A Fresh Start...

Good eating

Hey there Fresh; looks like you're eating good things, last post it looked like you need to eat on the run that day, hence the bars. They look like healthy bars and sound yummy. Hurray for a week without chocolate!! I hear ya on that one. Your caloric intake looks quite reasonable. Try to grab a fruit or salad somewhere in your day...as I remind myself at the same time...

Ahh, so that nice looking chap is a friend, not a boyfriend...gotcha. He reminds me of a boy I knew in grade six, from the Phillipines. He bought me a necklace when my family moved from Vancouver to Saskatchewan. Sweet.

Self esteem

Dear Fresh Start

Believe in yourself. If your intuition tells you that you have a problem then trust it, not others. I'm about 40 years older than you are and it took me a long time to understand why I had a weight problem - I am a recoverying overeater and sometime binger.

Just as you did I too thought that I needed to be perfect when I was younger. I also thought that if people knew the real me, they wouldn't like me. I felt as if I was fooling everyone and didn't want them to find out.

Finally, I realized I was only fooling myself. The good news about getting older is that what other people think is no longer part of my radar. Maybe since you are part of this group now, you will realize this earlier in your life than I did.

Seek out all the help you can get. No points are given for "going it alone" and its so much easier to share goals when supported by people who understand. Not sure if we are permitted to reference 12 step programs but I have participated in several for different periods of time. Some were better than others but each was helpful in its own way. Its just one of the free resources out there. Talk therapy can be very helpful and so can a trainer.

Believe in yourself - even when there is a little voice inside that challenges that belief. Thoughts only have the power you give them so focus on thoughts that help you. The song "I Whistle a Happy Tune" explains this so well. I've included the lyrics below in case you don't know the words.

You can do it - in fact, you already are!

Whenever I feel afraid
I hold my head erect
And whistle a happy tune
So no one will suspect
I'm afraid.

While shivering in my shoes
I strike a careless pose
And whistle a happy tune
And no one ever knows
I'm afraid.

The result of this deception
Is very strange to tell
For when I fool the people
I fear I fool myself as well!

I whistle a happy tune
And ev'ry single time
The happiness in the tune
Convinces me that I'm not afraid.

Make believe you're brave
And the trick will take you far.
You may be as brave
As you make believe you are

You may be as brave
As you make believe you are
