an adonis type. Not huge muscles, but enough to get the ladies interested when my clothes are off.

your plan sounds like a good idea to me. then you wont feel as if youre depriving your body too much by calorie bouncing :)
good luck

Not huge muscles, but enough to get the ladies interested when my clothes are off.

Whether i am a lady or not is questionable on most days -but what gets a ladies interest is confidence, sense of humor and intelligence - what's underneath the clothes is secondary.

however if having the body you want gets you some extra confidence then rock on :D

however if you do want to be treated like a tasty piece of man flesh desired only for your booty :D then well - double rock on :D

Oh, methinks I'd like that just fine :)

I'm really quite vain and I'd like to get as much attention as possible. Aside from that I'd like to have more energy and just be generally healthier. I truly beleive that if I can get into better shape I will feel better about myself and just be a better person for it.

Thanx fo ryour comments ;)

Mal,

I need to go do some more reading of your posts. hehehe.

f2f,
It is totally possible to get where you want to go and get the attention that you desire based on body alone. But it takes more than an amazing body to hold that attention (of course that is assuming you are wanting that, ha).

Good luck on your endeavors.

P.S. I see you have a goal, but do you have a specific date that you wish to reach your goal?

Yes I do have a self imposed deadline of mid May - I think that this gives me plenty of time considering it's only February and mid May is 13 weeks away. Do you think that this is not enough time? The deadline is completely arbitrary, I figured it would be nice to be fitter for Summer.

Well, you are going for 20 lbs by May 13 and I'm going for basically 30 by June 9.

I was trying for 6lbs a month for 6 months. ..ha. Not sure I'll reach that now with what's happening lately. hehehe

Why? What's going on?

I'm hoping for 8 lbs a month, but I'd be satisfied with 6/month. After 13 weeks of that I guess I'd lose.... carry the 2... uh... 18lbs! Pretty good!

Here's a kicker: my goal of 160 is just the first step. I'd actaully like to be 150 or 145. I'm trying to be underweight actaully. Is this wrong?

I know... I could be a bit disturbed. I'm willing to listen to anyone's insight on this matter though ;)

How tall/old or young, whichever you prefer, are you? What is the healthy weight range for someone of your height? Do you know? ... Underweight? Hmm, I guess each of us have our own reasons, but why do you want to be underweight? Do you want to be thin/wiry or thin/muscular?

Also, you have to be doing it for you, because not all chicks like the super thin and somewhat muscular guys.

If you have checked out my diary (or haven't) you'll see that I'm eating between 1300-1500 cals and doing some exercise (jogging/running) and some abs and leg workouts...and I've managed to gain .5 lbs this past week. It's ok though because I know if I continue, I'll see a difference.. just gotta!

Personally, I don't think I have ever been considered underweight, and when I did lose weight in high school and got around 122 I looked sickly, so I put on 6-10 lbs and it was great. If only...... ::daydreams::...

How tall/old or young...

I'm exactly 6 feet tall and my age is 28. I will be 29 in April.

I want to be svelte muscled... I don't think I have the frame for being an emo stick man. I already get a lot of attention from people - I'm exotic looking and I can be rather charming (to blow my own horn for a bit). I have just always wanted my body to match how I feel - and I feel inside liek a million bucks ;-)

I just want to be healthy looking - something that is right for my frame - not sure what that is though, as I have been about 20/30lbs overweight since my early teens.

According to Wikipeida's entry on BMI I am just shy of being considered overweight as my current BMI is about 24.4 (according to my little progress bar below - overweight is 25 and higher) I'd like to be around a 22 or 21, but I guess that all depends on my musculature. Currlently I have a lot of muscle in my lower body but not much to match it on top. I'm interested in changing that. This is why I am doing a cyclical excercise/eating routine. It goes like this:

2 weeks ~1500 calories/day and an hour of rigorous cardio via an eliptical machine - depending on the brand of machine I use I burn betwixt ~650 and ~850 calories per session. I do this 7 days a week. I'm a student that sits on his ass all day thinking and typing and surfing the net - so a gym visit is also mental therepy.

then

2 weeks ~2500 high quality calories/day and rigorous weight training. Not sure how many calories I burn doing this, but I exhert until fatigue using increasingly heavier weights each session. I shoot for mass gain in these sessions so I aim to hit failure at about 8/12 reps per muscle group.

When this is done I go back to my previous cycle of ~1500 calories/day and cardio... rinse, reapeat, etc.

The idea for this routine is 2 fold; I have something to look forward to (either eating more food, or not having the pain of weights/recovery). Also using this technique will force my body to constantly update itself. less chance that I will fall into a "rut" when I am shocking my system with varied styles of excercise.

What do y'all think?

well, I'm kinda doing a type of HIIT, but on a different schedule. When I'm doing cardio I really give'r. I am at _least_ 80% intensity for 60 minutes straight. Then whem I'm on my weight routine... That's like the lower intensity cardio wise.

How's the HIIT working out for you? What is your technique?

I just started. Only tried once, so I am working on getting my speeds worked out. I will be working on sprint speed and the cool down speed and need to get them right so that I can program a profile into my treadmill.

I was of the understanding that the good thing about HIIT is making your body have to switch between full force and then a cool down speed in a repeated sequence, which means your body works harder to push it close to max and then slower and burns more calories. So you do, your sprint for a full minute and then cool down a full minute and repeat that for X amount of times.

The program you are following is a full 60 minutes of Cardio at 80%?

It seems like you are saying your 2 weeks of cardio at 80% and then 2 weeks of strength training are your intervals?

Yup, a full 80% for cardio. Anything less and it just feels like I am holding back. It's probably got a lot to do with the music I listen to while I cardio...

Yah, I consider my intervals to be 2 weeks apart. I was not thinking that it was HIIT technique, I was just considering that my intervals are similar to HIIT, but just on a much broader timescale. You are doing it micro and I am doing it macro ;-)

Yeah no kidding. What gets you pumped for your cardio (musically that is)?

Not sure if you listen to Disturbed, but I was really enjoying one of their albums while running the other day.

Also, what are you studying? I'm also a student as well.

I don't listen to any partucular band/group. I just get some house/jungle/garage from internet radio stations and put it on my iPod. Pretty much anything 140bpm+ works for me ;) I have never heard of Disturbed. They pump u up?

I study media and device design. My background is film and computer science - basically I'm in inventor's graduate school. Technically I'm in school of architecture, but I design devices and interactions, not spaces or buildings. What do you study?
