A Girl has got to eat.

heya girl,
glad to see your doing great as always!

thanks for stopping by my diary, yep i feel really good about having done 60mins on the elliptical yesterday (of course i do it at really low resistance and a slow pace since i'm just starting on it, but it still keeps the heart rate up which is great! and i think my body is responding positively to it because it's a new machine i'm doing as of this week).

which brings me to my next question...the dreaded AMT machine which you are the queen of (65 mins my goodness!).

question 1) now, i wanted to ask, you know how the AMT has two motion settings, i wanted to know if you use it as the stepper/stair climber option or similar to the elliptical option where its like your running in the air kinda motion? the few times i tried it i tried the stepper motion and could only do upto 1min 20secs (which used to really get me down so i gave up on the machine altogether). i never bothered trying it as the elliptical motion ....but now that i've started using the elliptical machine i'm wondering if i should try attempting to use the AMT in that way as well.

okay as you can tell i'm horrible at describing stuff but i hope you get my question?

question 2) which do you find easier the elliptical or the AMT?

my apologies for bombarding you with the questions...i just feel like the AMT laughs at me everytime i look at it lol!

Kori, the AMT is a piece of exercise equipment which stands for adaptive motion trainer. Some people call it the eliptical on steroids. It's a zero impact exercise machine that burns massive calories. It basically adapts to your movement.

lol Cherry, the key is to laugh right back at the bastard machine! ;)

As for your questions, I do not mind answering them at all. Like I've said before, I think you're doing an incredible job and if I can help in any way, I'm more than happy to do so.

Ok, so I'm willing to bet that after doing the treadmill and now the eliptical for 60 minutes!! your legs are broken in and can handle the AMT for at least 10 minutes. If not, Try for 5. See it's a little bit different for me because I started out on the AMT and then went to the eliptical. After doing the AMT, I found the eliptical easier to use than the first time I tried it due to building my body up. I suspect the same will be the case for you. I do remember though when I first used the AMT I did whatever motions I could to just get through it. By the way, there are more than 2 different movements. Stepping and running are the most common, but you can jog, and even move backwards... the machine adjusts to your movements. So my advice is to move whatever way you can on there to make it to your goal time. Keep doing it and you'll get a feel for the machine. Oh and keep the resistance level at 1. But yeah, you can try using eliptical movements on the AMT and see if it's easier for you. When you get tired, maybe try stepping? I put it on interval level. lol. I'm at 20 for stepping and 17 for running. Each little green dot is 1 minute. On the interval level it goes 2 minutes on each level. I think you might like that variety once you get into the machine. Ok, I am rambling!!

As for your last question, which do I find easier? I think they're both intense. Right now I just increased on the AMT and I can only run for 1 out of every 4 minutes at a level 17, I step for the other minute on level 17 and then I step at 20 for the remaining 2. It kicks my ass, which reminds me of the other name they call it: "butt buster" lol

I'm not sure what kind of elipticals you have, but we have new ones with a crossramp setting and a resistance setting, so it's like a stepper too when you put the crossramp up to 20. Admittedly, this also kicks my ass, but I find that I burn more calories on the AMT than on the eliptical, so I do the AMT for my major cardio of the day.

I hope you can make sense out of my long-winded answers!

hey girl,
thanks a million for the response! and no it wasn't too long and winded, i understood it just fine.

i'll defintely give the AMT another shot soon, i'll do like you said and try to make 5mins my first target....i've only used it as a stepper so will try move more next time to try a different motion.

and thanks a bunch for clarifying about the elliptical crossramp thing. so far i've only used the resistance button and kept wondering what the crossramp button meant...i think once i'm used to it completely i'll try increasing crossramp as well.

wow, everyday i see your ticker and i'm amazed, you really are a major motivator! xoxo

I know this entry is a bit old now, but WAY TO GO! You're an inspiration to us all!
It's also good to hear someone else is in the same boat regarding the opposite sex. Since college I've grown more confident with myself but I still can't fathom a man I find suitable to be attracted to me. I don't want to lose weight for a guy but I do want to know what it's like to flirt with a guy and not worry about him calling me a fatass or something behind my back.
I obviously am just as confused and shy as you are, but maybe someday we can look back at these insecurities and laugh! :)

Thanks, Cherry! Glad I could help :)

Thank you, Lauraine. It's nice to know that I'm not the only confused one out there! Hopefully soon, very soon, we can look back and laugh at all this nonsense.

Today is my weigh day, and I wasn't sure what to expect since I had such a big number last week, but I dropped 4 pounds and it's a magic number that FINALLY puts me with less than 100 pounds to lose. I'm so relieved and now I'm in the 230s! Yeah so what if it's 239, it's still the 230s! :p

My next mini goal is 225. Once I hit 225, my BMI will be in the 30s. I am going to work my ass off this week and the next!

YMCA,

Wow, congratulations! 4 lbs is awesome. I'm so happy for you. :)

Keep it up, you'll be down to your goal in no time. :)

wooo hoooo Partay! I'll bring the no fat Cream Cheese dip :p

Yay for getting to the 230's!!! :D

The way you are powering that 225 will come up in Nooooo time!!!

:D

Sorry been missing out and haven't stopped ina few. The AMT is one of my faves actually. I didn't even know what it was called until I stopped in here actually. There is another trainer that kicks my butt called an Arc Trainer (Cybex?) that gives a pretty good workout too, particularly if you go with the full body motion version. I like both better than a traditional elliptical.

That being said, I'd rather be outside cycling than staring at a wall or TV screen...

Thank you, M_Marie, Dreaming, and Kori. You guys are such great support. All of you!

Hi Cabbie, I have heard about the Arc trainer, but we don't have one at the gym, so right now I stick with the AMT and it still kicks my ass. I hear you about bicycling. I'm just getting into that now, but I dont have the best of bikes. I'm not going to let that stop me though. I can still practice with the hills and building up my body and it must be working because I'm always huffing and puffing and sweating by the time I'm done lol.

Anyway, it's been a stressful couple of days and I'm trying desperately not to use food to cope. Yeserday was a bad day. I had almost 70 grams of fat and nearly 2000 calories. Today however, I feel I am back on track. Hopefully writing in this journal will help me become more aware of my pitfalls and more importantly how to avoid them.

I just found your diary today and am so glad I did! I was just starting to get despondent about losing weight but it's so nice to see there are people out there who are conquering mountains and kicking their fat's ass!

Good on you! You are my new inspiration guru!! :waving:

Hi Shinsplint :) Thanks for taking the time to post a comment in my journal. It's funny how when we start to feel all blah, all it usually takes is to pop in on this message board and read around a little. I get a lot of strength from many people here and I'm really happy to provide a little too!

So about my weekend so far, yesterday I bought a bicycle. A cheap mountain bike for 8 dollars at a garage sale. lol. Yes, I'm on a budget! Here's the thing though, it works like a charm. I got up at 5am and did 30 minutes and then at 7:15 did another 20. I'm not sure how many miles I did total, but given the routes I took, I'd wager a guess at somewhere between 6-8. I really need an odometer. Anyway, I should probably take this thing into a proper bike shop and get it tuned up, especially if I'm going to be putting on mileage. I'm pretty proud of myself for going up hills that I haven't tackled before. My legs were on fire, but damn if it wasn't a nice burn.

Hey Girly,

Sorry that you've been having some stressful days, but glad that you're getting back into your groove.

Wow, an 8 dollar bike? That's a great find! Good idea about getting it tuned up though. I wish I could find an 8 dollar bike. I haven't rode a bike in so long. But I used to love it.

Anyway, hope you're having a nice weekend. :)

Hey Ms Y.. wow.. SCORE on the $8 bike!!! I would love a bike too, but it is out of the budget right now, maybe I should check out garage sales.. mmmmm

Anyway, glad you are going so great!!!! and I hear ya on the 2000 day.. had one of those myself yesterday >_< OH well.. lol back on that horse we get!!

:seeya:

8 WHOLE dollars you say? OK let's watch it with the spending there, we are in times of crisis!! :biggrinjester:

Seriously though, I am envious. I once spent hundreds of dollars on a bike and it turned out I couldn't even ride it! :p

Way to go on those hills!

lol Ladies, I'm really happy with the bike. I noticed my ass was real sore, but apparently the only cure for that is to ride more. :)

I feel very accomplished today. At the gym I finally burned 1111 (no kidding) calories on the AMT and did 6.03 miles in 65 minutes. I'm also noticing that the sprinting is starting to get just a little bit easier for the 1 minute mark at a resistance of 17, but I don't think I'm quite ready to try for 2. Not yet.

In other news, there was some talk today that we're going to an amusement park at the end of June. I love rides, and I haven't been there in 15 years. I checked their website and it says if you're under a size 20, you should be safe to ride as far as fitting into the seats and all that stuff goes. Well, I am practically out of 20s right now and mostly into 18s. Here's to hoping by the end of the month I'll be comfortably down in size to have myself a blast!!

Holy Cow woman... 1111 :gnorsi: You are amazing!!! :D WTG!

I do wish I could get motivated to exercise LOL .. ahhh well, maybe when I have lost a bit more!

Woo hooo on the amusement park! That should be fun for you, I don't really care for the rides myself, (big ole scardy cat) but I hope you have fun, and it must be gratifying to know that things that would not have been possible a while ago.. now are!!! :D

I agree with Kori, 1111 cals is AMAZING. Way to go :)

It's good that you'll be able to go on those rides at the amusement parks. Wow, 15 years, this must be awesome for you. I know that it's a common fear for most bigger folks that you might not be able to fit or something and be really embarrassed. It must be gratifying to know that you won't have to go through any of that. :)

Hey Chick!! An $8 bike huh? that's kinda cool, you could spend more than that just on the cycle computer... I use a couple different types of computers. I have some by Cateye, very good, very reliable, and one made by Schwinn, which was reliable up until this year, but it isn't the fault of the computer, I accidentally think I pulled the wire and broke the connection...

Anyway they can be had pretty cheap, about $10 at Walmart for the schwinn.

I started a cycling club thread if you are interested in logging mileage and such.

As far as seats and asses are concerned... well.. you have to work that one out, but saddle time does help - to a point.
